This is all the more reason why I think Apple products are only for rich people.

This is something. So I'm being a real nice guy right now. Family are over and they're like "anon is the computer guy, he can fix our broken second-hand iPhone."

The phone just turns on, you see the grey apple icon, then it shuts off.

I don't know a lot about iPhones, more of an Android guy. So I go to try to fix this like an Android guy would by trying to hold down buttons to get to a Recovery Menu where I can Factory Reset the device. This iPhone has no such menu :>

So I actually went and installed iTunes on my pure Windows setup to reset the phone using it and this is what I get. All that I can think to tell them now is "go to the apple store and buy a new one"

Is there anything I can do? It won't verify the installation, hangs, and gets this message. The phone won't boot up.

Also has anyone gotten APFS running on a macbook pro 2011 or similar? The installer didn't offer it, disk utility in recovery mode didn't let me and when I forced it through the command line it took a simple fsck to corrupt the entire thing, everything was slow though so it was unusable. Luckily I had backups. I'm guessing that the 8.1 macbook pro isn't supported yet.

There is a Reader on the back like most chink phones. It's ogre. Same design from 2014 with a bigger screen otherwise. Pretty disappointing.
I did not enjoy having no 3.5mm jack and mediocre battery life.
Switched a few weeks ago to a G6.
Yeah OS is not as polished, but the phone overall feels more capable.
Time to jump the ship. Apple is Nokia 10 years ago.
