oh wow look at the most popular addons (i.e. the only fucking reason anyone would still use firefox) and count the ones that are 'compatible with firefox 57'.

out of the top40 addons, there are a total of five that work with v57. five. and they're all shit.

they are sacrificing all that customizability for muh 0.02s faster loading times. this is the fucking end. we've had a great run folks, but it's over now. firefox won't recover from this, it will be just another chrome clone like opera.

mozilla is trying to change their target audience from power users to normalfags with v57, dropping a shit ton of features in the process, why wouldn't i be upset?

how else would you show mozilla that what they're doing is not ok, if not by switching browsers entirely? they don't listen to feedback, they only look at the number of users. if the userbase is decreasing even further after 57, maybe they'll bring back support for legacy addons.
switching to esr and eventually switching browsers out of protest is the best thing you can do if you don't like the current development.

I think Mozilla is planning on allowing legacy addons on nightly but they're not going to make an effort to keep compatibility with them like they used to. Before if a change broke an addon Mozilla would back out the change and try to work out a way to fix the problem or just avoid the problem altogether. Now if an update breaks an addon it will remain broken unless someone fixes it. Stable releases will not support the legacy addons at all.

>Why use signing

Add-ons that change your browser's settings without your consent or steal your information have become increasingly common. Some add-ons can add unwanted toolbars or buttons, change your search settings or inject ads into your computer. Firefox will now verify that the add-ons you install have been digitally signed by Mozilla. This article explains the add-on signing feature and how it works.

Why are they builtin? Why did they not make them an addon? In fact, what was wrong with firebug?
I did notice that the builtin devtools are laggy as fuck in comparison to firebug, making them unbearable.

>youtube-dl
There was an xul addon that allowed you to spawn an instance of mpv with the current url as an argument, does it work for webextensions?

How about the tab manager?
>>
>>61692825
tab features are being integrated and mpv can intercept urls from the browser with a library called mpv-*** something

forgot the name but im sure you can find out in /mpv/

Probably because you have firebug installed. Firebug is also known to increase request times to unreasonable amounts.

that's because FF is the sane choice.

>>

>It's a feature that already existed as an addon.
Well now it's built in, just like in literally every other browser and that means that it won't break every time a new firefox version is released.

>They should have waited until the new APIs were ready.
Firefox is still 3 versions away from deprecating legacy extensions.
>>
>>61691443
I'm using nightly. I updated to 57 but my legacy extensions still work. Weren't they supposed to stop? Or is it something that will happen only when regular firefox hits 57?
>>

And this is a retarded bloat.

>and that means that it won't break every time a new firefox version is released.
They should simply keep a stable API then.

Considering how fast they release new versions this does not seem like a long time.

Once you have a proper addon system adding crap that you can't remove to the main installation is bloat.

>That's the whole fucking point of webextensions.
They could have made the devtools a webextension then. They decided not to however, instead they integrated that shit into the browser because they enjoy bloat (and probably because they were too stupid to keep the xul api stable back then).

Not a long time at all.

To be honest, they had some really retarded arbitrary requirements for people who just want to jack off.
From what I've heard of online bitching, the wait period is way longer now, you need to interact more and delete specific cookies to access exhentai, so it's no wonder people resort to the add-on.
>>
>>61691443
>mfw i literally only used firecucks for flashgot downloader and thats it and i dont even need that anymore

Goodbye you turd of a browser

Chrome + edge master race
>>
>>61694943
The wait period is literally nothing. And what the hell do you even need to interact with?
>>
>>61694943
Never done anything besides browse desu. Yet to have any problems with access even with months of no use.
>>
>>61694595
Are you kidding me? You have to edit some cookies, I am not doing that shit manually every time.

>editing cookies
>every time
Pure bullshit. I can use sadpanda on my phone, for fuck's sake, where I can't edit cookies or use the extension, so why can't you too?
>>
>>61695086
Every time you want to login.
>>
>>61695100
No, you muppet. You can get use sadpanda from your phone.
>>
>>61694977
Apparently some people needed to comment on galleries before being able to access Exhentai. Also as of late there were people reporting wait periods of a month.
Although I don't know how true any of that is. And it seems only to apply to more recent accounts.

>>61695008
It seems to depend on when you made your account. If you made it earlier it's fairly easy, if you did it recently it's more of a pain.
>>
>>61694227
it's like they don't want to improve the software but recruit people for replacing useless things just like these
i'll tell you, i'll never give my support to firefox
they have been fucking over my laptop since 2007
>>

So what?

>>61695091
>where I can't edit cookies or use the extension
What do you do exactly in order to login then?
>>
>>61695121
What's the point of all this bullshit even. It is only useful in order to track you.
Can one even connect via tor even?
>>
>>61695137
>So what?
Do you think I'd be bothering on my phone if I had to edit cookies every time? There's a much simpler way to get past the panda which is only a google search away.
>>
>>61695159
>Do you think I'd be bothering on my phone if I had to edit cookies every time?
Considering that you are a phone-using retard I would say yes.

What do you do exactly in order to login then?

no. waterfox is a fork of firefox, it will drop xul as soon as the update hits stable.

Nevermind, I searched it up and apparently the creator does indeed plan to keep XPCOM/XUL alive as long as feasible: https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox/comments/5ysn9e/proposal_please_turn_waterfox_56_into_an_esr_and/deut7uq/

You mean switch to a browser that is the real thing as opposed to a thing trying to copy it.
Perfectly rational if you ask me.
If Firefox wants to be an inferior Chrome, then might as well use Chrome.
>>
>>61697143
well, that is also available on chrom*, so i figure it should be easy enough for gorhill to make it work for the new extension scheme ff has.
only one i am missing now is the tree style tabs, but the tab center they had on their test pilot program was pretty good. doesn't work on 57 though, so hope they fix that and i should be good with that and ublock origin.
>>
>>61697816
just checked the github for tab center. tab center redux works with 57, i guess i'm good after all.
