I discovered that ffmpeg can now into apng output.-plays 0is how you can get it to loop.
Anyone know if it can do frame transparency optimization stuff yet though? There seems to be very little documentation or info on this.

I need a way to optimize these either in the ffmpeg call itself or with imagemagick or something prior.

There was a GIMP plugin, but it looks broken and abandoned.
