So im stuck between gnome and kde plasma which one is better? What other guis are you guys using for arch??
plasma because I told you so
>>61618045
Use MATE
KDE is way more customisable, but Gnome is more stable
Both are good choices and would be my top 2 recommendations for a full featured DE
>>61618045
Try lumina my friend
>>61618045
Try X11 or Wayland
my favorite gooey is ios. it just works
meme3 gaps
aM i BaNnEd?
>>61618045
>implying you have a choice
i3
>>61618045
Plasma because I don't need systemd on to run it. GNOME because it's actually stable without all the bugs that KDE is known for.
>>61618909
how does all that dark theme shit not hurt your eyes?
ROX-desktop.
Gnome because is the standard.

of what exactly?
Stay well the fuck away from GNOME.
Pick KDE, MATE or xfce.
Gnome3 has some very nice extensions. Between that and Gnome Shell (gnome-do) I can't imagine any other desktop window manager being as good at enabling productivity. Maybe not the prettiest thing (unless you like minimalism).
>>61618045
xfce4
>>61619883
this, xfce is lightweight, customizable and looks good. Also it's a traditional desktop meant to be used with a keyboard / mouse combination (mouse not necessary, everything can be bound to key combinations) instead of fucking touchscreen garbage like gnome or unity. Also it doesn't have the tiling autism
>>61619883
Xfce has not had any meaningful development for years. It's aging rapidly, and they are not having luck porting I over to gtk3.
>>61619955
xfce4 is the best thing there is
it's not a gui its a desktop environment
>>61618045
use i3

Dutch are wooden shoe wearing, windmill building eurotrash.
Aaaaaah why do peole use KDE? I do not understand it's fucking atrocious.

FVWM
>In 1993, Robert Nation, during his work analyzing acoustic signatures for the United States Department of Defense, began hacking twm with the intent of simultaneously reducing memory usage and adding support for virtual desktops. Already known for his rxvt terminal emulator, Nation worked on reducing the memory consumption of his new window manager. Deciding to test FVWM's reception, on June 1, 1993, he bundled it with a rxvt release.
I also think twm, the standard for X11, is good with xterm.

There isn't much it needs

They seem like nice folks

This
After I figured out that openSUSE is the best distro for KDE and disabling triple buffering I really like this shite. Now I need to put some time on customizing it though.
>>61618045
MATE usually plays well with arch desu, but I'd go with gnome if you have to pick from those two.
>>61618922
It's supposed to not hurt your eyes
>>61618265
Hell yeah! This.
>>61618045
gnome
>>61618045
If you can handle having systemd, Gnome is the way to go. If you want a tiling window manager, I'd suggest i3 or xmonad for easiest configs.
>>61618265
actually, my best i3 experience was on ubuntu, not arch. On arch, i3 didn't allow me to use tap-to-click on my laptop at all, which is a must since my clickers are almost dead.

>On arch, i3 didn't allow me to use tap-to-click on my laptop
Pretty sure this has nothing to do with i3, son. My experience with this issue was solved by either switching between synaptics or xf86-input-synaptics.
>>61618045
GNOME is alright, XFCE is really nice too, if you combine Arch with XFCE you'll get the 2nd lightest system realistically possible.
>>61620755
Except that gtk2 is no longer supported by its devs ( it has been superseded for a while). Xfce literally can't change even if it wanted because its built on a deck of cards.
>>61622929
>>61623544
Yup, nothing to do with i3. You have to configure this yourself in your touchpad driver.
