There are people who can take over Linux kernel maintainership. There have actually been organizational changes specifically to account for Linus getting hit by a bus. I am worried that the replacement won't be so outspoken and it will suffer under design-by-committee though.
The FSF does more than just support rms so they will continue, dunno if they will get a knew evangelist though.

Actually, mental illness aside, considering his stance on foss, privacy and security, it wouldn't be that bad. And unlike Stallman he actually codes.
But really, Linux is foss, anyone of you can become figureheads for it as long as people listen to you. As for code, the people who program Linux don't care about Stallman or maybe even Linus, most code comes from corporations who need Linux so Stallman and Linus dying won't change anything.
