It seems you don't quite get tiling window managers.
They're designed to be used with your keyboard only. Since everything is done with keys there is no need for a panel. That's why panels don't work nicely with tiling window managers like FrankenWM.
If you want to have a panel to control your windows, you should use a more conventional window manager like Openbox.
