My last earphone purchases were pistons and KZ-ED9s, and ROCK-something (aliX) which have done my very well over the last few years.

Let my dad take a pair, so now I'd like to get another cheap good-tier chink earphone for listening to music on the way to work and back.

My spinfit tips fit fine but then after like 20 seconds come out a slight bit, not enough to fall out easily but enough to have a noticeable negative impact.

At this point do people typically get a smaller tip to fit further in the ear or something bigger to fit further out but be a bit tighter?

I'd just try the other size tips that came with my iems but can't find them so need to buy new ones.

bigger, smaller won't fit deeper since the earphone won't be able to go deeper, and even if it had a really long nozzle, it still wouldn't seal at all since it's too small.

I looked at some pics online, and it looks like they are glued on. Basically you'll have to DIY molest your pair if you want to replace the earpads

or just buy a new pair. It's a really silly design when they gave it detachable cables, so all I see is blatant planned obsolescence. Dunno why Philipis would do that since people would sooner just upgrade instead of buy a 2nd SHP9500.
>>
>>61700021
No problem here either. Pads are still clean after around a year later. Not sweating probably helped.

Anybody here try the HD 600 for awhile and then use the HD 650? What were your immediate thoughts when using them or A/B testing? I'm not able to try them myself, but I'm getting a little sick of neutral cans but still want that signature. The 650s sound perfect, but I want to know exactly how far off neutral they are. I know they allegedly sound mostly the same, I just want something that's a little more fun but still accurate.

avoid AKG and Hifiman if you care about the build of the headphone at all

this isn't just about the cheap construction on the exterior of the headphones (the AKGs are shit btw). There are reports of shitty soldering inside the AKG K7XX for example.

They're all made in china, but that gives them no excuse to skimp on QC. Fiio and Shure for example have consistent quality despite being chink made.

honestly, AKG should be avoided at all costs now. Their HQ isn't even in Austria anymore.

This is a reminder that DiPolarDisorder is a shitposting troll who intentionally spreads factually incorrect misinformation such as "hrtf graphs have an inverse relationship with how a headphone should measure" and refuses to back up his claims with credible evidence because he cannot. His HRTF claim has been thoroughly debunked by:

Am I reading the measurements right? How the fuck is that distortion even possible? The no-frills but high quality build of the 1840 looks so nice, it's a pity the sound itself is apparently dogshit off measurements.

Distort. Sorry, phoneposting.
>>
>>61702512
Even the 3 big meme phones have massive harmonic distortion in the bass region. This is a result of having a very small driver attempt to make large excursions for bass.

Another reason why most loudspeakers perform and sound much better than headphones. Thd is higher for the mids and highs, but most well designed speakers never go past 2%, most hover around 1% for the entire frequency band.

Reminder that speakers don't offer the same amount of detail retrieval, the higher frequency is the more it will loose energy traveling through air, and you will have to deal speakers interacting your room, and no DSP and even bass traps won't completely solve it if you have anything but large space.

Muh soundstage and airy treble with a decent bass (K712). Cheap feeling.
>DT880
Cleanest bass of all 3 dynamic headphones, middle finger of treble. Non detachable wire, not as horrid if you can visit someone to sort that shit out for you but quite disappointing anyway.
>HD600
MUH MIDS, sexselent female vocals, no soundstage and weak sub bass, also least rapey treble, really good for prolonged listening sessions. SNAPPETY SNAP :D, but in reality unless you purposely try bending the headband backwards it won't snap. Real issue is that pads are not as roomy as HD5xx offerings.
>He400i
Listened them the least. Really good bass and subbass, both in quality and quantity. Clean mids but biggest dip in lower treble/upper midrange of all mentioned headphones, female vocals are a bit kill. Also due to the mentioned drop spike in treble stands out, nowhere as bad as DT880 tho. Pads are ok but were the least comfortable out of all for me, not as bad as He400 tho, can be replaced but will influence the sound.

i live far in the suburbs and there is no such thing as a high-end headphone shop (at most it's just the ATH headphones in a music store).

what's the big deal about planar headphones? I feel like it's 90% audiophile bullshit again and I won't actually hear a difference. I'm asking because I think I will make be making a mistake if I join the drop for the HE4XX tomorrow. That $169 price tag is more worrying than enticing.

