What is the proper way to escape a / character using sed?

for example:
sed 's/find/replace/'

will replace all instances of 'find' with 'replace'

but what if I am replacing hyperlinks that use the '/' character?

how to I escape the / character so sed recognizes it as part of the term to search for or replace?

pc ----modem----online_game_server
you can setup another client in your local network to test pc to modem connection by using iperf, to test the modem is ok under high loading.

modem to game_server have too many nodes that you cant test, for example ISP or dumb game company, but you can try traceroute and check the high latency node, maybe ask support from ISP

>>
>>61705722
ISP is probably cutting you off. Did you download anything big the night or two before, like a game from Steam? Anytime I download a game or binge out on watching youtube or CrunchyRoll, I get to experience random dropouts the next day or two. And it's usually at the same time during the day between morning and afternoon. Doesn't matter if I have the cheapest internet package or the most expensive, whether anyone else is online or not. If I had a big download the night before, this whole section of the day the next day is basically a flip of a coin every 5 to 10 minutes to see if my connection drops. Tried swapping out modems/routers/ips, nothing works. It can't be the line being bad because it's only during this time period of the day. After the time period passes, the internet is back to normal. ISP doesn't want you taking up too much bandwidth and probably does it to help clear up space for other users, or it's afraid that you're pirating stuff seeing as how big the downloads are. I don't pirate, but I like to switch out games often so I have to uninstall and redownload them thanks to hard drive space. They will never tell you they do this though, they'll probably say you need to switch out the modem or fix the line. You'll have to pester your ISP to send a technician out to actually check if the line works or needs to be rerun to your room, and they might want to charge you for it but you'll have to stand your ground.

>>
>>61706820
Sorry anon you are shit out of luck on that one. Been on that quest before myself. Good news is you can get a usb wifi adapter for only 5 bucks.
>>
>>61706820
> You can achieve this natively on some versions of Android (for me it works on KitKat 4.4.4). All you have to do is connect the phone to wi-fi as usual and then connect the USB cable and do a USB tether. Your computer should detect a new hardware - a "USB ethernet" or similar, you may need to install drivers for that, ymmv. Then it behaves just like any other network card. This works for all common operating system, including Windows (where the drivers part may apply).

> Just to be sure, you can disable mobile data on the phone for the time being but the phone should be smart enough to route traffic via wifi automatically when it is available.

See if theres anyway to take the front panel off. Usually have to take both side panels off before it will let you take off the front. The power button on the front panel should be pressing another button underneath it which should be accessable after removing the front panel. It may not be the power button. So I'm trying to color shift some icon theme for KDE (the one included with Manjaro specifically). I did it with Inkscape, not a lot of trouble, but then I noticed that shit didn't work at all.

After some research I found out that basically KDE won't take in consideration filters applied to .svg files.

My question is, is there a way to somehow convert these files so they apply the same changes without filters, or at least to have KDE recognize them? Or am I fucked here?

Nah man, I'm not dropping an entire desktop because my icons are not working

Then again, I imagine how much of a pain in the ass would be to manually change the colors for every single icon and it drives me nuts. I wish that KDE had an option to "colorize" -only- folders, instead of every fucking icon inside the file manager.
>>
>>61709582
you might need to regenerate the non-scalable versions of the icons
for efficiency, often icon sets come with png's in common sizes (like 16x16, 48x48, etc), alongside scalable svg versions, for cases where an arbitrary or huge size is needed
rendering an svg for every instance of small icons is a waste of resources, and generally isn't worth the disk space savings

how do i get rid of this bullshit?
i'm on a pretty fresh windows 10 N 2016 LTSB and my mobo is the msi x370 gaming pro carbon
when i uninstall any realtek audio drivers, i get fine audio and no crashes etc, but i'm probably missing out on some additional features and enhancements provided by the proper realtek driver and not some microsoft-supplied basic audio driver
for example, when configuring my speakers, the default windows driver won't recognize that the mobo's integrated audio chip supports 7.1 speaker configuration
if i install the realtek drivers, 7.1 becomes available in the windows' native "Playback Devices" dialog, so the driver is at least doing something
the thing is, i keep getting these annoying pop ups as the hd audio manager crashes
i get this each time i boot windows 10, about 3-4 minutes after i log in to my offline windows account
the failing executable itself is likely this one:
C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA\RtkNGUI64.exe
i've installed chipset drivers downloaded from msi's website - no difference
i've tried installing the windows media feature pack (with some shitty video codecs and stuff like windows media player etc.), as the N windows versions come without said media features, but still - no difference
i've tried installing the audio drivers from realtek's website - no difference
i've tried installing the audio drivers from msi's mobo service website - again no difference
i have no idea what else's left to try
i'm running pretty old mobo bios, in fact it's the one it came installed with - could this make a difference in regards to the realtek driver crashing in windows?

Quick question regarding DHCP servers.

