i've never seen a concrete example where you would save more than $10 or so maybe. it will probably take longer to arrive since the item has to be shipped to the agent first before they can send it to you. with taobao you're paying the chinese retail price + agent fees. kbdfans sources items straight from the manufacturer and sells them directly to you so in theory there is less overhead with kbdfans.

>alu plate that flexes

are you one of those memesters that think the material of the plate actually makes a huge impact on the feel?

The point of diminishing returns starts at aluminum, i know because i own several keyboards with different plates and it makes no difference.
>>
>>61555001
>Notably, the plate is made with aluminum instead of steel to provide a small amount of flex with every keypress. Steel plates tend to be very firm and unrelenting and bottoming out constantly through use can be tiring.
https://input.club/whitefox/
>>
>>61555001
construction does matter more, but stainless steel plates objectively have less flex than alu

when i press down on a key on an alu plate keyboard with a design like that, the whole area dips about a mm, when i press down a key on a stainless plate build, there's barely any dip

That's just marketing bullshit to make you buy into shit build quality and cheap materials at a premium price. In the end it matters little unless you go carbon fiber which just alters the sound profile to make it sound more deeply hollow. Never buy into whitefox keyboards.

I remember the F keys being essential in Windows (F2 to rename and shit) while pretty much novelty-tier in macOS (just media buttons and brightness and such).
Which, I'm sure, is also party why so many are perfectly fine with 60-65% boards.
>>
>>61555381
Lots of apps use F keys for shortcuts. They're also useful for making your own shortcuts.

For example, the F2 key isn't really a windows shortcut, it's an explorer shortcut. Similarly, the file explorers I've used in linux support f2 to rename by default.
>>
>People who can't even type properly

>>61555381
With light F key usage a modifier is fine. Then there's software and games that go crazy on alt/shift/ctrl keys on your whole keyboard including F keys.

So I've seen some DIY keyboards with the same TKL layout as my James Donkey 619, that is, the F row being closer to the number row than normal.
Are there housings/casings/enclosures for this kind of layout?

>>
>>61572105
They're there tho
>>
>>61572206
Where?
>>
>>61572106
Topres were designed as a switch for industrial use. Since they are capacitive they are far more durable and last longer then cherry MX despite them having a rubber dome. The high build quality means that they cost a lot more then traditional contact based switches. The topre patent also expired so now the market has been hit by clones. As far as the feel goes they have a light tactile feedback with a very soft bottoming out. Since they aren't a membrane switch the actuation happens at the very top.
>>
>>61572214
It used to be top row layer two on my set up, but since the keyboard is programmable I switched it around so that F keys are on layer one, and I use a function layer 2 lock where caps lock used to be so I get my numbers back

Esports teams are usually sponsored so they'll use whatever the company gives them. Then the companies can advertise their keyboards are used in real esports, which is why you have faggots asking about Romer-Gs every thread despite being a terrible switch for both gaming and typing.
>>
>>61571068
Actuation distance is so low that I kept getting mis-clicks just from resting my fingers on the keys. You'd have to hover over the keyboard instead, which gets tiring.

For typing however I found it to be better than MX Reds. The force curve being similar to MX Blacks probably helps.

membrane rubber dome is absolute shit, and
the peripherals do matter for professional level competitive gaming, the sponsorship can influence a choice between equivalent peripherals like razer deathadder vs steelseries rival, but there's no way a top level player would use some $5 chink mouse unironically

See, this IS a chink clone. Back then these keyboards cost like $1000 in today's money. The $350 one is very much a chink clone.
Capacitive buckling springs are inherently pretty expensive. The fact that no chinks have cloned them yet seems pretty suspicious desu.

Anyway I was asking about the repair kit thingies specifically, I already made up my mind on the keyboard itself.

I was interested in the project, until I saw this.
Its a shame really since I've wanted to try out capacitive buckling springs and compare it to buckling springs over membrane.
>>
>>61577449
That also made me kind of mad. I was wanting the OG flip out feet.
>>
>>61577449
You mean the feet or "made in china"?

You can buy a few different replacement feet at no extra cost when purchasing a keyboard, and if you expected it to be built anywhere other than China and not cost like $1000 then you're a dumbass.

