I don't need it to protect myself against the government. Who cares, there is no illegal content on my devices and I'll gladly comply with any warrant.

I need it to protect myself from criminals. If someone gets their hands on my data, they have logins to hundreds of accounts, a few servers with customer data on it and a lot of important documents.
In fact, I'm legally obligated to encrypt. The government decided (and rightfully so).

Why would terrorists care about legality?

For example - govt outlaws all encryption that doesn't have a "backdoor" through which they can decrypt and access that data.

A criminal or terrorist will bypass this restriction by (1) using an encryption program not subject to that government's regulation, (2) develop their own encryption programs using freely available algorithms, or (3) find an alternate method of securely sharing the data that avoids the government snooping entirely.

So all that law does is harm consumers by weakening their security (i.e., the government leaks the keys to this backdoor or the backdoor itself creates exploitable security flaws which reduce net entropy) and doesn't help them catch serious criminals or terrorists at all.