I have cable internet and have set up my router to the automatic DHCP recommended for cable networks. Now there is also an option to use the router as a DHCP server as well, which I have enabled. Is the router DHCP necessary as well if I have the automatic DHCP selected as the main means of connection to the ISP? I find that when I have the router DHCP turned on, I get frequent disconnections from video games, but when it is turned off my packet loss goes down drastically. Unfortunately, when I turn the router DHCP server off I cannot connect to the router wirelessly anymore, although my wired desktop still connects just fine.

What I'm asking is, should I have the router DHCP server turned on, and what does it do exactly in comparison to the main connection to the ISP DHCP cable network?

They are two unrelated things. You're confusing what happens on your local network with what goes on outside it. If your local DHCP is giving you problems, that's a problem with your router. Try a firmware update, or get a new router. Alternately, if you very rarely add new devices to your network, you could assign everything a static IP manually.

Im in school currently, learning Java. Progressing with class pretty well, often finish projects ahead of schedule and help other students. However, I still feel like classes are going pretty slow. New semester starts in 3 weeks, so maybe things will pick up, but for now...

My friends want to make something like...

But I have never left the confines of an IDE, and I have no idea how to get my code "out there" to try doing real projects.

I dont understand half the shit this board is talking about, so I feel like im light years behind.

Please wise anons of /g/, guide me in any way that you can. Can I learn python and java side by side? Should I be worried that after a semester of school, im still in the IDE, or should this come slower? Should I really understand the difference between protocol and object oriented? I know this is something probably not allowed on this board, but whenever I google it I get a bunch of other questions not related to mine. Sometimes when I boot my PC my water cooler either wont run or runs at low power making my CPU average about 50C-60C while when it is working it averages 30C while idling. Pic related is what my cpu temp was before and after I put my computer into sleep mode then turned it back on. The water cooler I have is an H55 Corsair Hydro and I've only been using it for about 3 months. Again if this isn't allowed feel free to report me and sorry for wasting your time.

to make a long story short, someone I know may have lied about having a college degree (or being close to getting one) in order to get a well paying engineering job. Normally I wouldn't mind, but this kid has ass burgers issues and his ego has exploded now that he got this job. He was kicked out of school his sophomore year for having a <1.5 GPA and never went back. This job very clearly listed a bachelor's degree as a requirement. We think he lied; should we/is there any way to expose him?

How do I allow a webserver access to a single directory in a home folder, but not to anything else (not even listing contents)?

Currently /home is 751, /home/* is 750 and everything below that has the default 755 permissions.

The folder I want to share is located somewhere like /home/user/x/y/website.

Do I have to chmod -R 751 the home folder and then give read permissions for the website to the web server user? Is that risky? Is there an easier way?

I think you're trying to run ls and save the output of it with that directory as the target. Just skip the >> part and add it to the end instead, like so:

 ls /directory/you/want >> /location/to/save/to/file.txt

Also, I only added cat to illustrate it, you can skip that part. Same with most of the ls flags, it's just what I use. ls -1 is probably fine if all you need is a list of filenames. Also also, you can save it as a .sh file or add it to your ~/.bashrc file if you don't want to paste in the whole thing every time.

Probably not much performance wise, I just can't stand the editor and the workflow. YMMV.

Also, it depends a lot on the kind of game you want to make. Unity does both 2D and 3D and is famous for being the game equivalent of Python, meaning that you can practically download an RTS/RPG/FPS/visual novel/puzzle game/whatever sample from the marketplace and just drag and drop your own shit in, customizing elements in the process if needed.

I'd personally try it out and use it for prototyping. Come up with a game, implement its mechanics, rules, graphics, assets, etc. in Unity, then either stick with it, use them in a more specialized engine (Cocos2D, Pygame, Unreal, SDL), or write your own engine from the ground up (probably only really viable if you make a 2D game, and have a lot of free time).

I've got this gig on youtube, audio only, and these appear to be the best options, an opus coded file (webm) and an aac (mp4).

1. Is the opus file better than the aac file? The opus/webm file is around 50MB while the aac/mp4 is around 54MB and I thought that bigger is better but I just don't know shit about opus and it shows more info on spek.
2. I want to listen it on my phone so my options are ogg, flac or mp3. How should I determine the best bit rate for my new file without wasting space nor loosing quality? I only know that FLAC should be used for lossless only or it would be a waste of space.

>the other one is on the ssd somewhere for those games that benifit from ssd loading

That was my question really. I just want to know where to put the library folder for those games that do benefit from the SSD.
Like do I put it under /Steam, /var/games/Steam or something?
>>
>>61717329
Not sure if it the same on linux but if you want to create a second steam library folder it has to be on a different drive, so not really. Unless you want to put it in /usr/local/games/steam or something.

Or you could try going to steamapps/common and just moving the game folder to somewhere on the ssd and then create a symlink to there. No messing around with steam libraries.
>>
>>61717444
>if you want to create a second steam library folder it has to be on a different drive
/Steam would be on the other drive, but I don't think one should have folders directly below / that aren't owned by root.

~/.local/steam is completely optional.
