This is a reminder that DiPolarDisorder is a shitposting troll who intentionally spreads factually incorrect misinformation such as "hrtf graphs have an inverse relationship with how a headphone should measure," refuses to back up his claims with credible evidence because he cannot and tells anyone who proves him wrong they "can't read." His HRTF claim has been thoroughly debunked by:

Same DAC chip as the Fulla2, so probably OK on that front. Amp any good, no idea. I don't like the 384KHz/DSD buzzword focus. DSD and PCM on the same device is a bad flag already; if it's a small device, even more so.

would these be worth getting? I've heard a lot about them. I'm no audiophile but I do appreciate good sounding headphones. These are practically mass produced chink-tier but I want some new headphones. I currently use Audio-Technica ATH M30 headphones. I like them but the chord is too fucking long for comfortable use. I always have to wrap it around my desk or something. The Monoprice headphones have a detachable cable which is nice since I can make it different lengths with different cables.

Yay or nay?
>>

Why does your budget suck? If you want to upgrade, try saving till you have enough for something like the HD579.
Make it count, else you'll be using chinks forever.

Regarding earphone / IEM burn in.

Would i get the same supposed benefits of burning in my new IEMs by just using them regularly and patiently waiting for them to burn in over a longer period of time?

The mechanical effects of both approaches are identical as far as i understand, except that deliberate burning in does its thing in one 24/72/100 hour session as opposed to accumulating that same use time over weeks / months of frequent but intermittent use.

Does playing pink noise have a different mechanical effect than playing regular music?

Any clarification would be appreciated.

I have an IEM that uses a armature driver behind a dynamic one and it's bass(while maybe a tad too strong) is of great quality. Really nice headphone.
What kind of IEM set up do you guys think offers the best sound?
1. Hybrid BA+Dynamic
2. Straight armature
3. Straight dynamic
I'm thinking about picking up another hybrid but with at least two armature drivers and less emphasized bass. Armature can do bass but it's not considered to be as good as a dynamic driver right?
There are so many awesome and interesting IEMs I just want to hear them all

ok what is the consensus on this? is there a perceptible difference between 320kbps .mp3 and lossless? is the "320kbps .mp3 is more than enough" argument just "the human eye can't see more than 24/30/60 fps"-tier nonsense?

also i remember that there was a scientific study where they played a recording of some exotic musical instrument that produced tones above 20 kHz and they measured increased brain activity in the test subjects that listened to the recording that including the supposedly inaudible higher frequencies.

No defects on my end yet at all. The audio quality is much better than I expected, previously had the M50x's and never owned a bluetooth headphone before buying the 1000x, it's the best 200 I have spent.
>>
>>61734575
From reading Hydrogenaudio forums it seems that 320kbps MP3 will be transparent in MOST cases but can produce audible artifacts in very rare, specific cases.
There needs to be more testing done of Opus, which seems like by far the best lossy codec.
>>
>>61734575
use opus
>>
>>61734575
I think it's only relevant for critical listening in home environments and with material you're already familiar with. For portable/not at home situations it's kind of pointless. It's smart to keep full sized lossless music files for archive purposes however, this way you can just convert to lossy files when needed and still have a nice, lossless copy as your baseline
>>
>>61734575
>>61734632
This being said, I use 192 kbps Opus. There have been multiple studies of whether average people can perceive mp3 artifacts and they've all concluded average people can't perceive 192 kbps mp3 artifacts. Opus is demonstrably superior to mp3 and actually reproduces 20 Hz to 20 kHz unlike other lossy codecs, so I use 192 kbps VBR Opus, have done blind testing with it and it's transparent to me.
>>
Best earbuds for 200€ or less? Comfort is a must.
>>
>>61734690
How low can you go before you start hearing a difference? I have a few FLAC files that I would like to convert to Opus. Personally I've found that even 80kb is still pretty decent for listening. It really equipment dependent though.

