This means more gaming fps on nvidia cards! This is unacceptable, more tests needed.

This is called "optimizing" and it's happening since day one of video gaming.

If one buys 1080/ti one would suppose it doesn't tweak the graphics to worse settings.

RX Vega atm is a flop in vidya. They should've just made it a pro card.

More like rendering half your monitor's resolution only at the times you are able to perceive just half your monitor's resolution.

It's cutting corners were it can get away with it. This is literally what optimizing is about.
>>
>>61676201

JUST in: Nvidia probably fucking its customers by using inaccurate floating point values instead of integers (more gaming fps on 1070/10x0). More tests needed! Test it! Test it!

My point is that even 24 bits is cutting corners. Sampling results in data loss. This is not a problem because normally the discrepancy isn't perceived or maybe only just.

Now another optimizing strategy is explored and suddenly everyone loses their minds.
>>
It's like using Xing as an MP3 encoder!
>Babbies won't remember that though
>>
>>61676884
Yet most optimisation in games is indeed noticeable. The only valid optimisation is for the devs to use the lowest level API possible and write better algorithms.
>>
Isn't this a gaming experience feature or something. It lowers resolution when you don't need it or when for below a certain point

>>
>>61676844
They are, Bega is great for compute but absolutely shit for games and the market now knows it.
They're shilling as hard as they can to try and stop that market completely evaporating.

Under 1080 performance for 1080 RRP prices (1080 can be found for ~450 often though) with almost double the 1080 power draw.
Not to mention Vega64 can't really OC higher 1750mhz and uses 444watts doing so, where a 1080 can hit over 2ghz without breaking 220w...

Vega is garbage for games, AMD's entire current stack is garbage for games.

>>
>>61676949
The 'secret features' aren't really a secret, they're broken fundamentally in hardware - it won't be until a Vega refresh that they'll work at all.

>That is just fanboy ejaculating and you know it.
Mate, I think you're the one being a fanboy here, every post you're bending over backwards to find a new way to say Vega isn't all that bad.
Face it mate, they fucked up, big time.

The biggest fuck up though is the pricing, sure things can wrong during design/tapeout/fab - but pricing the product so high when it's clearly inferior to competing products outside of professional workloads (which aren't what gaming cards are typically sold for..) isn't going to go so well for them.
Polaris had value because it brought Hawaii performance to the <$400 bracket. Vega doesn't really bring anything - right now it's just Fiji with a higher clockspeed and double the memory.

Also,

-t 290X 8GB owner with no upgrade path on AMD since all their new shit sucks.
>>
>>61676908
You do understand that almost everything in game development is about optimizations and approximations? The whole triangle based rendering is one big optimization/approximation as are all the shading models. The same goes for essentially everything you see in the game.
>>
>>61677061
If it's noticeable, it's not an optimization, it's just a hack. In this case it's very noticeable.
>>
>>61676201
Not that surprising considering both manufacturers release special drivers for new and popular games to get better performance. I think it's more of a rule than an exception that there has to be some sort of compromise going on between fps and 'correctness' of image.
When comparing performance between vendors it should be taken to account somehow but I think many people value high performance over absolute correctness.
Someone dig up the post from that nvidia driver developer or whatever who said that basically ever game is broken by default and that gpu vendors end up fixing them with special drivers.
>>
>>61677061
Yes, I do. That is why people use low grade geforce and radeon shit and not proper pro setups, and why I can easily push 100% CPU and GPU usage on rendering software unlike in most games.
>>
>>61677034
>>61676631
This happen more then one in this year alone
>>
>>61677080
>If it's noticeable, it's not an optimization, it's just a hack. In this case it's very noticeable.
Literally all the shadows in all the actual shipped titles I've played are noticeably bad. According to you, this means that all shadows in all games are "just a hack."
>>
>>61677138
Try turning the setting up from "pixels splatted onto the floor low".
>>
>>61677138
Screen reflection shadows are a hack, yes. Just as much as old games simulating mirrors via identical rooms.
>>
>>61677167
>>61677161
I'm saying that the entire rendering pipeline according to that guy is a hack.
>>
Nvidia have always done this, bought higher average fps with worse image quality. It's not anything new. This has been going on for over a decade.

