Room EQ Wizard house curve file for this curve:
50 0.0
315 -1.0
900 -2.0
2000 -3.0
4000 -4.0
8100 -5.0

Speakers EQ'd to this curve at the listening position sound pretty great. How does a 1.8m cable feel? I've only had experience with a 3m behemoth cable, and obviously not a good experience (kept getting stuck at the chair leg, but eh it's replaceable anyways).

I'm wondering if I should buy a shorter 1.3m one (designed for the IEM) with this. I looked at the review, and apparently the cables feel really nice, but I'm still worried about the length/weight.

I do plan to use these as portable cans (library, coach bus / train) if I can find a more practical case. Dunno if that's advisable, but heck I lugged around a dumb brick T5xx thinkpad before.

It might be small, but it's not really the "take in the pocket everyday" kind of device. It's more the "small enough to move from one room to another, plug into different devices" kind of thing.
It's USB powered, too. And yet it performs really good. Good DAC, flat amp and impressive (for usb) power output that's enough for most headphones out there. And has a combination of input/output/power options that make it really useful.

If you're OK with spending money, it should be ok no matter what you do.
The Fulla2 is a great dac and a good amp. A combo seen done here by a few people is to use fulla2 as dac with magni2 as amp.
I do own the Fulla2 and the modi2u+magni2u stack. I use the former mostly with HD380 Pro at work, and the latter mostly with my HD600 at home, but I've of course tried all combinations of them.
The Magni2 Uber seems a better amp than the fulla2 *only* with the HD600, and *only* at unhealthy loud volumes (not recommended).
The Modi2 Uber is no better than the Fulla2 ever, and its lack of line-in is certainly annoying. I got it for the spdif inputs, which I do use. I might end up getting a sys or similar device at some point in the future, just to take care of that aux input problem.
The plan is to then attach that secondary input to a mixing board, and a lot of analog crap to it, such as my Amiga/C64 computers, game consoles, electronic piano and so on.

I use a sescom a/b switch rather than the sys. One side has my mixer (c64s, n64, etc.) and the other has my dac. Rather than a schiit dac I use a hifime 9018 optical. 122dB SNR and when paired with the magni2u it is amazing. No discernible noise even on high gain with the knob turned up all the way. Pure bliss on my hd800s. The 380s are relegated to the car.

Sound quality is about what you'd expect for a gayming headset, maybe a little better than other ones in it's price range simply because it's a rebranded half decent pair to begin with

Mic is fucking shit and WAY too quiet almost always, even cranked up on everything it was always absurdly quiet. It's really one directional and if your mouth isn't RIGHT on it it will be too quiet and sound terrible

7.1 is a meme and I turned off for absolutely everything, makes gaming sound inaccurate, only good for maybe watching movies, music it just echos things too much

Build quality is decent, only stopped using mine because the white turned to this gross sweat coloured yellow, leather was peeling off and both pairs of earpads were pretty much busted to fuck. First ever headset to make it that far, rest snapped or stopped working in one ear or something, so that's good I guess

The passive noise cancelling of the leather earpads is great though

Better than other gaymer headsets in it's price range but only worth buying on sale as a headphone+mic combo for the same price would end up being way better, even some cheap shit mic you clip on would be less painful to use.

What effects do pad materials have on sound quality? From what I understand open materials like velour lose bass but make things more open and airy and leather increases bass and closes things up.

Are there other nuances to this? For example, what is the effect of shipskin vs cowhide? Angled vs flat? Etc.

Am I the only person who buys in-ear headphones and superglues the earbud tips to the headphone? Whenever I have them loose they always fall off, and a few drops around the outside of the headphone makes them literally never come off, and you can get them off with a bit of force of a pull

Contrary to what >>61556596 said, it's rather the opposite: the HD650 has everything bellow 1Khz boosted by a few dB.
Both need eq to boost the low bass and tame the emphasis in the presence region anyway.

Re-read my post. To turn your HD650 into a HD600, you need to boost everything above 1Khz (or lower everything below 1K, no functional difference).

This guy is correct. If you move the black lines on >>61556596 downwards then the bass aligns perfectly with HD600 and the treble becomes significantly lower than HD600. A bass cut or a treble boost to the HD650 will have an equivalent effect.

I know the dt990 is extremely bright regardless but I just upgraded my amp and I think I know where at least some of the hate comes from.
Very few amps can actually do the 25mw at 250ohm that they need, like the fiio e10k can't do it. People are hooking them up to amps that can't drive them. When I had them hooked up to my dragonfly as soon as you went above 50% volume the shrill literally painful highs where all that you heard and I guess this was from the drivers not being powered properly.
I just got this in 10 minutes ago and they sound so much better at listening volume. It's like how they sound at 50% on the dragonfly but just louder.
I found their sensitivity rating, found an ohm's law calculator, and figured out which amps could get them to 110db, which is way above listening level but some tracks are quiet and this way i can eq if i want.
I highly recommend this little dac/amp. 3 inputs, L+R out and headphone out, nice volume knob. 10/10 considering it's only $65. More power than the fulla 2 iirc
>>
>>61558056
>More power than the fulla 2 iirc

A ton more power. Full 2 is only USB powered, and puts only like 40mw into 300 ohm impedance headphones.. I don't know why people buy it for their HD600s and such.

