Alright /g/, with Raven Ridge coming, let's discuss Integrated Graphics / APU's.

Why are they so reliable /g/? We constantly hear about dedicated GPU's shitting the bed, specially on laptops, but how come we never hear about integrated graphics failing? Are they built like a tank?

Iris Pro is a few years behind in performance, but look at the size of this thing, it's fucking tiny, it's pretty impressive actually. Do you think Raven Ridge will also be reliable? Do you think it will outperform Iris Pro?
>>
it copuld be the fact that dust can't kill a igpu as it doesnt have any exposed parts

the dGPU has exposed parts and if dust get in there in can short over time.
>>
>>61683793
Integrated GPUs aren't nearly powerful enough to fail. Discrete GPUs of the hundreds of watts variety fail because they're pumping insane amounts of voltage and power around under load. Ever heard of a GTX 750 ti dying? Yeah.

Raven Ridge is even tinier, this shit has fucking Vega graphics inside.

That must be one CCX. The latency within one Zen CCX is better than -lake architecture. Is Intel, dare I say, BTFO?

I dont see how AMD will manage to beat Intel on mobile. Raven Ridge is only 4-core/8-thread, so no core count advantage like on desktop Ryzen.

Intel has a lot of 45W monsters that boosts up to 4GHz on ultrabooks, how can you compete against that? Also, Iris Pro is pretty decent.

Apparently Raven ridge won't be able to pass 3.3GHz
>>
>>61683984
It will win on battery life and stronger iGPU. Also most Intel laptops are 2 core 4 thread.

APU's are the future
>>
A12-9800 is $100 and performs similary to a G4560 while having a much stronger iGPU. You can actually game on it (within reason)

Raven Ridge desktop APUs will be even stronger. But of course more expensive, too.

Daily reminder that Integrated Graphics performs a bit better than pic related
>>
>>61684016
A Raven Ridge a day keeps a normie happay
>>
The problem with iGPUs is vRAM which it gets by making system ram pretend to be vRAM.

Though we should see a good jump in performance from kaveri to raven ridge (51.2GB/s vs 34.1GB/s).
>>
>>61684073
Good thing Ryzen benefits from fast RAM anyway.
>>
>>61684073
Iris Pro has a dedicated L4 cache for graphics (128MB)

That's not enough I know, but in the future we should bigger caches.
>>
When will AMD announce desktop raven ridge? Don't want to spend money on bristol ridge.
>>
>>61684182
Should be soon
>>
>>61684182
Q4 2017 for laptops.
>>
>>61684230
I NEED a thin AMD laptop
>>
>>61684271
We all do, but you have to wait(tm).
They still need to unfuck consumer drivers for Vega.
>>
>>61684135
No, we need HMB integrated on the same die.

1GB would be more than enough for most vidya at low 1080p settings. Bandwidth would be about 128GB/s too.
>>
>>61684299
Wut?
Just put an HBM PHY on the iGPU portion of the die.
Also HBM2 stacks start at 2GB and its ~200GB/s per stack even when clocked lower.
>>
>>61684299
>1GB would be more than enough for most vidya at low 1080p settings
Actually, that would be enough for 1080p medium-high for many games.
>>
>>61684317
I was referring to HBM1 dies. HBM2 is way too expensive. In fact HBM1 is already pretty expensive.

Regardless I could see AMD selling a 3.6GHz quad-core Raven Ridge APU with 512 vega shaders @ 1.2 GHz with 1GB of 128GB/s HBM for ~$160. It would eliminate the need for ~1TFLOP dedicated GPUs and under.
>>
>>61684429
What?
HBM2 is piss cheap (for AMD that is) since Samsung is ramping production.
1 4-hi stack costs nothing.
>>
>>61683928
What do you mean?
>>
>>61684439
Hmmm if so then a 2GB HBM2 stack @ ~200GB would be pretty fucking noice on a $160 raven ridge APU.
>>
>>61684479
It should be out already
>>
>>61684535
You know we still have 2/3rds of Q3 left, right?
>>
these'll have Zen Cores, right?

