So I got nowhere last thread, so I'm gonna try my luck again in this thread.

So the stabilizers on my keyboard are more unstable than my foreseeable future, is there any way of reducing the amount of play in a stabilizer or how to just replace it without desoldering everything?
>webm familiar
>>
>>61602184
Depends on what you're after. It could be one of those new Model Fs, it could be an Ergodox with Matias clickies, it could be a Topre board, or it could be something completely different.

Or if you don't wanna go down any rabbit holes, and just want a good keyboard, and like compact form factors, then the tada68 is probably endgame.

Probably gonna order a tada68 from taobao today, which switch should I get?

I once tried a couple of keyboards in a store, liked how a linear switch felt, hated how (I think Logitech) tactile switches felt. I'm gonna use it for gamedev and slight gaymeng. I hear tactile switches are better for this,
but the shitty ones I tried felt very light and very membrane like.

Should I get a stiffer tactile switch (blue?), or just go with linear and get black?
>>
>>61603498
>tada68
excellent choice

i personally have them with gateron blues, very good and not inconsistent at all, people who shittalk about that are retards

logitech has custom switches called romer g and they are indeed shitty, you cant compare them with gat blues

so yeah go with blues, or greens if you like heavier switches
>>
>>61603498

How do you order from taobao? I tried navigating the site, but I wasn't even sure what I was ordering. I'm the anon from a couple of threads ago that got it from KBDfans on ali, with a bunch of missing screws scrambled all through the keyboard.

I'm looking to buy one with some black switches though cause blue is too loud (i'll use it at work).
>>
>>61603040
The thing with every 65% (I think?) layout is that, in trying to resist putting one more column on the right, their Shift key is always tiny (1.0u), which one might or might not care.
Here, they decided to solve that problem by committing an even worse sin: Moving the / key to make space for a normal-sized Shift key.
No way in hell can I stand that. YMMV.

Total noob about mechanical keyboards here. So, let's say I bought a blue switch kb, can I replace them later by let's say black or red switches?
>>

Depends on the keyboard you bought. If its plate mount you have to desolder all the switches, then replace them. If its PCB mount then you can simply open up the switches and replace them. Some high end keyboards come with custom plates that allow you to open them with out deslodering. And some keyboards have hot swapable switches.

>"is there any way of ... Just replacing it without desoldering everything?"

Nice reading comprehension there, champ.
Anyways, they don't seem to want to come out at all, after unlatching them, they feel like they're on the verge of bending or breaking when I try and force them.
I've found nothing on replacing stabilizers as when I try and look it up, I just get stuff on installing them while you make the board itself
>>
>O-rings
When will you manlets learn, the only good sound dampening methods are internal. Get some Cherry silent blacks or Matias quiet clicks in your life.
>>
>>61608086
>can't use google
just replace the stabilizer moron
>>
>>61608101
there are clips that dampen the up and down stroke tho
>>
>>61608308
They only work with certain keycaps, otherwise they'll only dampen the up stroke. Internally dampened always works regardless of keycap choice.
>>
>>61603339
I've got bad news for you bub. Cherry stabilizer are supposed to wobble a bit like that. Its costar stabilizers that you want
>>
>>61608329
>Doesn't work on high profile keycaps

>>
>>61608902
wrong
>>
>>61608428
The ones on my Razer keyboard doesn't wobble nearly this much. It at least helps keep the spacebar relatively stiff horizontally.
>>

>>
>>61609328

>>

>>
I want Outemu purple switches on my Tada68. Should I bother with desoldering all the switches and leds or just build a new one from a kit?
I've never done this before and a bit nervous about damaging the board somehow.
>>
>>61605785
>Which would you get
None of them because those are all Razor switches.

If I'd get a keyboard with one of them thrown after me for free then I guess I'd take the orange switches because they seem the most like the mx browns. I really do like the mx brown switches with o-rings because they have the tactile bump for dat feel and they are pretty quiet. This being said, the "green" ones - which are cheap clones of mx blue's - are probably also nice if you enjoy that click click clicking sound. I do have a mx blue keyboard and I enjoy typing on it - but I only use that keyboard when I'm alone. I guess the yellow switches (like mx red) are the only one of those that I really wouldn't want, if you're not getting the tactile feel then you might as well just use a membrane keyboard.
>>

What kind of color settings are you girls using on your RGB keyboards?

I'm playing around with my Duck Duck Shine 5 and I can't decide what to go with. I really do like that all green look but I also like to mix colors around. The picture related is the two color profiles I've created (it let's you store two custom profiles).

