Is it possible to encrypt something such that how to decrypt it is publicly known, but no one can tweak it then re-encrypt it without it being identifiable to whoever decrypts it again?

I'm trying to figure out a safe way to distribute updates for a peer-to-peer program over itself.
Due to strange technical limitations, a peer must receive all information for the update from one peer.

I've dabbled in a bit of html and css and want to go further with web dev. I've mainly been using codecademy.
Looking to get into javascript and go from there, should I just keep banging it out with codecademy(get's kinda repetitive) or can /g/ recommend other ways to improve your programming skills?
Also, what would be good projects to work on to keep html and css fresh and improve on those aswell?

What's wrong with my laptop?
The parts screen is sometimes pink toned. It's dynamic, changes as the video changes, or sometimes changes even when it's just the wallpaper.
At first I thought it was cable connection problem because if I move the screen it changes or disappears, but it's behavior is more consistent with gpu problem

You'r welcome, the second one is great because you also have to do projects and such. Sure there is a bit of "setup" time, but overall I found this a very good experience where you get clear goals without have to repeat everything ad infinitum. And since you already did some codeacademy stuff, you can probably skip a lot of stuff too, and move through the curriculum quicker.

Enjoy and have fun anon.

Anyone here got an EEE PC and can recommend a good, small and fast distro to run on it?

Currently using lubuntu on it (EEE PC 901) but it still feels a little bit slow.

Linux noob here, so Arch/Gentoo might be a bit too much for now (I'll save those for later)

I'm trying to open ports so people can connect to me. Used to be a pretty straight-forward process for be; access the router control panel via a browser and open sesame, but my ISP forced me to upgrade my modem to this weird pseudo-router modem which I can connect to via wi-fi, and it has its own gateway at 192.168.0.1. I tried opening them on the modem's gateway but no luck.

Is there any way to fix this?

I'm pretty new to Python and Raspberry/Linux and I'm trying to understand how a piece of code works so I can modify it to make a stepper motor run at the fastest possible speed.

The relevant part is
 # Read wait time from command line
if len(sys.argv)>1:
WaitTime = int(sys.argv[1])/float(1000)
else:
WaitTime = 10/float(1000)

The way I understand it it reads a value from console
sys.argv
and then it does something with
sys.argv[1]
which in the end is the value that decides the WaitTime value and thus the rotation speed.
When I run the program from the included IDE the stepper motor runs slow as molases. However, when I use the command line and provide a parameter low enough (like 4) the motor runs super fast, which is what I want.
What I want to do is find out what I can do to hardcode the code so the motor runs at the highest speed, since I don't need to pick a variable speed.
The rest of the code is here
http://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2012/07/stepper-motor-control-in-python/

Sure, but is probably just running locally and listening on 127.0.0.1 only.

Are running some kind of firewall? if not, then by default all your ports are kinda open(and it looks like your network doesn't have a NAT or you're on a DMZ), you can use something like ufw to easily close ports

Oh yeah probably, that means all of your ports are exposed, you normally should have a NAT between.

>I was under the impression that there is no risk when there's no service listening on a port.
Thats true but as soon as a service start listening on a port it would be exposed to the internet and that is a security risk.

That's just how cryptography work. You have a private key that you use to encrypt your data, and everyone has the public key that he can use to decrypt. Nobody will be able to decrypt something that has not been encrypted with your key, so no-one can change the content of the package. Merely all cryptographic systems works this way. PGP, RSA,...
If you don't worry about encryption, you can just look into signing your data the same way.

Color issues with screens (laptop too) generally is a cable issue. If it toggles when you move the screen, this seems to confirm this. To fix this, it looks like you have no other way than to open your laptop and check the two endings of the cable, I doubt it's on the screen part because it's generally well glued. However, opening your laptop can sometimes be shit to do depending on your model.

I do believe the term you're looking for is more like 'signing'. Sure you can temper the data without changing the signature. However, the receiver will be able to see that this is not the correct signature for this data.
Also, when you use https and SSL certificates, everyone knows the public key, and can initiate communication with your server. The client and the server will create their own temporary keys based on your certificates.

