the official youtube app forces ads on you and if you turn off the screen it stops the video, so you cannot use it to listen to music without buttraping your battery. It is in the youtube terms of use, a few 3rd party applications offered off-screen music listening but (((google))) forced them to remove this feature.
Be glad you can alt-tab out of youtube in your desktop browsers.
