Since too many people use Firefox bc they think it's safer (this is false if you don't tweak) I'll recommend what you should change in about:config

This will make firefox less shit (but I recommend you use another browser)

beacon.enabled to false
media.peerconnection.enabled to false
loop.enabled to false
toolkit.telemetry.archive.enabled to false
toolkit.telemetry.enabled to false
toolkit.telemetry.unified to false
datareporting.healthreport.uploadEnabled to false
datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled to false
browser.send_pings - false
browser.send_pings.require_same_host - to true
toolkit.telemetry.server - delete
browser.selfsupport.url - delete address or replace with '' "
webgl.disabled* - to true
dom.battery.enabled - to false
network.prefetch-next - false
browser.safebrowsing.downloads.enabled - to false
browser.safebrowsing.downloads.remote.enabled - to false
browser.safebrowsing.enabled - to false
browser.safebrowsing.maleware.enabled - to false

*if you think it's not necessary, enable webgl at your own risk

no i'd rather the person who is trying to convince me to do something tells me why i should do it and what it will break. for example the /g/ wiki says to turn off a bunch of media.* functions but neglects to mention that it completely breaks player functionality on 4chan and youtube.

>>
>>61543580
nope. i would gladly de-botnet my firefox and thank OP for telling me how to do it, but only if i know what i'm breaking beforehand. when i followed the /g/ wiki i had to spend way too much time trying to narrow down media.autoplay.enabled as the culprit for breaking webms and youtube. you'd think it would just disable autoplay like it says, but it actually prevents webms and youtube videos from playing at all even when manually started.
>>
>>61543616
>if i know what i'm breaking beforehand
by disabling webgl? nothing.
/g/ wiki don't break youtube the thing is it prevents flash/html5 from playing without your approval

it broke youtube for me. might have been a combination of settings; i don't know. either way i don't want to disable settings without knowing what they will break.

Do the addons spy on you though? I know a few recommended add ons but they have a warning about the legacy permissions:

>Please note this add-on uses legacy technology, which gives it access to all browser functions and data without requesting your permission.

What is the ideal set up from browsing the web with Icecat. I already use Icecat for every site it works for without JS enabled.

I have been using a second browser with JS enabled but I feel like there is a better way.

>Ublock O, Umatrix, Decentraleyes
Any even better options?

I'm about to just start browsing with tails for everything to avoid having to worry about configuring my OS(Trisquel) every now and then.

I also recommend using TCP/IP kernel patches like Personality/Stealth/Fingerprint Fucker to avoid OS detection
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/sysctl#TCP.2FIP_stack_hardening
https://nmap.org/misc/defeat-nmap-osdetect.html

And also the following addons
>ArchiveIs Now
Right click suspicious links and check an archived/screenshot of the page before viewing
>CanvasBlocker
Stop websites fingerprinting your browser
>Decentraleyes
CDN emulation for more privacy/anti-tracking
>Greasemonkey with 4chanX and Anti-Adblock killer
Usability script for 4chan and a script to bypass "blockadblock"
>Mailvelope
Encrypt e-mails/other texts with GPG
>No resource URI leak
Deny resource:// content
>Pure URL
Remove tracking from URLs
>Random Agent Spoofer
Not just a UA spoofer; has tons of awesome anti-tracking configurations, including IP-header spoofing and screen-size spoofing. Tons of awesomeness.
>Self destructing cookies
Deny cookies; whitelist sites based on rules.
>Smart HTTPS
Force HTTPS whererver possible
>Ublock Origin
Block ads. Also use easylist and easyprivacy from https://easylist.to/
>Umatrix
Block scripts, and I suggest disabling everything except 1st party images by default.

Use firejail to launch Firefox, and preferably dnscrypt-proxy alongside a self-hosted VPN while browsing.
>>
>>61561078
>Random Agent Spoofer
This is not a good idea. Websites can realize you are changing your agent and find suspicious and track your behavior
>>
>>61560963
Abrowser. The default for Trisquel.
>>61561016
Well if I was smart enough to swap the tor browser for Icecat I would just use that. I don't care for TOR considering the nodes are compromised, not that it would matter I just hit this chan and read random articles, watch youtube videos, sometime surf to random site(where I like the live OS option) because of malware.
>>
>>61561157

>>
>>61561178
Would it be easier to modify tails OS to use Icecat instead? Considering I like the MAC address spoofing and the desktop functions I would kinda prefer to use what is already in place with that one little tweak.
>>
>>61561363
I'm not familiar with tails but I think you could easily make a iso with icecat bundled
>>
>>61561363
XFCE has MAC spoofing options in its default NetworkManager Applet. But if you're on KDE yourself, there's always macchanger.

Whonix is a more secure option anyway.
>>
>>61561419
You seem to know about security
how can I enable mac spoofing in XFCE? I'm about to move to xubuntu or install ubuntu budgie and then xubuntu packages
>>
>>61561535
It doesn't have to be XFCE, there's probably other DEs that have that option. Experiment for yourself, but a universal way is macchanger
$ sudo apt-get install macchanger
$ sudo macchanger -r <interface>

You could easily script something that randomizes your MAC address on startup on all wireless interfaces.

Here's an example bash script
#!/bin/bash
interfaces=($(ls /sys/class/net | egrep -v 'lo|eth|enp|veth|ppp|tun'))
for (( i = 0; i < ${#interfaces[@]}; i++ )); do macchanger -r "${interfaces[$i]}"; done

chmod +x script.sh and add it as a service on startup based on your current system. (for ubuntu)

>HOW DO """"PEOPLE""" ON CHROME DEAL WITH HAVING ANY MORE THAN 15 TABS ON THE SCREEN

Nigger, I used to average 2000 tabs per session on FF/Palememe. When I switched to Vivaldi + tabs outliner, I tackled my tab hoarding habit and now just average 170 open tabs per session.

Smart HTTPS is a webextension so it will continue to work on 57+.
Besides that, HTTPS Everywhere is ridiculously bloated and a huge memory leak. It relies on a list that must always be up-to-date while Smart HTTPS simply assumes every site has HTTPS and seamlessly falls back to HTTP when it encounters a site that doesn't. Plus, it has very handy and simple buttons to white/blacklist sites.
