It would be far superior if the manufacturers wasted to same amount of raw material and production effort into something that's useful by default instead of needing speshul setups to be useful in uncommon circumstances.

The problem with ALL monitors is one of poor quality control and inferior display technologies in general. Dead pixels. Poor uniformity. Backlight bleed. Latency. Adaptive sync. Color accuracy. Image burn etc.

The problem is there is no perfect display technology (OLED is a meme for static images and fuck expensive).

Also there is the problem of cost of manufacture. To guarantee that perfectly uniform display with zero dead pixels the cost increases substantially as many inferior panels would have to be discarded during manufacturing process.

It is why there is such huge variation and luck of the draw on buying a new monitor.

Then of course there is the software side of things dealing with 'odd' aspect ratios and GPU's possibly not powerful enough to drive them.

Curved, ultra widescreen monitors of course amplify the above issues.

VA panels have the best contrast and full blacks, but they are prone to ghosting which is annoying in games. There are a bunch of Samsungs and Acers with VA panel.

IPS panels have great response time, virtually no input lag, but have poor contast that seems worse than it is due to ips glow

TN panels have basically the same contrast as IPS, but no glow, so its percieved as better. However its more prone to clouding, gamma shift, awful viewing angles, pixel inversion and color banding. At least it is the fastest of the bunch, best for autistic gamers.