>>
What do you guys think of InnerFidelity's wall of fame?
Lets take a look at the over ear closed back selections because it's much more competitive than open back.
>Mr. S Aeon
Don't think many people will disagree it's the top closed back.
>Shure SRH1540
Don't hear much about these but they look gorgeous. He says they're "extraodinarily good at low listening levels, they ..fall apart a bit at higher volumes".
>Oppo PM-3
Suggested for their build quality, style, comfort, and great sound although lacking "that last bit of refinement and air".
>Meze 99 Classics
I disagree with him here, these things are over priced and over shilled garbage. He says sound is quite good but bass is a bit loose and that they're "far more fun than competitors".
>Vmoda m100 -> ATH-m50x -> CAL > HD202

I really disagree with his budget options(m50x is just out done at this point especially with the CB-1 around). Meze is over priced trash, Oppo is good, aeons are good. Shure SRH1540 look questionable at $500.
Would you feel comfortable referring a friend to his lists for help picking a headphone?
>>
>>61735110
You have to take Tyll with a grain of salt. He absolutely hates anything sibilant or overly bright. And while those are problems that should be criticized, he usually just shits on the headphones once he hears spicy treble, regardless if everything else is amazing.

He still has good, detailed reviews, although he's definitely a shill for Mr. S and Massdrop at this point. I'll use him as a good reference, but knowing his caveats helps when comparing.
>>
>>61735195
>He absolutely hates anything sibilant or overly bright

>>
>>61733000
VERY uncomfortable and made completely of plastic, but the sound is pretty good for like $18 after shipping. The treble is definitely recessed and bass is emphasized. And don't forget that they are VERY uncomfortable.
>>
>>61735110
I've heard pretty bad things about the Aeon and Shure headphone, but very very good things about the pm3 and meze 99's. I think the m100's are maybe okay for ~$150 if you really want an extremely bass heavy headphone. I've also heard good things about the cal, but I haven't heard them personally.

You know many people here say that DT990 rape ears but mine are totally fine and I'm really sensitive to treble. Yes they have more highs than usual but they are not sibilant for me at all. I've tried M20x and they were sibilant. There was awful treble which cut my ears. But DT990 are ok. Maybe there is an anti-beyerdynamic campaign going on because I can't find any other answer to all these hate posts.

Tyll's open picks are even worse IMO. Both electrostats have serious issues (distortion on the sonoma, bad FR on the stax). The LCD-4 is overpriced to hell and not much different than the LCD-2, and the Ether flow has a really rough FR. As someone who owns the Elear, it's pretty bad without EQ with its missing upper mids, and the last two, the HD600 I'm not gonna comment on, but the 400S is markedly worse than the 400i.

I bought them and the build quality is amazing. I'm not sure about the bass distortion on higher volumes though, maybe it gets a bit muddy if the music is all bass notes on a piano for example? That might be an issue with any dynamic driver though.

They're $500 but it comes with a hardcase, 2 cables and replacement earpads so don't expect "$500" headphones.

They are very bright but my two normie co-workers both had the same reaction to them. They both used the word clear. "wow they're really clear".
But I think some of the hate for them comes from people not driving them correctly. When I hook mine up to my portable amp(can't do 25mw@250ohm) they reach an okay volume but the treble goes through the roof and they sound fucking horrible. The most popular amp on amazon's dt990 page is the fiio e10k which I believe can't do 25mw@250ohm(suggested power for them) so I imagine all of those people's 990s sound horrible.

>CEntrance DACPort HD/Slim
I was thinking about getting one but due to customs I decided not to. Hoverer looking around I found out that CEntrance is not a random company, they had partnership with lots of other brands, including headphone manufacturers like Beyer, outsourcing manufacturing, construction and some programming for them. I didn't find measurments on DACport but the previous one had a decent measurements https://www.stereophile.com/content/centrance-dacport-usb-headphone-amplifier-measurements. Only negative thing I found about slim is that some reported that on very sensitive IEM approaching high volumes distortions started to pop out a bit. They jam in DSD because they worked with it before to intrigue audiophiles, but I don't think they did this at the cost of performance. You also get a tiny form factor with a goo physical control unlike Fulla's 2 knob.

usb transmits the signal using electricity, optical does it with light. Usb can pick up electrical interference, although I believe it's rare, and optical cannot. I don't believe there are any real differences, so optical might be better since you'll have another usb port.

