Need a bit of advice I think.

Currently using an 810 with those Romer switches but tried out a K70 with Cherry Reds at the weekend and really liked the feel of them and the K70 itself. I type and game a lot, would I be better with Cherry Browns or would Cherry Reds be what I need? Thanks
>>
>>61581164
for gaming and stuff that require a lot of tactile response I'd actually go with blues over reds. browns are slightly more tactile still than reds but blues are really responsive
>>
>>61581164
romers and browns feel somewhat similar. if you want reds then get a cheap keyboard with them first that way if you end up not liking the lack of tactile feedback you won't feel bummed out

From (late) previous thread...

I need new keycaps. Mine are all shiny like this. Shiny keycaps are fucking disgusting to touch.

Here's my list of requirements:

- cheap (don't want expensive $100+ Massshit caps)
- PBT (don't want them to become shiny again)
- Cherry profile (I know it's not the best but it's what I'm used to)
- have legends. in English
- darker in coloration (so if there's some small amount of dirt, it won't show up).
- enough keycaps for a TKL (don't need a fullsize)

What does /mkg/ suggest? Thanks so much gents.

EnjoyPBT has some of the best PBT keycaps you can buy, but they are pricey at ~70 bucks. There are cheaper sets at around 40 bucks if you want cheaper printing. If you want dirt cheap PBT then get tai-hao since those sell for around 20-30 bucks, but the quality isn't as good
>>

yeah, but are they cherry profile or OEM?
>>

I bought some $70 dsa pbt keycaps, they were noted for their powder grit. STILL SHINY TURNS OUT I'M JUST OILY. might wanna make sure this isn't your real problem. are you typing with french fry hands because there is only so much pbt can do for you

Not him, but I do have a condition where my skin is very oily, and the PBT keycaps on my model M still aren't shiny even after three years of heavy use. But IBM PBT keycaps are on another level compared to chink PBT
>>
>>61581340
I've got a G&B ducky one 100%, I am still getting nominal shine after 8 hours a day of use :(
>>
>>61581380
see i'm the OP poster, thats my M and it has a bit of shine on some of the ANSI keys. none of the white yet though... could be a dye issue? idk

>>
>>61581338
>they were noted for their powder grit
YES, that's what I want. Gritty keycaps don't slip and feel nicer. Which ones do you recommend?

Are all chink PBT keycaps gritty?

And please, give me links to some cheap (~$50 if possible PBT cherry caps). Thanks.

PS: I know DSA is all the rage, and deservedly so.. it's a good profile that can accommodate customization, but I want cherry because I've used cherry for 10 years and my hands are used to it too well. I know that if I was forced, I'd accommodate after a week but I don't want to.
>>
>>61581382
Interesting since I have a white and grew ducky one and after 1 year of use the keycaps haven't developed any shine yet.

I'm probably oily. Also dying keys is fun and easy.

here is a perfect example of how iDye poly dye is in every way superior to RIT liquid dye. RIT yeah sure you keep the legends, but you boil your pbt for hours to only get a few shades. 1 minute in some RIT and your key is completely dyed.

Thanks anon!

I have another silly question for all you experts.

So I found a PBT keycap set in OEM/Filco profile for fucking $9.50 (not a typo). Nice legends at and it's dark grey in color.
Cheapest Cherry PBT I managed to find is $50 like this anon above linked.

How different is OEM from Cherry? Judging by this pic, it looks really fucking similar. I'd feel stupid paying extra $40 for something I can't even tell the difference.

What should I do /mkg/? Cheap out, go for OEM PBT and if there's any difference, get used to it or just pay extra $40 for Cherry profile?

I know literally everyone is going to yes because this is /mkg/, but trying to get them is severely limiting the choices I have for a new board. Toothbrush yes, but the wipes could leave unwanted residue all over your board.
A very lightly damp rag with a super small amount of dish soap (optional) will do fine for keycaps if you want to do it kind of quick. Also compressed air works for cleaning the inside quickly once the caps are off.

Steelseries 6gv2 or gigabyte k83?

Both cost $70, both have cherry switches (steelseries has black, gigabyte has red)
>>
>>61583495
Even though the others are correct (it's not a Japanese but a weeb keyboard), Japanese does indeed not use/need spaces.
E.g. here is a japanese full width dot: "。". It's one single character with an enormous amount of space, so regular spaces are not needed. Same for other punctuation: 、)(
>>
>>61586413
>、)(
Oh wow, something converted my full width parenthesis to normal width parenthesis? Maybe these stay untouched: "「text」"

I just switched to Cherry from OEM. Biggest difference is Cherry caps sit lower than the OEM ones. I like the feel more, but it's not really that huge a difference imo.
>>
>>61587720
I've heard a lot of people using O-rings and crashpads with the OEM keys, have you tried any of these?

I'm not sure what I currently use atm. My noppoo choc mini I believe has the cherry profile but I could be wrong.
>>
>>61588218

Neither. Don't know what a crash pad is. Like a wrist rest? My wrists float when I type, so I have no need for that.
>>
>>61588238
I assume he means the little foam squares with circular holes in the middle that you can stick on top of the switch to get the same effect as o-rings.