Hello /g/

Here are the specs
ASUS-Prime a320m-k
AMD ryzen 5 1400
GTX 1050ti
8GB RAM DDR4 2666MHZ

Yes i plugged the cables into the video card not the motherboard.

Any ideas i'm kinda clueless what to do now...

Is power supply good enough? Is it connected to MB, CPU, GPU ?
Is your mother board using your video card and not the motherboard output?
>>
>>61638510
Alright, I see how it works now; but one thing I'm uncertain of is, how is the public key determined?
Is it kept related to the sender ID, so that it's impossible to trick someone into using a public key that works for a private key you have?

And if so, is it possible for me to generate a private key based off of a public key?

I'm asking because I can't measure the temperature on my PSU, so I want the fan to ramp up during load, even if the other components are cool

fan of the psu? you dont control that eighter
anyway people should buy quality psus, like seasonic
and they dont give a flying fuck if they get 20°C or 50°C air through them

i have a teamspeak server for my friends and this faggot keeps joining. I want to shadowban him so he doesn't try to get around the ban.

I've tried blocking his IP in my pfsense firewall but I seem to have set it up wrong.
I could ban him directly through teamspeak but then he would get the message that he is banned. I simply want my router to drop his connection every time he tries to connect.

Any ideas?
>>

>you dont control that eighter
yes I do. I've replaced the original fan.
>they dont give a flying fuck if they get 20°C or 50°C air through them
If you have IN air of 50 and heavily load the PSU you definitely want to crank the fan since the the components can approach 70 without proper airflow. If it's not under load then 50 IN is fine. Hence why I want to control via load

Together with all the notification sounds.
>>
>>61640782
Sure. For starters, the only thing the VPN hides is your IP. So they'll still be able to monitor everything you do, including webcam/mic. They can also upload your files or hashes of them. If you use any accounts that cross over with your clearnet identity they can link them to you, which they don't even have to bother with if you're running the VPN off the hardware that has been "hacked".

https://askubuntu.com/questions/277517/what-does-ctrl-alt-f12-do

you switch between "terminals"
on one of them your xorg and interface is running
when you then go to another, you can log in as different user, no interface
it allows to do quickly things as different users, usually root vs regular user
but I could have just told you to write su in to terminal, and then enter root password
stupid me, but if you are on linux tty are useful, so today you learn about them

Usually the button is on the PSU itself and there is no way to remove it without opening the PSU. I have never seen a button that is outside of the PSU and somehow connects to it. Were you so stupid you opened the fucking PSU instead of unscrewing it from the bottom and the back of the case?

I got an interview test in python. It seems like the tasks are all just one liners using numpy though?

l already did it clumsily in native python, but part of the task is to plot graphs and the plotting library I found requries numpy anyway, so it would be silly not to make use of it.

Also to install the modules I had to install system wide, I couldn't see how to install by importing code into my solution like with C# or C.

This means the interviewer will need a python environment set up and will have to manually install every single little module any of the test takers uses globally on his entire system.

Is this legit? If so how stupid is this language. It's all very weird to me.
Or am I missing something big.

General stuff like CPUs, NICs, sound cards, USB devices and drives are well supported(there's also ndiswrapper but is not a silver bullet).

Stuff like graphics card are more tricky, intel GPUs are well supported, Nvidia has good propietary drivers but AMD is a PITA to work with(except for mining)

>>61642244
The more bleeding edge(arch, fedora) a distro is the less info you will find on the net, on the other hand the more stable and slow paced distro(debian, centos) have more support but older packages.

But I did
sudo apt-get install python3-numpy

How would I know what OS they are on.

I can't believe there isn't a way to write python programs and bundle libraries in there too. Virtualenv looks like yet another package to globally install that lets you make custom environments.

Seems like "Freeze" is also almost there, but that turns the entire python runtime including your program into .c files?