I'm not a fan of the animated effects, btw. I do prefer to have the keys be static and not randomly changing all the time.

Feel free to show pictures of the various color schemes you have to I can get some inspiration.

Downloading keyboard profiles onto the keyboard is fine in theory but the software only works with that Windows thing and I use GNU/Linux. That's partly why I went with the duck duck shine: You setup everything on the keyboard itself. It's a bit odd compared to using software but it works with any OS.

I would never buy ABS caps no matter how good they look. 4 months after use and they look like shit. Someone in a thread some time ago told me that GMK ABS is the best and that it doesn't shine up but I think that anon was full of shit. GMK doesn't have some magical ABS plastic.

Also, that pic looks weird as fuck. I'm 99.9% sure that's a render and those caps definitely don't look like Cherry origin.

Anyway, GMK just can't into PBT.
>>
>>61614132
GMK sets last about 1-2 years without shine. As for the profile its a custom one called SCMYD
>>
>>61605613

I just pushed it all the way down and the teeth just work now. I will post a thread soon including before and after pictures, along with webms of the power washing.

>GMK sets last about 1-2 years without shine.
I find that hard to believe. ABS is ABS. there are no different grades of ABS... that's not how polymer chemistry works. They might be able to extend the non-shine phase by a more agressive texture but even that will wear off.

> As for the profile its a custom one called SCMYD
Thanks. Never heard of it. Looks like shit tho.

yes there are

They're cherry profile

I want to buy a TADA68 cause programability.
Do you know if someone does a Spherical keycap set who has a Caps of the same size of left ctrl?
I hate caps lock in the normal position, but also I hate mislabeled keycaps.

Even the sales promo says they're Cherry. That anon is full of shit. The profile he named doesn't even show up on any search engine. That render was done by a fucking retard. None of the angles match the cherry profile rows.
Ignore everything he says.

Will you want to replace the caps? They're good POMs so a priori there's no reason to.

If you then end up spending $100+ on some meme colourway you'll probably also be able to afford a more standard keyboard to go with them.

Are old apple boards like m0116 and AEK good to use as-is? Decent condition ones hover around $60, plus add the cost of hasu's converter $40, would it even be worth it?

If its very nice, then yes. They have great caps and if it was stored in good conditions, then it will have good feeling switches as well.

Remedied it.
Folded paper tabs inserted reduce the gap without adding much friction if any at all.
So much less noise and wobble.
>>
>>61617367
>What about gateron browns?
"brown" anything is a synonym for shit. Pick red if you're a gaymer, blue if you care about typing and black/white if you're a fat whale with sausage fingers.

I can't be the only one who prefers mx brown/brown clones to most switches. I've tried topre 45g, mx black blues and reds. Only switch I prefer to browns is matias quiet clicks, but those are plagued with key chatter.

I wanted mx reds with a light tactile bump, just enough to prevent accidental key presses, and browns are just that. Blues and topres were too stiff, topre 45g feels closer to 55g mx blacks which is too much for me.
>>
>>61618479
>also i'm a decent touch typist, 120-150 wpm. A lot of switches feel more premium than browns but I'm fastest with them, followed by blues.
>>
>>61618419
How does that not add that much friction? Seems like it would be awful.
But glad you got it fixed finally.
>>
>>61618590
Probably the woobling was high enough to literally train his muscles to don't give a fuck to increased friction.
Also, it can be coated with graphite.
>>
>>61618590
It's that the paper doesn't touch the stabilizer when it's centered, it just makes the gap in which the stem can move smaller, so it has less play, but still some.
I've been mashing on the key to type this and there's no texture that I can detect, still buttery smooth gateron girth.
Now I just need to lube the metal stabilization bar to fix the pinging sound from the rebound.

>>61618792
I guess I should elaborate. Are they good for bottoming out while typing? Can anyone confirm sound being louder than reds?

Realistically Id avoid them because of Greetech switches, BUT If I were to choose one id go with a tactile switch.
Tactility is just something essential for a mech keyboard imo. Linears dont do it for me.

My opinion is one should look into all the other layouts before getting a full-size board.
But otherwise, yeah, Ducky is solid.

If you like the layout this Tada68 kit for 50$ is a good one imo.
You only have to buy the switches and leds separately.

looking for a board to buy in the UK with:
>cherry mx clears
>arrow keys as a minimum

this seems to literally narrow it down to 1 keyboard, the WASD code. looking at ANSI doesn't seem to give me much more choice, maybe 3 keyboards or so, none of which seem worth it over the WASD. am i missing something here?
