Fuck gentoo. Only people who like wasting their time use Gentoo.
>>61634370
First post is the best post.
>>61634370
it doesn't take 8 hours on modern hardware though
but it is a meme

I'm not gonna pick poverty KDE, am I?
Install gentoo
Oh, wait...

Well there's your problem. You're using a processor that's over a decade old and generates massive heat even on idle. I've got a T7200 in one of my laptops so I know how it behaves.
I mean seriously, that thing can idle at 50c.

Spin good yarns, lad. I suggest you to use macOS or Windows they don't require a brain.

Found your problem.

what DE is that?

Gentoo is a meme.
If you want a distro with complete control over your system - there is still no better alternative than Slackware. It gives you a lot of choice during installation without being authistic. It can give you any type of package manager you want - you can handle your dependencies manually (slackware way) or you can choose to use a package manager that fetches dependencies for you automaticly.
>>61638571
>Gentoo is autistic
>Something even more complicated is somehow not
>>61638571
Doesn't using a package manager defeat the entire purpose of using slackware to begin with?
The date says 2012 and Gentoo users are about a decade behind reality so my guess would be:
* Conky stats
* OpenBox WM
* Tint2 Panel
stupid question:
how come i always see screenshots of people's terminals where they have some kind of image made from text? When i open my terminal it's just blank.
>>61638902
Use screenfetch or neofetch
>>61638902
>When i open my terminal it's just blank.
That's a good thing, don't let the autism take over.
Gentoo is not a meme, but not everyone may need it. If you run modern hardware, you may be okay with less lightweight distros. But if you, like me, run older hardware, Gentoo is not a meme. My computer running Gentoo boots very much faster than any other distro that I've ever ran. I don't notice a huge difference in launching and running programs though.
>>61639123
The problem is that you'd need good hardware to compile and install everything in reasonable time.
>>61639196
It will take some time to get your system running but your system will be faster in exchange for that. You also don't have to compile all programs yourself, because you can use a binhost.
>>61638952
You're probably pretty autistic already if you're using a terminal.
>>61634370
Install CloverOS if you're too dumb for Gentoo mate.
>>61638902
>how come i always see screenshots of people's terminals where they have some kind of image made from text? When i open my terminal it's just blank.
They have added a line to their .bashrc that runs a program, generally screenfetch, neofetch or archy.
>>61636005
Everybody has to fall for it once before they understand. Install Gentoo, watch Boku no Pico.
>>61639609
>tfw sudo pacman -Syu in .bash_profile
>>61634370
Only packages like xorg or gcc takes a while you dumb shit
>>61639609
people run those before taking a screenshot, it's not like everyone is having it run every time they open a terminal
>>61634370
Get hardware from this century
>>61634370
I installed gentoo a while back, same experience.
>install gentoo out of curiosity
>emerge whatever packages i need
>"wow, this is easy!"
>go to update
>have to compile everything
>have no idea what the fuck is going on, the documentation is basically shit
I knew gentoo was recommended as a meme, but you'd think that if you're going to make an OS, you'd make it at least somewhat usable. It's made for productivity, after all.
>>61641539
Did you even setup proper parallel merges and makeopts at all? The only thing taking long are browsers. everything else is done in seconds if you didn't fall for the intel meme.
>>61639415
How?
>>61638822
There is no purpose to using Slackware.
If you find it useful, use it. If you don't, don't.
And it comes with a package manager by default, slackpkg.
>>61635819
>Not using Sabayon linux
>>61639123
How many times a day would you have to sit in front of your PC and watch it boot another distro to make up for the time it takes you to install and maintain gentoo?
>>61641712
I'm sure this sounded better in your head.
At least you tried.
>>61634370
shit os
>>61641214
I used to do that for a quick check when logging into my server. Turns out screenfetch is a slow piece of shit, so I moved to w instead
Use the cloverOS binary repo
>>61634370
Usually I'd just say Install gentoo, but what now?

I use AMD and I find that fucking stupid. I can compile something like chrome or vstudio in 30 seconds.

on arch btw

wew lad, how could anybody possibly use this... rather install a distro with a shitton of preinstalled bs and remove 60% of it + have major updates every two years
