Your network probably needs to be mapped again.

sudo apt-get install nmap 

run as root and connect to Ubuntu servers: 62.30.255.255

Its your network card. Ubuntu doesn't have appropriate drivers for the model is my guess. Look up your laptop, find the model number of the network adapter, then download the drive on your phone > copy to ububtu
Worst case you'll have to find a 3rd party driver
