If you want help:
>Assemble parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>State the budget for your build (and country if not USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Vega soon.

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any <$30 cooler.

Anons, I've finally got the money to build my first PC, but the motherboard I was gonna order went out of stock, can you recommend a roughly equal replacement for this build?

Also, some anons quite a few threads back told me to get a cheap graphics card at first and wait for the prices to lower before I buy a good one, have they lowered yet?

Is there one I could get that'd allow this build to run stuff like Arma III or Squad at at least 30 FPS without going over $900?

Is there anything else I need to get get along with this list besides a keyboard and mouse? I'm just gonna use a TV as a monitor.

If your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD", this is genuine cause for alarm. AMD is a third-world based company who make inferior, "knock-off" copies of American processor chips. They use child labor extensively in their third world sweatshops, and they deliberately disable the security features that American processor makers, such as Intel, use to prevent hacking. AMD chips are never sold in stores, and you will most likely be told that you have to order them from internet sites. Do not buy this chip! This is one request that you must refuse your son, if you are to have any hope of raising him well.

it goes missing and comes back because Intel fans get butthurt.
The Ryzen 7 1700 can effectively replace the 7700K. MASSIVE improvements have been made to the gaming performance of Ryzen in a matter of months and it's only going to get better from here on out.
>fucking corefuckers
That's not it. Whether a processor is futureproof has nothing to do with how many cores it has, but rather how many threads it has and how good the multi-thread performance is.
The fact of the matter is that Ryzen can now hit over 144 FPS in most games, as newer games are becoming incredibly multi-threaded.
>They said this 5 years ago with Bulldozer!
Yes they did. And it happened. Go look up modern benchmarks. The FX 8350 outperforms the 2500K in most games nowadays.

>>
>>61681611
Yes.
The real bottleneck is usually the CPU.
For that use, R5 1600 or R7 1700 is recommended.

I have a 970 which I was going to take from old rig, at least until I can afford something better.

Wow, an actual productive comment to my question. Thank you. I'm trying to build my first ever pc
>>
I have a mini build with all these parts at the moment:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9pzNbj

I also have a PNY GTX 660 I believe so I was looking to update the card. What card could I get without having to upgrade my PSU? Also I notice with the 660 I have I can play games on my larger tower on ultra pretty fine but if I try the same on this mini build I get a few lag spikes. Is it the CPU or mobo holding me back? The larger tower I have with no lag is a bulldozer CPU with the same ram and using the same card.

>>
>>61681929
Yes. Deselect that mobo and when you go to pick a new one, use the AM4 socket filter if you want a Ryzen CPU.
>>
>>61681929
For an AMD CPU, you want an A320, B350, or X370 motherboard.
Z270 is only compatible with Intel CPUs because of the socket.

I have an Asus X552C laptop, with a Mediatek MTE730E WiFi+Bluetooth Combo that's giving me problems since forever (before with Windows, now with Ubuntu). My machine is double boot (Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 16.04, I need both OS), so a /g/entooman at /fglt/ told me that to replace it with a linux-compatible one I should get something Atheros. So, guys, what would be the best model for it? Something that's available on Amazon (so I'm sure I can get it in Italy), is compatible with the rest and doesn't cost too much, if possible.

So, I'm building a rig, something I haven't done in a while. I have no intentions of swapping my GPU, case and display for the time being. This are the other parts I'm looking into:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CKZZbj
What do you think?´
I intend to get into 3D modelling eventually, something I have been wanting to do for a while after getting to toy around with Zbrush at a friend's house. Other than that, simple webm making, gaming and random shit people do with their computers are some of the uses I intend to give to this build.
My main doubt is with the motherboard and RAM combo. I also wonder what kind of PSU would be ok, hard to tell without knowing what GPU I'll end up putting on it (I'm waiting for Vega, maybe it won't be shit).

