Learning Java is fine because the JVM itself is very useful. Once you're done with it learn JPython or Clojure (lisp) or anything else that suits you

Do you want to make some easy money while you build your CV and career in order to become a well paid manager? Go with Java. Do you want to live forever in your mother's basement shitposting all day on /g/ about Linux, freedom, botnets and gay porn? Go with C, rust, Haskell and all the other meme dead languages