Feet are placebo on keyboards anyway.

they can probably get the price down by ditching joe since they ship them to him and he inspects them and takes a part of the profit. and instead of being strict replicas of the old model f's they could make a more minimalist type design like the buckling spring equivalent of tada68
>>
>>61578045
Agreed. But, if I was in Joe's shoes I would probably do the same thing.
>>
>>61578045
I wouldn't expect the price to drop so drastically though. Even if they switch to plastic construction the capacitive switches will still keep costs high.
>>

I mean apparently he is still losing out on this (or might lose out, depending on how many orders there end up being) due to paying for all the tooling himself. At least that's what he claims

And according to his website there's been maybe $350k in orders so far. If the tooling cost maybe $100k, he'd only be breaking even right now even if he was taking a 33% share (meaning the board would actually cost around $200 to produce and send to him, which sounds kind of unlikely personally).

looking to buy a mech keyboard, would prefer it under 100, around the 70-75 range if not cheaper. not looking for ricer lightups though i would enjoy some backlighting as i spend a lot of time typing in the dark. prefer blue switches and either TKL or full.

so 3d print a stand? Those two black holes on the keyboard is what they were originally made for.

Conspicuously framing a firearm next to completely unrelated equipment is the faggiest shit in the universe..

It would be just as annoying as slipping your keyboard into a photo of your gun collection.

Anyone know the quality on these acrylic cases? Can they come misshapen or warped?

Is there an alternate keycaps that fits the TADA that:
- is dark (black preferred, but any dark color is OK)
- has all the right keys (1u right alt, ctrl and win, right size shift, the 4 keys above right arrow (those can be blanks, but must be correct rows)
- isn't made from 0.01mm ABS (if they absolutely must be ABS, they should at least be thick)
- doesn't cost more than $150
- doesn't require paying for a massdrop and waiting 10 years

>>61579177
EnjoyPBT, except for the keys on the right-most row, you're not going to get those in the correct profile.

Cherry Speeds or Kailh Speeds honestly feel as if they're supposed to bottom out. Like it's supposed to have a fast linear press right onto bottom out. It kinda feels like pressing a button on a gamepad, but with more travel, and the only tactility is hitting the bottom.

Disregard the "gaming" bullshit, it's just a linear switch for people who always bottom out their switches.

I need new keycaps. Mine are all shiny like this. Shiny keycaps are fucking disgusting to touch.

Here's my list of requirements:

- cheap (don't want expensive $100+ Massshit caps)
- PBT (don't want them to become shiny again)
- Cherry profile (I know it's not the best but it's what I'm used to)
- have legends. in English
- darker in coloration (so if there's some small amount of dirt, it won't show up).
- enough keycaps for a TKL (don't need a fullsize)

What does /mkg/ suggest? THanks so much gents.

>>
>>61580621
Okay, they look good but are they cherry or OEM? I know these two are similar but I'm really used to cherry and don't want to re-learn anything else. On the sales page,. they don't mention the profile at all.
>>
>>61580745
Which ones? All the enjoypbt sets are Cherry. I don't know about npkc
>>
>>61580796
the cheaper ones. also, I don't wanna pay $80 for keycaps. I'd be happier with $40.
>>
>>61580659
interesting the thread isn't ded. We now have ~4 hours before we 404
>>
>>61580826
So my point is, new thread should be made BEFORE 404

In this general in particular at least half the time the thread dies before the new one has been posted and linked here

Your gonna get a lot of memes with it like three programmable layers, DSA keycaps, MLP colors, 75%, nonstandard keycaps sizes, and an aluminum case

doens't bother me. i'm not going to use anything past one layer and even that is rare

is that the material the keycaps are made out of? why is it bad?

but that's what i want

i think it looks fine and i can get different keycaps later

isn't it only the delete key that is oddball?

Ha
>isn't it only the delete key that is oddball?
prepare for a disappointment, there are 6 non standard keycaps, plus if you get sculpted ones the profiles won't match on three more keys giving you a total of 9 nonstandard keys
>is that the material the keycaps are made out of? why is it bad?
They keycaps are made of PBT which is good, but the profile is DSA.
