Keep them hidden in a secret cubby behind my kitchen units. I rip out the networking components and use them to store all of my ceepee. I obtain the ceepee by going to a few shops and areas with free wifi (macdos, starbucks, tourist informations buildings) and using my own laptop with tails to grab the vids or livestreams.

Typically either sell or use. If they're not worth selling as a full system, I sell the parts I can, repurpose the parts that don't sell, and recycle or hoard whatever's left.

My old machines go into storage. You just never know when you'll need to plug in a 5V PCI 1.1 card for some reason.
My really old machines go into the scrap box for eventual disposal or random repurposing.

My old laptops and HDs are just piled up in a stack in my closet, along with all the other computer parts I've salvaged throughout the years. I also use my Macbook with a smashed LCD as a seedbox because it is the newest and fastest of the inoperable ones.

Know this guy who has a 5960x and 2x980 ti sitting in closet. His new pc is 6950x and 2x 1080 ti. Has some other desktop sitting in garage im going to assume is a 3930k with two 780 ti

Old but still useful (e.g. P4 on) get shelved for when I want a spare Linux box or something similar.

Older than P4 are either given away or recycled. I actually have two old gaming systems I have to chuck out (one runs 98SE and the other WinXP) since I haven't turned them on in years.

Most of them just deprecate and it never hurts to have a bit more money. If I need any parts I buy them again (I never do because there are newer tech)
Laptop: I usually use them until they break and they break too frequently for me to have any old laptops.

I kept an old laptop for watching porn, and when my real laptop's hard drive died I just pulled out my the porntop's hard drive and replaced the broken one. Too bad the porntob is DDR2, if it was DDR3 I would pull out its RAM and add it to my real laptop.

If they aren't really good enough to sell, I ususally just have them run BOINC at 100% until it dies. Electricity is fairly cheap here, and i know at least it's doing more good than some pre-teen playing minecraft and spilling mt dew on it. Plus having a few monitors showing the science work they're doing is kinda neat. I think at one point i had about 5 core 2 duo dells running constantly, most of them died after a few months except on latitude lasted 2 years at full load. Impressed me a bit.

I found a community connection board on campus back in 07 with requests for basic iT support for low income families, all of my used systems have been going to random poor kids and disabled folks ever since. Now I will randomly get a call for assistance setting up a pc for a wheelchair guy or a church group, it's become a kind of side hobbie, I whole heartedly recommend it if you live in a impoverished area like I do.

I normally end up using mine until death/obsolescence. My main PC is an Alienware MX17R4 which although being a 2012 PC should keep me going a few more years yet. My oldest still in service is an old PowerMac G5. If it is truly dead then i gut it for parts then recycle the junk. I'm never in short supply of parts as I work in IT and can have as many old parts and equipment as I like. Old PCs that are somewhat usable end up becoming servers, render farms, VPNs and DVRs.

I give them to my friends. I gave my Ivy Bridge desktop to a best friend who had never been able to own a computer that wasn't a POS hand me down in their life before.

They moved from an i5-2550m with iGPU 4GB of DDR3 1066 ram to an i7 3770, 16GB DDR3 1600, 256GB SSD + 2TB HDD, and a GTX 1060 6GB. (I bought the GPU new because I'm not a gamer and only ever owned a GT 640, the SSD is new but the HDD is old so I told them not to put anything they can't reacquire easily on it)

I use to hand them out to people in need, I'm always the "computer guy" of the family, but it also spread to family's employee's and there friends, and whenever I would give them like an old core 2 duo or something, I would always be on call for tech support and it started just getting to become too much. So now i just recycle them. There is a free geek about 2 hour drive away, I've always thought about donating time there, but i just can't be bothered to drive that long.

Keep the parts for when/if I ever need them. Still got my very first computer that I built, Celeron 1.4Ghz/512mb (or maybe 1GB, I forget which),20GB hdd,3DFX Voodoo 3 2000 pci. Good times man. I wish I still had my old IBM 80286 ps2, IBM aptiva (1997), and my dell L800cxe (2001) prebuilts. But I gave them away long ago, before I knew that they'd, especially the 80286 would be worth something