>Alright, I see how it works now; but one thing I'm uncertain of is, how is the public key determined?
The public et private keys are generated by the same perso and their security is based on primes numbers. (see RSA Wikipedia page for more info on generation). You have many tools that can give you symmetrical keys as GnuPG. Symmetrical means that the keys can be used to encrypt messages in both ways.

>Is it kept related to the sender ID, so that it's impossible to trick someone into using a public key that works for a private key you have?
It's *not* impossible, but cipher security is not based on impossibility to hack, but on the time it would take to do so. For the key generation (for RSA), you randomly chose two high prime numbers that you will use to mathematically generate you keys. The security is based on the fact there is no algorithm known today to defactorize a number in a two prime number factors, or find every prime numbers. You just have to try every combinations, and that can take a long time. (however not for quantum processors, be aware)
As long as you keep your private key secret, as well as your two original prime numbers, you shall be good.

>And if so, is it possible for me to generate a private key based off of a public key?
With a lot of time only as I said.

Ha there you caught me. I have no idea how this would work, i mean python is an Interpreted language you cannot just compile everything into a binary and send it through mail. You could use freeze to help you recreate the virtualenv on another machine(install all the dependencies of your code).

You asked if it safe to install windows 10. Safe for what? For your confidentiality, sure not. For you dual boot? Microsoft has fixed some issue, but cases it erases Linux partitions are always occurring, with definitely not. For your Windows system? Windows does not track installation of updates and their content, and cannot reverse the process properly if something breaks. Also it's seen that Windows update process is never safe on this point.
There you have you answer, and I admitted you shouldn't, and why I disable all updates on my Windows machines.

That's what I don't understand. I've not used python before and they're asking for python code as a task.

In C# I'd just nuget package install, then at your destination you restore packages and it gets dlls targetting your environment (it either builds them from code or downloads them I guess)

And nuget installs to your solution so it doesn't affect other C# soltuions you have. Installing globally is madness. Really don't get it

The saddest thing to me is when a tablet (and I'm sure it happens to phones, too) slowly stop being able to charge/ transfer data without angling the cord a specific way. Then it can't, so your battery goes to 0% and can't boot anymore from being 0% so long.

I've only owned two tablets, both of which were samsung, since samsung's been good to me besides the software side of android not giving you much freedom. I think they'd need to release a new generation or cheaper tablets to move from micro usb to usb-c, though. Hope they do.

something like

>>61645521
The problem here is not only the speed but the NAND used.

850 EVO uses 3D NAND which is its mayor selling point, Sandisk makes average SSDs.
850 EVO is the gold standard when it comes to SATA SSDs, Ultra ll has moderate failure rate.
>>
>>61645647

Also it is way faster since 850 EVO doesnt use the SLC cache hack to get proper speeds that wont flop.
Ultra ll speeds flop after seconds of being in stress.

ubuntu has root login disabled by default.
use sudo -i or sudo -s for root privileges.
(sudo -s will preserve more of your normal user env, like $HOME and your aliases etc.
If you sudo -s you can also su root from there.
You can enable root logins on ubuntu by giving root a password, but I forget the exact commands. Google probably remembers them. And ubuntu forums says it's a bad idea anyway.
>>
>>61645664
>Ultra ll speeds flop after seconds of being in stress.
Huh I didnt know, I have an Ultra I I think right now thats 256 or 240GB, and I noticed after a few seconds the transfer speeds would slow down and maybe recover now and then, like a HDD does at times.

Usually when transfering many medium size (100-500MB) files.

This def makes me lean towards to samsung.

By the way, has any SSD maker solved the issue that you cannot really "clear the free space" the way you can on a HDD?

Or is the only way to "cleanse" an SSD is to move the data off the drive, format it clean, then move it back?
>>
>>61645521
And the 850 EVO wont die even if you stress test it for years since 3D NAND lasts years, its literally stacks of it over each other while 2D NAND dies after a few writes.
Also low end Sandisk SSDs suck.
