Search with an alternative engine. You can get interesting results that way.

Check out Neocities, it's pretty legit.

FanFiction.net is a good place, too. The Teen Titans and Star Fox section are really good, but so is the Halo, Resident Evil adn Silent Hill section.

Also check out fan sites for those games, and the Bungie forums.

Social media, and Youtube, absorbed the "fan pages" segment of the internet. Now any joe schmoe can make a facebook "fan page" without having to know any kind of web design.

by the same token, Reddit and 4chan absorbed the "fan forum" segment of the internet.

Amazon and Ebay absorbed the e-commerce segment. Alternatives do still exist, but considering this was always something that made us wary- we only buy from places that accept paypal. And in general, Amazon has everything, so it sort of limits the need to go to other online stores.

wiki is bad only in the sense that now Wikipedia is the end all be all of information. An encyclopedia that can be freely edited by anyone anywhere. There is no scholar element to it compared to traditional encyclopedias. (which also- once they are printed, are printed and cant be edited- which also makes it harder for malicious parties such as governments to change the narrative and information as easily)

Youtube intersects everywhere, but it's biggest flaw was adding monetization to videos. because much like social media it breeds a sort of narcissism and now everyone and their mother has tried to get rich quick off of it. And now it's gotten worse since they changed the way monetization works. (encouraging quantity over quality)

In general, the problem with what the internet has become can be summed up as "the internet got casualized"