I've a feeling that I will miss 16GB a lot since I'm using 6GB right now and I'm not even playing. But 1700 would be kinda nice to encode and that's it I guess, maybe 30m-1h shorter encoding time. Am I doing this right, guys?
Also, can't go higher than 3000 'cuz money, can't even reach 16gb 3000, AIO is just something to make temps better (mine does not have an AM4 upgrade kit).

Don't do this. If you're getting a pre-built from ibuypower, get one of their AMD Ryzen systems. I recommend the Ryzen 5 1600 and the Ryzen 7 1700, bot with the Wraith Spire air cooler, and on an MSI Tomahawk motherboard

Thing is, given a good GPU, you can run all the games at 60FPS+ of minimum with Ryzen and good RAM.
AM4 motherboards are also more affordable given similar set ups and dual-channel is more affordable and better suited for games than quad-channel equivalents.
If you ramp the resolution up, CPU becomes less relevant.
More modern games are starting to benefit from more cores.

BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program called " xenix", which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These programs are used by hackers to break into other people's computer systems to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people's stereos to steal their music, using the "mp3" program. Torovoltos is a notorious hacker, responsible for writing many hacker programs, such as "telnet", which is used by hackers to connect to machines on the internet without using a telephone.

Your son may try to install " lunix" on your hard drive. If he is careful, you may not notice its presence, however, lunix is a capricious beast, and if handled incorrectly, your son may damage your computer, and even break it completely by deleting Windows, at which point you will have to have your computer repaired by a professional.

If you see the word "LILO" during your windows startup (just after you turn the machine on), your son has installed lunix. In order to get rid of it, you will have to send your computer back to the manufacturer, and have them fit a new hard drive. Lunix is extremely dangerous software, and cannot be removed without destroying part of your hard disk surface.

The good thing about the G4560 is that it comes with a iGPU hence you don't need a GPU to use it. Meaning as long as you aren't gaming with it, it can save you upwards of 100s of dollars.

Anyway people shouldn't be gaming with 500 dollar builds, you are better off buying a console for that price.

The reason to build sub 500 dollar builds is for reasons like parents wanting a facebook machine, you needing a NAS frontend, etc.

The person shilling an R3 is fucking retarded.

Price for performance the console will always come out ahead. The good thing about the PC is that performance is scalable with price but that isn't the point.

The G4560/4600 has it niche in the fact that it is sub 100 dollars and comes with a iGPU making it perfect for builds that are below 500 dollars. Not everyone needs a GPU for hurrdurr reasons.

Do you have Downs? The only argument for getting the G4560 over the R3 is because the G4560 has an iGPU and this CPU completely nullifies that.

Is it performance tied to RAM speed like Ryzen is? If so do you need to speed more on RAM?

Critique, please. Looking to play Nier Automata maxed settings, hoping to play games at high settings for a while with this. I honestly don't know what I'm doing though, I just tried to 'upgrade' a build suggestion someone gave me yesterday. Would it work? Is the power supply adequate?

>>
>>61684885
If that's the only thing you're going to do at your computer then get this instead, €50 with a 3.5Ghz base and 3.8Ghz turbo, why the shit would you spend $80 for a CPU you're only going to run Excel on? Hell, you can do that on a Raspberry Pi or a $200 Chromebook and hook it up to an external monitor when you're at home.

It is always the same shit with you faggots.
Just wait. Please wait. Then it turns out to be another turd by AMD.

You know what? Fine. I refuse to spend more time arguing with a clear AMD shill. When those CPUs are released and the benchmarks are out which shows them beating the G4560/4600, we can replace them in the OP. For now the G4560/4600 is still the superior CPU for sub 500 dollar builds. Happy?

It doesn't need to beat the G4560, just perform adequately if the cost is $20 to $30 lower when the only reason for why you get the G4560 for turbo poorfag builds is because it has an iGPU. The iGPU in the AMD CPUs are miles ahead of Intel and AM4 has an infinitely better upgrade path and future proofing.

