I would take a old smartphone and load "SleepRecorder" in it. It becomes a voice activated sound recorder. Battery lasts forever and you can forget about it on top of the fridge or under the bed and the sound recording capabilities in a phone are pretty nice.

You will always find out something you werent aware of. The most shocking to me is how people talked about me behind my back.

The battery would eventually die of course. It would at most run for a week or two.

But honestly, you can just mount those phones high up on your wall and use them as cameras as well as microphones. I have three in my apartment and no guest has noticed them until I pointed them out. People are pretty oblivious to these things.

Look at the size of the stream he "decrypts", it's 1KB.
The stream is also obviously not encrypted because there's a clear pattern in it. Encrypted data looks like random noise.

I usually left the device right in plain sight on the coffee table or behind the tv. It actually came handy for non nefarious reasons like trying to find out if someone else had a key to my place.

It's better than camera because less battery consumption and everyone usually pays more attention to sound than video, question is can you keep your mouth shut about how you're finding this information out, it may be illegal in your jurisdiction, people freak out a lot more when you're sound recording than when you are filming. So use it with caution