A lot of the time they have very linear bass extension like LCD2 or M1060.

Much more linear bass extension. It's the one type of headphone that overall avoids the distortion problems dynamic driver headphones have with bass and mid-bass.

There is a well established pattern with properly-sealed measurements of the HD600: 30 Hz response even with 1 kHz, 20 Hz response -2.5 dB relative to 1 kHz. Any measurements showing less bass than this, as yours does, were not properly sealed and are thus invalid measurements. You will now, as always, come up with a rhetorically ineffective reply such as "this excuse again?"

Yes, as you can see, the HD600 has a couple more dB of bass response and 2.5 to 5 dB less treble response, hence they are considerably less "clinical" sounding. The SRH-940 are bright headphones whereas the HD600 are balanced sounding.

What's your portable setup like, anons?
>>
>>61703339
Go ahead. The 600s are pretty light on bass. The 650s are the darker of the two headphones.
>>
>>61703314
>Bass is pretty light
Incorrect. Midbass is slightly boosted and 30 Hz response, which is lower than the fundamentals of most music, is neutral. This means that the bass, overall, is slightly louder than the midrange. This is objectively the truth as demonstrated by >>61702932
>the treble is sort of recessed
Technically, in relation to the bright-sounding diffuse field curve, yes, but the treble will be perceived as neutral. Etymotic's ER-4B, the most accurate diffuse field earphones available, were met with large-scale criticism for being too bright. The ER-4S was the response to this criticism and most users felt its treble sounded perfect. The HD600's treble response is similar to that of the ER-4S.
>>61703328
Incorrect, as verified through objective measurement. Its bass and midbass will be perceived as very slightly louder than its midrange or treble.

Personal preference regarding bass response varies widely and you have a right to your own opinion. However, HD600 bass is objectively slightly boosted in relation to the diffuse field curve. I have heard but do not own HD600. If I did own it I would actually EQ the majority of its bass response down a tad. My subjective preference is for ruler-flat bass response.

So I just bought a pair of HE560's, however I do not have any amplification. I come to you today looking for advice for a DAC and amp for desktop use, and then a separate DAC/amp combo for portable use. I am currently on vacation, and won't be at my desktop for a few weeks... I can't wait that long to try these out ;)
Budget: $250 max for the desktop pair (I was thinking a Schiit stack, unless you guys have any recommendations), and $150 max (preferably something closer to $100) for the portable one.
Source: iPhone for the portable, MacBook and PC for the desktop.

The HD 600 is smoother and more liquid sounding, but it's got that veil, and the long hump in the bass/lower-mids response does give it a thick coloration compared to the HE4XX. Treble is a bit more strident in the HE4XX, and the presence area is a little more withdrawn, but bass extension and midrange neutrality are better than the HD 600. Bottom line: both are very good cans. But that price difference! People should be yelling, "Take my money!"

Looks like InnerFidelity is out of the list with rting. I wonder which site is next.

I love my MDR V6 but the cable is way too long and the telephone style makes it stupid. Has anybody had success modifying the cable to make it shorter and straight?
>>
Do I need an AMP/DAC whatever to go with HD6xx or would it sound the same if I just chuck it in my motherboard audio jack?
>>
redpill me on aftermarket ear tips, what are the best types?
>>
>>61705931
JVC Spiraldots, Spinfits and Comply tips are pretty popular for aftermarket shit. For shit like Monks, Yurbud tips look pretty neat and Comply's earbud cover seems interesting.

This thing has a confirmed resonance around 6khz in the cup.

With the 800s' they increased harmonic distortion in the low frequencies in order to create at least some bass presence. Moreover they generated a 6khz resonance coming from the driver to destructively interfere with the cup resonance, rather than tackling the real problem.

If sennheiser is meme'ing with the 800s', what must we think of the 800's which it is supposed to improve on?

How do you like the amp section on this one?
>>
What's the benefit of having two amps for a pair of speakers? Why do audiophile speaker setups have two boxes that look like amps?
>>
>>61706247
>Why do audiophile speaker setups have two boxes that look like amps?
Amp and preamp I believe. Might also be monoblocks, one entire amp for each speaker
>>
>>61705807
>The HD 600 is smoother and more liquid sounding, but it's got that veil
>veil
No it doesn't. Tyll adjusted the headphones to his ears wrong. You have to align it to your ears properly and no more veil. In my experience is if the drivers are adjusted too high on your ears it sounds kinda muddy.