I have an integrated i5 second gen. Can play most major titles at medium settings. IDK why people buy GPUs
>>
>>61684988

If by that you mean old games and League of Legends / Dota, then yes.

Try playing GTA V on that and tell me the settings/resolution you're running

at 640x480 goy, the same way benchmarks should be done.

what socket tho? it's a shame it's not AM4™

Intel graphics are a dream on Linux, but they're just so slow...
>>
>>61688160
Haven't had a problem with the igpu on my 3317u so far desu. It's working perfectly for my uses which includes psp emulation.
>>
I WANT A RAVEN RIDGE LAPPY
>>
>>61683984
The iris pro will get absolutely obliterated by the vega igpu.
>>
>>61688347
PSP emulation is not a benchmark achievement by any means.
I have a Core 2 duo box here with an intel GMA, not intel HD, GMA, and PPSSPP runs at full speed with 3D games on it.
>>
>raven ridge
>700~something stream processors
>polaris has 2300
>vega has 4096

Well fuck.
AMD had a chance to gut cnsoles and create the ultimate bum machine by simply slapping a zen and a polaris or a half of vega together and selling it for 300$ as a gay ming APU console slayer.
That would be a big hit with poorfags

But nope, they simply didn't do it.
This thing will be way under any minimal requirements for any game.
>>
>>61683793
>Do you think Raven Ridge will also be reliable? Do you think it will outperform Iris Pro?
Obviously it will be a few times more powerful, it's amd after all
>>
>>61688484
You're probably overestimating quite a bit the actual processing requirements of the games, specially taking account the fact that poorfags are generally ok with 30 fps.
700 stream processors is most likely still way above the stock PS4.
>>
>>61688536
Yeah it should be more powerful than stock ps4 for sure, but there's a few problems.

Ps4 runs 900p 30fps generally, which almost no one will accept on pc. Rather few people will accept 30fps on pc. Hypocritical, yes, but they will do anything to defend their stupid console purchases.

console optimization is mostly a myth at this point, but quite a few games on pc are still poorly optimized and will jump a lot in framtrate and don't have a built in for cap, so a 30fps average means jumping from 40-10.
>>
>>61688630
>which almost no one will accept on pc
This is the part where you're letting /g/ get too much into your head.
This, on high is a MASSIVE upgrade over the intel parts that poorfags generally use.
>>
>>61688656
I'm not thinking about g, I'm thinking all the semi-normie people I know irl and on the internet. No complaining about 900p30 on console but lots of complaining if something goes bellow 60fps on pc.
>>
>>61688696
It probably will be enough to push games that are actually played on PC like OW to 60 with ease, and even most ports, given some sacrifices.
>>
>>61688696
PC at least has the option to set the graphics to super-shit tier to try to squeeze out 1080p60. On consoles you're stuck with whatever tradeoff devs thought players would want.
>>
>>61688772
>On consoles you're stuck with whatever tradeoff the art director whined until he got, that most likely included 30 fps because "60 fps looks like a soap opera".
>>
>>61688809
You can't even see more than 24fps anyway.
t. Ubisoftdick
>>
>>61688922
You can, but it automatically turns everything into mexican soap operas.
You go there, do your space sci-fi game, and then the bumblefuck programmer optimizes it behind your back and BLAM! you end shipping Maria Mercedes instead of a game.
>>
>>61683984
Long story short: they won't. Systems integrators are what sell processors. Systems integrators get paid big bucks by Intel to have Intel Inside (TM). Simple as that.
>>
>>61688536
That'll be close to xbone's 768 SPs. PS4 has 1152 SPs and don't forget its DDR5 at 176 GB/s.

The top of the line raven ridge will probably handle most meme games, moba and arena shooters, at 1080p from medium to high settings.
>>
>>61683793
we dont hear about integrated graphics failing because instead we hear. "my cpu broke"
i mean think about it.
>>
>>61683984
>Intel has a lot of 45W monsters that boosts up to 4GHz on ultrabooks, how can you compete against that?
Well, underclocked R7 does pretty well, if you don't mind having a discrete GPU.
