THoughts about Neocities?

>Neocities is a social network of 139,700 web sites that are bringing back the lost individual creativity of the web. We offer free static web hosting and tools that allow you to create your own web site.

Is this basically just updated Geocities? Even that wasn't very popular when it came out a decade ago.

a decade?? no.

Sorry it was 23 years ago
>GeoCities is a web hosting service, currently available only in Japan. It was founded in November 1994

when it was acquired by Yahoo in 1999 it was the #3 most visited site on the web

Yeah and infoseek was the worlds most popular search engine. I don't get the point. My thoughts on neocities is that its trying to be geocities again even though nobody has used it in a decade.

So is this just retro/neo-geocities without any purpose, or can it be actually used to bring back a tiny bit of the pre-2010's decentralized web?

Neocities is basically, in many ways, a blogging platform that simply doesn't hold your hand when constructing the webpage.

It's feasible, but the expectation is that you aren't going to make elaborate, complicated websites with it; thus, "static"

And if you want decentralized web, just use i2p. Well, i2p is actually a distributed network; tor would be distributed, but I think you get what I mean