I have a dark rock 3 on a R7 1700X right now.

I idle between 40 and 45 C.

I've only OCed to 3.85, and it stabilizes around 82C, that was at 1.35 volts.

It is dead silent even at 100% speed, but I think the thermal paste included might suck, so consider getting some better paste for another 2-3C.

From what I've seen adding a fan for push/pull takes off only 1-2C from load.
>>
Is the taichi worth it if I'm going with a R5 1600? I want a good motherboard for overclocking that I can throw a better AM4 chip in some years down the line.
>>
>>61685193
You mean from the makers of the 4 months EOL board AssCock?
>>
>>61685221
Is AsRock really that bad? I've done a lot of research and people everywhere are shilling the taichi as one of the better AM4 motherboards out right now.
>>
>>61680933
How much radiator area do you need for a Threadripper+Vega64 build?
>>
>>61685186
Hmm, might go liquid in that case.
>>
>>61685242
Asrock started as a budget brand for somewhat decent motherboards. Somewhere down the road, they made quality motherboards while retaining their budget pricing hence boosting their rep but people forgot they are a budget brand. They were reminded of that fact when AssCock EOL a Ryzen board they released which was 4 months old.
>>
>>61685242
asrock and gigabyte boards are the best value right now. The asrock boards seem a bit higher quality, and are a lot less gimmicky. Asus defiantly makes the best boards right now, but are prices as such.
>>
>>61685272
They are good value till they EOL your board for no reason and you are SOL.

http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=5331&PN=12&title=x370-gaming-k4-new-bios-with-agesa-1006a

And it is not even a cheap B350 chipset. It is their fucking X370 chipset.
>>
>>61685255
Yeah I'm getting higher temps than I expected, I may have done something incorrectly (not enough thermal paste, uneven tightening) or it might be due to a lack of airflow in my case, since it only has 1 in 1 out (fractal define C)
>>
>>61685314
I watched a testing video for various fan layouts and 1+1 didn't perform much different at all from other layouts. The real kicker is when you put a liquid radiator in the front.
>>
>>61685312
That's disappointing. Maybe I'll shell out an extra 40 bucks for the higher end ASUS motherboard then.
>>
>>61685343
Can't go wrong with ASUS but like all taiwanese manufacturers if you have to RMA anything, prepare to get fucked. This applies to Asrock, MSI and gigabyte.

I haven't played the game yet, no, that's why I'm here, or at least one reason
>>
>>61685369
The game hasn't been patched since release and there has been a host of issues with the games which are a hit or miss on some PCs. Personally I had no problem playing the entire game and didn't crash even once but there are reports of people having white screens, CTDs etc.
>>
>>61685369
Major problems with the PC port
1. The game will natively render no higher than 1600x900. This can be fixed with a mod.
2. The game has terrible performance. This is due to the game engine rendering every light in the world regardless of whether or not its in view. This can be fixed by modifying .ini files.
3. For ~50% of people, the game crashes frequently (every 20min-2 hour) with no sure way to fix it.
Square Enix has yet to acknowledge any of these issues.
I recommend you pirate the game and hope it works on your system.
>>
>>61685415
Despite all these problems the game is a fucking masterpiece and is worth playing at least once.
>>
>>61685426
Agreed,
Even though I get a crash every few hours, I'm working my way through the game because it's honestly amazing, easily my favorite from this year.
I refuse to buy the actual game, but I might buy the OST. I hope Squeenix will release it on vinyl.

Is this a good motherboard and a good price for this motherboard? I'm hoping to grab an R7 1700 when they are back in stock on amazon and I want to overclock to roughly 3.6-3.7ghz on all cores.

Also, is this good RAM for hitting 3200mhz?

I checked this particular motherboard's QVL on the ASUS website but couldn't find this particular ram kit on it. I found some that had similar product numbers up until a few of the digits but they also had different kit sizes and I am just a little confused about which memory to pick.