It's why there should always be comparison screenshots along with the raw numbers when websites do benchmarks. Or just record the whole thing and put it on youtube.
>>
>>61677167
>Screen reflection shadows

It's pretty much a glorified benchmark tool, has support for tons of new technologies like 3dmark would and hits PCs hard. I doubt any of them take the results all that seriously, but it is nice to test a game that has full DX12 features including support for mixed multi GPU setups.

even joker productions confirmed it was an issue on both amd and nvidia and he gets sponsored by amd. his testing also found that the patch reduced both amd and nvidia performance as the shadows were being properly rendered. it was never an nvidia/amd issue to begin with. it was a software issue which the devs themselves resolved. if it was a gpu hardware-side issue it would have required a new driver patch to fix, which didn't happen.

Both companies already do it to an extent. A lot of newer games have frame rate targets and adjust settings to keep that frame rate solid. Titanfall 2 for example dynamically adjusts the resolution to meet your target frame rate which is very useful if you don't mind the image blurring a bit to prevent frame dips.

Not good enough. I want the driver to keep 144 at all times no matter the cost. Why can't it just time shaders and kill them if they take too long? Yeah, it would cause visual glitches like mad, but I want muh steady framerate.
>>
>>61682747
Well sure Fujitsu actually could bring the competition that AMD couldn't hardware, and software wise. AMD isn't even in that game though, so pretending that they are relevent outside of low end consumer bullshit is comical at the least, but you know folks here like to say that AMD gpus aren't for /v/ which is ironic since they don't offer much for most of the enterprise, or pros.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA THE WORDS VEGA AND SHIT, AND AMD AND ASS ARE INTERCHANGABLE HAHAHAHAHAHA
>>
>>61685628
Yes get an AMD SSG when it releases. It specializes in 8k raw video, and nothing else. It will be so niche, and specialized that AMD won't even take the time to support it.
>>
>>61678625
Same, I have a gtx 1070 and a rx 470 in another build, the Rx 470 is great for the money.

The WX 9100 is the exact same thing w/o the extra memory support. Please try and have some clue what you're talking about before you shitpost.

NO SHUT UP SHUT UP ANYTHING THAT ISNT PRO AMD IS SHITPOSTING

Seriously though, thee underage newfags gotta go. They get triggered over everything. Everyone was throwing memes at intel and still is with worthless shitposting but now that AMD is getting their turn from Nvidia people they suddenly become victims
>>
>>61685945
Intel got shit for X299 because it was released and got universally panned. And before release Intel shills were yelling up and down that it would totally destroy AMD.

RX Vega isn't even fucking out yet.

This board is enough of a shithole already without further cancer.

Before the miner rape happened, AMD Polaris GPUs had superior price/performance ratios. They consumed more power, though, mostly because of the hardware scheduler.

You really want this board to be as much of a shithole as /v/, I can tell. Every CPU/GPU thread has to turn into some bizzare mirror of shitposting console war threads or you aren't happy. You want to be happy wallowing like a pig in shit.

Don't like it go back to funnyjunk, everyone shitposts everywhere and always has, get over it.
If such a shitty board as /v/ can ruing /g/ then maybe /g/ wasn't as great as you think it is

Holy fucking shit the amount of shills defending Nvidia in this thread.
GPU boost and encrypted bioses designed in such a way to only hamstring competent users who are capable of using a high oc for 24/7 use.

Rendering highly tesselated pools of water below the map to hurt AMD perf.

Nerfing Titan xp by 300% to sell more quadros.

Literally using freesync for their gsync laptops and when someone posted a YouTube video on how to convince the desktop drivers that the monitor is in a laptop and thus enable "freesync" they freaked the fuck out and used scare tactics to get it taken down.

But yeah enjoy that 1060 3gb you fucking plebs

This. Well not the actual people who own amd products, but the people who have a financial based interest in AMD as a brand are just too ridiculous.
They actually try to force a narrative that there are actual "fanboys" who would defend a brand this hard without being paid to. At the end of the day a consumer doesn't give a fuck about who makes what, and only cares if the item can do what they want at the price that they are willing to spend.
