Attach it to new PC, take anything useful (you'd be so surprised what kind of shit you forgot you had and still want to have.)

After that, physically shatter the disk, and into the trash it goes.

If it's 7 years old no, it's not worth the extra 500GB. Storage is dirt cheap these days. I've got 10 terabytes in my home server right now.

Use it till it dies.

You could have it house copies of backups. Perhaps don't even keep it plugged in so it's off the grid entirely. Like back up your OS and some other important files and just keep it in a drawer. If your regular backup fails then you have this as a failsafe

Just physically destroy it. It sounds like you don't want to do anything with it other than destroy it, so do it. Take it apart and smash the thing then burn it for good measure.