>Introducing Tai-Hao’s brand-new Cubic profile: a hybrid with a feel all its own. As if Cherry and OEM profile had a child, the Cubic profile features the same height as OEM, but with square-shaped keys, just like the name suggests. Made with doubleshot ABS, these keys are durable and long lasting, but they don’t feel quite like before. Still smooth, yet more grippy than other ABS keycaps, they’re designed to help you maintain your grip on the keys whether you’re gaming or typing up a lengthy email—not to mention they’re available in four eye-catching colorways to suit your style.

That looks opposite of comfy to me.... but what the fuck do I know.

>Yes? But It would look like shit if done wrong, plus the legends would wear off if they are not good dye sub or double shots.
I'd mostly like to "restore" my spacebar since it shines the most for some reason. No legends to speak off. Not sure how I could make it look better.

They wish. Its actually vortex and Ducky. There are other manufacturers that do a mix of PBT and ABS/POM instead of pure PBT

Hey /mkg/ I just picked up a DB Power keyboard the old version. RGB Blue switches. I bought it for $42 off ebay was it worth it? This is what the keyboard looks https://www.amazon.com/DBPOWER-Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlit-Switches/dp/B01AXV7FV2/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1501207011&sr=8-7&keywords=dbpower+keyboard like I'll update you on monday with pictures I've taken. Was it worth it? Only thing I'm slightly bummed out about is that there is no software for customizing the RGB. The keyboard just has presets. How'd I do /mkg/? Does anyone else have one?
>>
>>61599607
You made a bit of a blunder since the Victop I500 is cheaper and better, but if you're the kind of faggot who needs LGBT lights on his keyboard then you probably did fine.

Also get off my board.
>>
>>61599671
I didn't get it for RGB Anon I got it for single color red or white. I don't want it for RGB. Can I stay please. I got it because my friend has the same one and we want to match because said keyboard is really rare.
>>
>>61599607
If the keyboard you bought is the one you linked then you did pretty bad. Not only does it look like shit, the LEDs aren't RGB and as you said you can only select presets
>>
>>61599688
Wow you really are a fag. I was only kidding before, but now I feel bad.
>>
>>61599690
I only want it for Red or White I think I did fine? What's all the hate I don't even want RGB It's just an eyesore and waste of money for buying RGB Products. If I wanted RGB I would've been a shitfag and by a Razer Chroma product.
>>
>>61599708
Did you read my post? The LEDs on the keyboard you linked aren't RGB at all.

>Which one is better, cherry or oem... and why?
I don't really have an opinion. I haven't used OEM in a long time and the Cherry caps I just got today.
>>
>>61599330
Hm, well you could always try it. I mean, its already shiny.
Just take some 500+ grit to it and see how it fairs.
Also, I would do the entire spacebar though so it doesn't have a spot where you did it.
Post a pic of what it looks like currently.

the steelseries has a non-standard layout

>Which one is better, cherry or oem... and why?
cherry is comfier and looks a lot nicer, but OEM isn't that bad. if you have the choice go for cherry but I don't think most people actually have strong opinions about which is better. it is "known" that OEM is shit, but it is also cheaper.

but if you're mixing with DSA, cherry is closer because it's lower.

I've spilled beer and other liquids on my noppoo choc mini over the years. Not always directly on the keyboard but a few keys haven't gotten sticky before.

luckily the keyboard still works fine and the only key that's sticky still is my right control.

I know this isn't a question for a 'build it yourself' enthusiast thread like this one, but I've been looking at two mechanical keyboards, one from kingston and one from rosewill. Both very subtle, black on black, tenkeys, etc, but is there a difference in build quality?
>>
Has anyone here bought a 5.5u spacebar keycap before? If so where did you purchase it? And what are yours thoughts on said keycap
>>
>>61601105
Have got sticky*
>>
>>61601069

I have been told that.
I don't get it to be honest.
It has cherry switches. It has a nice wrist rest.
It's the only gaming keyboard that doesn't look like a retarded fucking abomination.
Media keys are (were ;_;) really useful.

I couldn't get the good mechanical ones in my country anyway and didn't want to import.

Hello guys, my first post here, so let's hope this goes well. The Logitech K120 is the best keyboard I have ever tried. It only cost me 8£ brand new. Why is it good you ask? I shall tell you.

Well, first of all: this keyboard is from Logitech, which is undoubtedly the best keyboard manufacturer today.

It is a rather common keyboard, yes; but because it is a Logitech, somehow it doesn't feel cheap. It's like the brand itself makes a crappy keyboard turn into a great one. I don't know, Logitech has always made me feel comfortable with cheaper products.

The keys are superbly well distributed, and your fingers won't touch the surrounding keys like some other ones I've tried. The keys are also not very soft, nor very hard to press down on. You know, this keyboard makes it just right, so that you can actually take advantage of the impulse that the rebounding keys give you.

This keyboard makes you feel like gravity is actually working WITH you, rather that against you.

Another thing I absolutely love about it, is the space bar. It is just the right size, and not too small or too big like on some other crappy keyboards from other manufacturers. The space bar is the most balanced key in the whole keyboard, it sits right at the center, and you can actually use it without looking at the keyboard. I mean, that's just brilliant design.

It's an USB keyboard. This makes it perfect for use with modern computers, and even laptops and netbooks. No more using that old crappy PS/2 port. We're in 2017, people.

I could be here all day, but in the end, I just wanted to share with you my experience with this marvelous piece of peripheral engineering. I recommend this keyboard to anyone.