What are the best 100~ euro poorfag headphones? Still ATH-M40x?

Why even bother?

>>61702641
Caring about autistic details instead of it just sounding good. Sounds like someone has only used shitty speakers.
>>
>>61706389
theyre not a bad bet. also look at status audio CB-1s
>>
>>61706716
CB-1 looks interesting, what's the /hpg/ consensus on it?

What should my budget for an external DAC (as a user that wants good sound but isn't an audio editor) be?

$0

let's say your on-board audio is made of a literal potato, then $50

is there any difference between the dt880's different ohm versions besides being harder to drive?

Till's getting old.
A shame, his ears used to be good.

The guys at the shop said not to go with FiiO because it's probably the cheapest solution on the market and they hope you will buy some >$200 audiophool amp instead. It's also a chink company so some people are skeptical of the build quality, though I've never had any problems.
You could probably buy only the E10K and use it at home and as a portable amp for your iPhone if you can figure it out. I'm not sure how hard it is to drive the HE560 and I can't be arsed to check, but I'm fairly sure something like the Fulla 2 is more than enough for your volume needs. And that's the only thing that matters.

Higher impedance = more refined treble

>The guys at the shop said they would recommend not going with FiiO for portable amplification... any idea why?
I know it's not portable amplifcation, but have an E10K and it's pretty damn solid. I might even get an X3 soon after taking a look at a friend's X1 and X3. Specs aside of whatever you're looking into, it's going to solid quality from FiiO in my experience. Completely different from experiences of people who never learn and buy multiple products from Hifiman and get burned each time.

I was tempted at one point to buy a pair, went fuck it and bought fidelio X2 instead.
Ear cups were still glued in to the pinholes, ended up slightly ripping the inner lining on one of the velour earpads while gently trying to remove them.

Frustrating as hell, I didn't like the feel of velour anyways a bit irritating on the skin and absolute lint magnets a pain to maintain, so I ended up using a pair of HM5 sheepskin pads I had lying around and stretched the ever loving fuck out of them to fit around the rim without even bothering to snap the pins, they are thick enough don't really feel them.

Sound signature still sounds the same to my ears, couldn't pickup an obvious difference in sound quality.

The old X3 serves me well, it probably won't be enough for demanding headphones but I'm still comfortable even after EQ. I'm not so sure about the newer ones because I have an aversion to those clicky wheels, but aside from that it's basically the same thing.
>>
>>61704372
That effect made me uncomfortable. I really feel it's outside the headphones.

my meme50x finally died

Are those 50k seinheiser headphones, like, the best of the best?

no. if you spend any more than 3k total you're just an audiofool gear collector

is the FiiO A1 amp any good? I'm looking for portability over anything else. Traveling by airplane I can't ever hear my devices. I plan to use it with my phone and N3DS.
>>
>>61709496
>FiiO A1
Only a little. Gain setting is low, less than 4dB. E6 would be a bit more useful (6-7 dB).
What seems more appropriate is getting something with superior isolation and a half decent sensitivity. What are you using now?
>>
What are the best cheap shitty earbuds? I'm talking something I can go and buy in a store right now; no time to order VE Monks.

HJE120 / HJE125

Thanks bud, gonna check them out. I'm going to a music festival tommorow, and dont wanna take my HD25s
>>
>>61709630
It would be my first amp. The primary cans I use on plans are DT 770 80ohm. I really just need to be able to hear my 3DS with decent quality and maximum portability since I'm using it on a portable.
>>
>>61699652
They look like a washing machine flipped inside out.

I wouldn't wear them in my own home.

whats the best around the ear fitting iem for 100-200 USD?
>>
>>61701791
Neutral and balanced are different things. I know it's a troll chart, but damn, put effort in.
>>
>>61709393
HD600 are the best they make, sound-wise, without EQ.
>>
>>61710193
Isn't that why the chart says "neutral with a balanced sound" and not "balanced or neutral sound".
It acknowledges them as separate things.

I'd assume the HJE125 is just the TCM125 without a mic, which would mean the HJE120 sounds better.

Probably neutral though it's because I don't really care as long as it sounds good
