He's a washed up, morbidly obese man who tries to stay relevant by having these retarded arguments that are similar to those found in the Soviet Union. Face it GNU/Freetards, Richard Stallman is a fat dickhead, and the only reason his name is still in the books is because of Linus's achievements.

stallman is not a philosophically pure person. he follows his ideals when convenient, and ignores them or slightly alters them when the conflict isn't worth it.

stallman is an egoist in denial, afraid of admitting that he just wants some fucking source code instead of a world where he has to rely on other people because he knows he wouldn't get it that way.

his system has some practical merits but his attempts at creating moral justifications are completely pathetic and nonsensical. how low do you have to be to have to make up bullshit "oughts" when you can just say "it would be fucking better"?

Linus writes beautiful code. He has published some side projects that he wrote all on his own and the code is just wonderful. He also lives in the real world while still maintaining his open source ideals and supporting himself through his work.

RMS is basically a homeless loser who hasn't made any real contributions in the last 20 years. He is still super butthurt that Linux beet HURD (but hey, HURD just got basic sound support in 2016!) and basically tries to claim Linux because Linus used GCC and the GNU coreutils. He survives on the charity of others and speaking engagements where he spouts his insane, paranoid, philosophy. Basically he won't be happy until all the programmers are homeless hackers like him and all the companies are shut down. How people are supposed to support themselves and their families in that scenario aren't things he has to deal with because he is basically a permanent grad student. He does make some good points about privacy, but for him, there is no middle ground. Anything that may reduce your privacy even the slightest bit (like movie recommendations on Netflix) is evil according to him, and must be destroyed. In a lot of ways he show classic signs of mental splitting, which is a classic symptom of mental illness. To top it off, when he does write code, he does so in the style of the awful GNU style guide which is a crime against humanity IMHO.

So, in a nutshell:
He's a bird-fucking, self-absorbed, power hungry, toe jam eating pedophile that thinks everything should be free and everyone should be forced to share, who looks like he hasn't showered in years so as to create a static shield around his body to protect from aliens. He also created an OS without a kernel because he's basically Steve Jobs gone communist. Oh, and he calls himself doctor though he holds no PhD.

Don't call it GNU/Linux. It gives Stallsham undue credit. He's done nothing but take credit for the work of others and has the audacity to call himself a Doctor when he couldn't even finish his Masters.

Alright guys, is it possible to make firefox use QT file dialog instead GTK

Tried to install ubuntu on my XPS 8300 using a usb stick. At the very end it says "Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda Executing `grub-install /dev/sda` failed. This is a fatal error". It gives me the option to choose another partition but none of them worked. Finally I choose "continue without bootloader", and when i reboot it gives me a black screen forever. What did I do wrong?

Without GNU linux couldn't work (at the time now we have busybox and stuff). They depend on each other.

Steve jobs was a maker of non-free software. He was saying he was glad that he was gone. He would have also been glad if steve had stopped. It doesn't matter how much code he wrote but instead how important the code he did write was.

I'm sick of Windows' shit, and also recently graduated college and am trying to get into some serious programming and development. My roommate got a Thinkpad Chromebook and runs ChromeOS alongside Lubuntu on the same kernel, he says he loves it. Doesn't miss Windows at all except for gaming.

I, however never bothered to switch BECAUSE of gaming. I've been thinking of trying to go Linux full-time for the reasons above, and just dual-boot Windoze for muh gaymen.

I'm not totally sure if I should just go all-in, but I'm a staunch utilitarian and if Linux is objectively better, I'll go for it. If that's the case, should I install Mint/Ubuntu as my primary OS on my (120GB) SSD, and just put Windows on my (1TB) HDD alongside all my game files?

I already keep all my games on the HDD anyway. But would I have to pre-partition the drive if I want to use some of it for /home or something, because of the filesystems?

The best DE is the DE which suits your needs. I suggest trying the most common. The all have flaws and features. KDE is bloated, but has a nice filepicker, GNOME is going downhill since they started removing features, trying to be lightweight. I personaly like Xfce, but here you need a compositor like compton so you don't have screen tearing. Unity died and Ubuntu ships GNOME now. Mate and Cinnamon are comfy for beinners since they are a bit windowsesque.

I have Arch running on Pi Zero W and I want to add a swap file, because at any given time the memory usage exceeds 40-50%. I've never messed with swap though, so I have some questions:

Is 512MiB enough? I'd assume so, but you know...

Should I use zram/zswap? Or will that just eat up CPU and be counterproductive?

How can I set it up for the best results?

You can replace DEs on any distro, but stuff can break when you don't know what you're doing. Switching Window Managers, like, installing i3 or openbox on Ubuntu works flawlessly. In fact you can install 1000 WMs and just switch between them before you login.

Lightweight: Xfce, OpenBox, i3, but if you want something that just works without any tinkering, use KDE. "bloat" can be one man's useless crap and other man's usefull feature.

Just try some DEs and WMs in a VM and decide what you like. Pretty much any distro is lightweight, compared to Windows.

A default file is already there, which you can copy-paste.

There's f.lux for loonix, but you should try redshift instead since it's free software and does pretty much the same job. There's also reshift-gtk if you need a gui in your panel but it isn't needed.
Run "man redshift" to get the flags you need, brightness can be done with -g (gamma) and the transition speed can be turned on and off (theres no option for speed but it doesn't make sense anyway).
I don't even use a config, I just have

redshift -g 0.9 -m randr -r -t 6500:5300

in my xinitrc

Looks like if you CPU doesn't support it (as stateted in the MSR) or if you have a buggy family it is disabled. So I think if it is disabled you don't want to enable it.

I don't know about you system but on debian using startx then ~/.xinitrc does replace the default action. You can use ~/.xsessionrc instead though which only gets sourced by xsession, rather than executed by startx.

Anyone want to help make a new terminal based online discussion format centered around the GNU/Linux filesystem?

Thinking of making a sort of "Request based shell" (RBS) client.
Basically instead of connecting and staying connected (or timing out) like with IRC or BBS systems, this one would look and act exactly like you had a shell on the machine (so it would also retain a history of your commands) except instead of keeping a persistent connection open it only opens a connection when you actually enter a command, the server returns the output and then the connection is closed. Just like the client-server model for websites. This way you can idle all day and there is no major issue with having too many users connected at once.

It could be used for discussions by simply having a few scripts, for things such as generating append-only files as threads and formatting posts, or a script to output information like a thread watcher, etc..
Users could manage the files just like normal, upload files, modify permissions, create groups, symlinks, etc..

I would imagine it would feel more like posting on 4chan (before auto-updaters), or like checking your email, rather than using IRC. So I think the client-server model would be appropriate.
Also IRC doesn't let you build a directory structure with file uploads and the full set of permissions on said directories and files

I also think it could feel a lot like using a BBS, but let's face it BBS's are never going to make a comeback because of the huge issue with having tons of people connected at once. This is like the next best thing.

Someone else can probably tell you better than me, but they are paid developers who get money from the government which raises some questions. But maybe a bigger reason is every time I read about projects they're involved in they always come across as complete assholes who think their way is the only way and want to strong arm everyone else.

I currently have the latest update available for stable Arch, and I enabled both the global dark theme and the OSX Arc Shadow, but all of the extensions atop of the screen keep a semi-white theme, like in pic-related –some of the elements are readable and some absolutely not.
Does anyone know if it can be fixed and if yes, how?