Lossless doesn't degrade, mp3 does so artifacts shows up when u download them from somewhere for billionth time. There are some really good mp3 with 320kps, but I could hear difference between them and flac, itunes releases and flacs, but that might be as well due to mp3 losing quality over time. Difference was very small tho. Also when producers make FLAC releases they are sometimes a part of remastered or simply better mastered version for more critical listening, thats what sometimes makes a giant difference. In short, flac matters due to not degrading over time, in reality difference is small and a lot dependent of masteting.
>>
>>61737679
I know this is off topic but yes I am extremely happy that I finally got myself a nice motherboard. I picked up the maximus viii hero for $160 and it came with a free p400 from phanteks.
I've been building my own PC every once in a while since pentium 4 but I always bought the cheapest board with the chipset I needed and this is the first time I got a nice one.
The BIOS is fucking awesome. The power mangement actually has some logic behind it so OCing the CPU is trivial because it just does what it has to keep the thing stable. Like you said optical but also tons of pwm headers, great memory oc, etc.
I don't think I'll ever skimp on a motherboard again.
To make this post kind of on topic I'll mention the onboard audio. It is shockingly good. It has a higher output power than my dragonfly 1.0. Totally sufficient for most people.

I guess they're all often recommended, it just depends on what you want them to sound like. The zircons have the most bass, the kz's are usually v-shaped, and I'm not 100% sure about the pistons, but I'm pretty sure they're v-shaped as well. They're all good choices in the end if you're not sensitive to treble.

THD measurements are not a reliable indicator of audibility:
http://gedlee.azurewebsites.net/Papers/Distortion_AES_I.pdf
http://gedlee.azurewebsites.net/Papers/Distortion_AES_II.pdf
> In our next paper we will show that .01% THD of one type of nonlinear system can be perceived as unacceptable while 10% THD in another example is perceived as inaudible. Even one of these simple examples is sufficient to invalidate THD as a viable metric for discussion of the perception of distortion. Furthermore, 1% THD is not at all the same as 1% IM, but we will show that neither correlates with subjective perception.
>These results supported the skepticism that THD and IMD metrics were poor predictor of subjective perception of sound quality ratings.

Every year or two someone tries to say thd is irrelevant in the audio community and writes one of these meme papers. Guess what? Manufacturers still use thd as a measurement of fidelity because past 1% it's usually audible, especially if it's majority odd order.

If this paper was remotely relevant, why does every single important audio equipment manufacturer have some sort of harmonic distortion measurement with their gear? I don't know, probably has something to do with being a relevant indicator of audio fidelity and that these one off shit tier studies pretty much lead nowhere and are basically used as ego stroking for old farts trying to rewrite the book on audio fidelity unsuccessfully. Harmonic overtones are audible, get over it.

I own the zircons and some kz things. The zircons are extremely bassy and have slightly emphasized treble from what I remember. The kz ed12's are awful, zs3's are too uncomfortable for me to really listen to, and the edr4's have a lot of bass, and emphasized treble that hurts sometimes.

Kz zs3 are fairly melanin enriched.
I'd invest in the zs5 though just because they still have large amounts of melanin but better mids and highs.
>>
>>61738380
IEM with industrial-grade (or gunrange) earmuffs are your best bet, no closed headphone is going to match that ever.
>>
>>61738939
Thanks for the feedback, Zircon's might have to be one to avoid if they're really bassy. I do enjoy some bass, it's why I preferred the Piston 2's to the 3's but an overemphasis on it probably wouldn't suit me
>>
>>61736306
it's mitigated by doing that, but the HF5s are still the worst ones I have for it.

The bass distorts at really low volume, I think I may have a defective pair desu.
