That calculator is dumb, even if you take out everything it starts at 60w. So you've got more buffer than you think. If you look at any of the reviews for the FE, their systems are probably a bit more power heavy than yours and still draw less than 400w from the wall when gaming.

1. they removed the Soundstorm audio from it, the one thing that made it great
2. the integrated components often had problems, I remember guides that told you to disable the hardware firewall on it, as well as something else that caused bluescreens on CD access
3. NVidia stopped all driver support for it, so it just plain did not work on NT6 despite the hardware being strong enough otherwise.

Since it was a very popular chipset, this meant that tons of users could not get Vista or Windows 7 working, or get it working only in a very buggy manner. Bluescreen after install type of buggy.

Oddly, it worked fine with the XP chipset drivers, but only if you used a Geforce card. If you used an ATI card (the x1950 Pro being a popular choice, being very cheap and extremely powerful, and available on AGP), then not even the XP chipset drivers could get the thing working under Windows 7. I had to switch to a MSI board that used VIA chipset, of all things, to keep my machine capable of running for a few more years.

So yeah nforce was a buggy chipset, from which they gutted the actually good features, and it had driver (non-)support that makes Creative look good.

You need a high yield, then you have to stack multiple levels of the die together.

Then you have to put them all on an interposer. Twice. And put a Vega die on the interposer too (Vega, being a big chip, may have bad yields).

The chip might get damaged on any of those stacks. Hence, very bad yields, making it costly to produce. It got so bad with the Fury that they included a non-working die with the card, as a souvenir.

Honestly, I'm surprised they can sell it as low as $399, but knowing the market, it'll cost way more once it gets here (1080 had a MSRP of what, $450? It costs $600 on average, and the 480 was said to cost $200, but then it started at $300).
