>>
>>61735862
They're useful if your ISP throttles p2p traffic or is really anal about pirating
>>
>Are VPN's just a scam?
no, but you're probably thinking that they're some kind of magic anonymity subscription
>>
>>61737131
none what about you
>>
>>61737088
Fuck off NSA
>>
>>61735862

>>

Your server provider could still monitor your network activity.

>>

>trying to make it harder for your government to see if you're breaking the law
Why?
>>
>>61737708
pretty much this, you will get monitored no matter what so by setting it up by yourself you have the freedom to chose a server provider with decent reputation

I pay $50 a year to make Uncle Sam's job just that little bit harder. I don't care if they can get around VPNs if they really want to spy on me, but the fact that they would have to try that little bit harder is worth every cent.

Besides, I only use one because TPB is blocked in my country which (((they))) don't really care that much about.

I don't understand the VPN thing. Isn't the point of a VPN to securely access a remote private network? Consumers seem to only use them for the proxy functionality, so why use a VPN when you could simply use a proxy? I did a trial for NordVPN and it didn't even seem to offer any services besides a proxy anyway.

generally a vpn is easier to set up so you can get absolutely all traffic going through it, like with a vpn router
also port forwarding