Using Equalizer APO, do a -2 or -3 dB low shelf filter with a slope of 12 and a center frequency of 1,000 Hz to effectively turn an HD650 or HD6XX into an HD600.
>>
>>61557025
>it would be great if I could switch between different eq settings.
I do this with Equalizer APO by keeping shortcuts to .bat files in my start menu. The .bat files look like this:
@echo off
copy /b /y "d:\sp\config.txt" "c:\program files\equalizerapo\config\config.txt"

Replace d:\sp with whatever folder you want to keep the config.txt and .bat file in. The batch copies the config.txt from your desired location and pastes it into your Equalizer APO config folder, instantly changing your Equalizer APO settings as a result. I use three .bat files with shortcuts in my start menu to switch between a psuedo-ER4S headphone signature, a Harman target headphone signature and my speaker EQ.
>>

Why is it so hard for manufacturers to make a good planar magnetic headphone without any obvious flaws?
>>
>>61560199
I did but I'm also not spending $300 on headphones if they'll break that easily but I guess the 5 year warranty covers all that?
>>
>>61560286
Just get the X2s and be content, what's the point of dropping good money on headphones if you have to dick around and worry about shit build quality?
>>
>>61560149
Wow that's really helpful. Thank you my friend.

I bet you have to mail it back 10 times in that time span.

I would go for cheap planar memes cus fuck X2, supposedly memeprice build quality was revised upon, but even if headband breaks its kind of poopy aka easy to replace. X2 besides sounding bad also don't have DAT sub bass extension, aka HD6xx weakness, while FR wise M1060 extends decently deep.

Or better quit being a faggot and save for da big boys, elear if you want to have all around good headphone and look for nothing more, HD800 for dat imaging, comfort (they disappear from your head) and highs, even after EQ they sound the clearest out of all, or LCD 2 for DAT BASSSSSSS, even many speakers with sub woffers don't have such tight, deep n' clear bass.
>>
>>61560286
>>61560303
"content" with those fucking bass cannons? I'll take the lcd-x clones at $300 any day. They're all metal wood and screws, trivial to keep together.
Can't wait to order mine.

or you could just buy a pair of lsr 305 and beat every single headphone out there

I want to get 1more triple driver iems. Is there any better iems for lower price? I want good sound isolation and sound quality

Works well, even at high volumes
My old board had some problems, but this one is pretty nice

Inevitably, I mean. And Audeze does it a little differently with less obstruction.
>>
>>61560574
First they are ofc loud and you need to have your own house or not a paper thin walls. Second you need a decent room, dsp correction helps but isn't a magical fix it all aid. Third you need subwoffer for lsr 305 since from 80hz they start to roll off significantly while monomemes keep it up all the way, this will be more than 300$. Lastly while speakers offer real soundstage and with subwoffer you can feel dat bass more, headphones offer better detail retrieval due to their construction nature :^).

as a beyerdynamics owner this csd plot is satisfying to see
>>
This is going to sound dumb and my tech level with headphones is near zero so please understand that. I've always wanted a nice pair of headphones for electronic music since I was a kid. My main use of headphones is gaming, is it possible to have a pair that is good for music quality and clear for gaming (location of footsteps) or is it generally one or the other.

>>

mate I use those same chink pads on my JVC MR77X, they are much better than "pleather" crap
>>
>>61561061
Honestly, noticeably too bassy for anything besides watching TV/anime and EDM. They're p e r f e c t for that. Also, for commuting, as the extra bass compensates for the background noise on buses.

I kinda miss my pair.

Actually, small earpads aside, the biggest problem with them was the noticeably recessed mids. That was it. Clarity wasn't an issue, imaging was alright, could've used more isolation, but they're vented to help with soundstage. As far as physical features go, it was perfect. But the mids made it so that a lot of music I liked just didn't feel satisfying to listen to.

Wonder how the CF2W sound.

125 has inline mic. I think that's it.
>>
>>61561328
By physical features, I mean good detachable cable with remote, folds up really small, good hard case with accessories, had that thing where a m8 could plug his headphones into your headphones so you could both listen to the same thing without a splitter, build quality, looks (opinion based), etc

Like, why isn't there another pair of headphones that had all that, but sounded better?

Terrible rec. Terrible headphones for music and terrible headphones for gaming. Directional cues are largely in the upper midrange which is very deficient on the DT990.
>>
>>61560799
I tried it with the on board of my asus maximus viiii hero alpha and it's okay at high volumes, slightly better than the dragonfly but the dac-x6 blows it away. Everything sounds better. It's most noticeable in the bass.
>>
>>61561280
>>61561388
Scratch that, TCM125 has inline mic. HJE125 seems to have different sound.
>>
>>61561414
whatever man they sound incredible to me.
>>
>>61561465
Welp, ordered the HJE120's anyways. $8 on amazon, couldn't seem to find it cheaper on any other sites while having them arrive this month.
>>
does changing the earpads on headphones (in my case the dt880) actually change the sound or is that an audiophile meme? was reading some people say it ruins the sound
>>
>>61561414

I'm the OP of that question, what would you recommend instead? Was looking through the reviews and most people are citing listener's fatigue in 1 hour. That would be a problem for gaming/music.
>>
How's this as an alternative to the stock cable to the Shure SRH1540?

https://www.amazon.ca/Shure-Replacement-Audio-Cable-Cord/dp/B01M2ZXQU3/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

20cm shorter and with a smaller right-angle plug that's more reasonable even with home use. Cable looks thinner than stock cable too, maybe??

64" / 163cm still sounds kind of long to me though, or am I just being silly in that case?
>>
>>61561553
I would recommend you request recommendations in the format provided by http://pastebin.com/fYZLW7Ub
And yes, the DT990 are very fatiguing.

I'd assume the TCM125 is just HJE125 with inline mic. Good.

>how are v-moda crossfade m100?
Not comfy at all without the XL pads. Amazing build quality (except for the hinges, that's the weak point). Nice cables, and an awesome carrying case. Great portable headphones if you like some bass, but not too overpowering. Would not rec them for home use or if you don't listen to lots of hip hop/electronic

I also rec the matte version w/ the orange cable. The red/black colorway looks kind of childish
