Great idea?
Horrible idea?

My primary interest and undergraduate degree are in science by the way, but my current job and new job title would be developer. There's a danger I may become the code monkey bitch. Or its a great segue back to science? We all know how bad scientists are at developing software so we all know I have the potential to make myself extremely useful to them.

Can anyone help me understand why Chromium returns with linker errors if I attempt to build it when the only modifications I make to it are changing

# Copyright 2016 The Chromium Authors. All rights reserved.

import("//build/config/chromecast_build.gni")
import("//build/config/features.gni")

# Enable basic printing support and UI.
- enable_basic_printing = !is_chromecast && !is_ios
+ enable_basic_printing = false

# Enable printing with print preview. It does not imply
# enable_basic_printing. It's possible to build Chrome with preview only.
- enable_print_preview = !is_android && !is_chromecast && !is_ios
+ enable_print_preview = false

- use_cups = (is_desktop_linux || is_mac) && !is_chromecast

}

It builds successfully with no modifications but changing the flags to false causes linker problems.

well there's your problem right there.

Your using the wrong operating system to easily recursively convert hundreds of directories of wma's into mp3's.

I suggest you write a simple python script that recursively opens each directory starting at a base and then runs ffmpeg (the windows verison) on them to convert

You can remove bloatware, backup the whole system, install a few more utilities that depend on root (xposed don't work on nougat yet though), have a Linux chroot, get around some app's trial limitations.
Downsides are, um... some apps/carriers might get angry at you for doing it, might require a custom recovery to add su to /system/bin (not a bad thing, just more steps to get it working).
They pop up a dialog whenever an app request root so they won't let malicious apps gain root and robo-dial your mom or anything.

Sort of. They may be able to tell what pages/files you access based on their size, timing, and the type of traffic. Figured I'd try just one more transfer program before contacting them.
Turned out FileZilla just sucks ass (it doesn't support sequential download so it doesn't saturate the connection).
>>
>>61596404
>sequential download
You're full of shit
>>
>>61596421
Also now that I bothered reading the wiki:
>FileZilla doesn't support multi-segmented downloading but you should be able to download multiple files at the same time by default. You might find that each subsequent file downloads at the same speed as the first file. In other words, you may download at 1MB/s, start a second file and find that is also downloading at 1MB/s - this means you can pull (at least) 2MB/s from the server. Since Feral won't be throttling you, something is likely happening out of Feral's network. You can either download multiple files if appropriate to max out total transfer speed, or, if that's not appropriate (because you have one bigger file for example), try a program like CuteFTP Pro.

If by "productivity" you mean basic web browsing, than pretty much anything with 512MB to 1 GB of ram will do. Opening 100's of tabs won't be something you can do, and vp9 on youtube will rape your PC, but otherwise basic computing is very easy. I'm assuming you're going to use a linux distro for this. If by "productivity" you mean microsoft office then you have to install windows and you'll be looking at way more RAM and a laptop CPU from the last 3-4 years. Windows 10 will gobble up shit tons of resources, as windows does, but it's at least power efficient, so you don't need a bigger battery.

You are. Depends on the features you want though. If FreeNAS doesn't have everything you want, check out Nas4Free. Bottomline is if you have no unix experience and you're looking for a light weight, powerful OS with everything you want preinstalled for a media server, then FreeNAS is basically what you want. ZFS with FDE, support for NFS, samba,, sshfs, and whatever other remote filesystem you want. Managed from a webui, ssh access, tty, whatever.

Those used laptops are still being used for a reason, there are people who still use 11 year old thinkpads.
You asked for a cheap laptop, that is what you get, and it is actually better than anything you can find for that price.

For $200 you only can get shitty Atom/Celeron laptops, with a thinkpad you get a 2nd gen I5 with 4-8GB RAM and a quality product (X220).

When people complain about reddit spacing it's not in situations where the content would become a 3x5 block of text if combined. It's generally when it's just a couple of sentences, each with a different paragraph. Just imagine my comment being 3 paragraphs, it's fucking retarded.

Its simple, dont cheap in your PSU and avoid Corsair, EVGA and Seasonic are good.
Avoid AMD CPUs if you are going to play games and emulate but if you will do work on it such as video editing then they are fine.
Avoid Seagate HDDs, get WD or HGST.
Dont buy cheap motherboards, specially if you will overclock.
Avoid 2D NAND SSDs, get a 850 EVO over anything.

Should I use my real name on my personal github account?

On one hand I'll likely have (or want) to show it to various employers and shit, and I don't want to look unprofessional.
On the other I might end up contributing to various projects and I don't necessarily want to advertise my real name everywhere.

Is there any sort of established convention? Will employers look down on a not-very-professional github username (just like they would for an unprofessional email address, for example) or is it accepted practice to use whatever you want (within reasonable bounds)?

So I've read about this "tape mod" that's done to LGA775 CPUs to trick the computer into thinking they have a faster FSB, and in turn overclocking the processor. Most commonly done on a Q6600, from what I've read, works well for OEM motherboards that don't allow for overclocking via BIOS. That being said, would this mod be doable on LGA771 CPUs, specifically the E5450? I've read about it being done on the E5430 and the X5470, but nothing about the E5450. I assume that the same pin(s) would have to be taped off to work.

Mobile broadband.
>Would power supply to a powerful rig and multiple monitors cost too much in gas?
As the other anon said, solar panels and a battery.

Probably nothing that specific. It should be easy enough to script.

How many levels are we talking? If it's just 1 search *.mp3, cut everything and add it to the higher folder.

What year do you think it is? Just get a phone plan with a decent amount of data, shit hardly costs anything and 4G is plenty fast for shitposting.

if you're organizing the go all the way and use a dual pane file manager to sort everything into its proper subdirectory instead of just dumping it all in a single folder. after all isn't that kinda how you ended up at this point?
>>
>>61598552
how would you make the whole thing self sufficient to pay for data and fuel though?

Does anyone use Torguard or similar VPN? I'm wondering how you configure it so it's only active for a single website.

What should I be looking at for in-ear headphones for about £30ish?
I have a decent pair of over ear headphones but if I'm going out somewhere where I would have to leave them around my neck (eg walking to the pub) I used some cheap in-ear ones that came with an old Samsung, which have now broken.

Just spring for something like shure se215.

Otherwise, you're just going to be asking again when you're next set of cheap monitors break.

No, everything's organized already. It's just that having a bunch of albums organized to 2-3 subfolders, and also a subfolder named mp3 is kinda redundant.

There are like, 200 folders named mp3, each at the bottom of their own album filepath. In each case, I'd prefer the contents of the folder be there, rather than there being one extra folder to go into.

Okay, so say I have a single SSD in my build, with no mechanical drives. Say that SSD is a measly 256GB SATA3 drive, maybe an 850 Pro or something. Because of the limited space, I can't just save stuff whenever I want.
However, say I setup a storage system on the network to save stuff, and the drive letter is 'H'. Rather than me saving it to one folder on the drive, then manually sorting it, and rather than saving each individual file to specific folders, is there a way to have, for example, all jpg/png go to the 'H:\Extra\Pictures\Untitled'? I'd like to automatically have it done because >muh autism
>>
>>61599204
This is something you'd do with a scheduled job. Every so often, you scan the drive for images and move them. Otherwise, you're doing some serious fucking with your filesystem that will fuck you in the end.
>>
>>61599355
meh, there are browser extensions that download to specified folders based on file type
