The only way to truly understand VR is to experience it (and not only that, but the good headsets with the good software). If you're skeptical, try a live demo and make up your own mind. Or keep reading for a comprehensive overview.

Play some regular non-VR games before you realize how much better they would be if they were designed for VR.
>>
The only way VR won't tank is by going phone VR. Nobody wants to buy autistic shit like VIVE.

This. Actually the source is Superdata, but they don't reveal how exactly they get this "data", and in fact they've been proven wrong on various data points before. No one should trust any of these estimates. Only hard evidence is what we can trust.

I don't believe that.
>>
>>61543692
It is probably different now but if you're talking about before the big oculus sale, I think it's believable. The oculus had a rough start. They didn't have the proper controllers till very later and there were just various problems. Now, they're solid though.

Pre-download Lone Echo because it's one of the prettiest, best-designed, sickness-free, emotional VR games out right now.

Rift was just a headset when it came out. Vive had a monopoly on roomscale and standing stuff for the first couple months, and there were cheaper headsets for seated stuff (even then) so there was virtually no reason to buy a Rift.

It usually takes a while for games like that to make their way to the seas. It only came out a few days ago.

I'm glad I went to my local best buy immediately after I found out about the sale. I didn't think it would completely sell so fast.

Amazon and Oculus were backordered within days of the sale's launch, but Best Buy had stock all the way up until this weekend. They even had EVE Valkyrie copies to give out and free 2 day shipping.

i hate myself for deliberating a purchase since the sale start. Hope it comes before August 8th, my birthday.

I guess I'm gonna have to delay the shipment a fucking week if they're gonna do this shit, I gotta leave for work in half an hour.

VR flopped so hard!

>Stated local man with head buried in the ground.
>>
>>61546551
What I don't understand is why this matters. It has games. You can buy it and get enjoyment out of it. Even if Racing Wheels and HOTAS joysticks flopped, I'd still want them. Even if video games as a whole flopped I would still want to play some of the ones that existed.
>>
Where's a good place to find photogrammetry stuff apart from Realities and the downloadable environments in Steam VR?
>>
Guys, let's be honest here, would it be worth buying the Vive anymore? LG is coming out with a headset probably sometime soon and it's going to have stuff like wireless and Knuckles and Lighthouse 2.0 by default. It's going to be a gen 1.5 headset, but it's probably going to cost just as cheap/much as the Vive. Why get a Vive when we could just wait just a tiny bit more for LG, who has much better track record as a company than HTC? When LG releases it's going to be another year or two till gen 2 from Oculus and other companies hit.
>>
>>61548205
Depends. I know that games with OSVR inherently support the Vive, but do games made with OpenVR (Vive's SDK software) inherently support OSVR headsets? If not, it might have a more limited selection of games than the Vive.
>>
>>61548587
Don't know about OSVR but it's a SteamVR headset and they are partnering with Valve to make it, so I can only assume it's going to work with everything designed for the Vive pretty nicely.
>>
>>61548642
Oh, yeah you're right. I just looked it up and they ARE using OpenVR, so my question doesn't even matter. Hypothetically it'd work with any Vive game.
>>
>>61548205
>it's going to have stuff like wireless and Knuckles

Do you have any source for this? All the articles I can find about it are from the initial announcement.
>>
>>61548719
No confirmation but it's pretty much assured at this point considering the stages of development for each of those things. Otherwise what would all the talk about Lighthouse 2.0 be for? What would Knuckles be for? They're all pretty much very mature in development, and HTC has said they won't be doing another headset soon.
>>
>>61548805
Lighthouse 2.0 is a cheaper alternative for cost. Knuckles is their Oculus touch. Besides neither of those are being worked on by HTC, Valve does whatever they like, ie Steam Controllers and Link. Unless LG decides to license out the hardware, Valve will be selling their hardware separate I bet.
>>
it's only real use for consumers is porn and walking simulators - and it's just not worth it for that price
>>
>>61548984
Lighthouse 2.0 is cheaper yes but also better. It's not compatible for the Vive however so it's kind of weird if it was just released by itself. Same for Knuckles, there's little reason for Valve to release it by themselves since if it's not packed in with a headset, it'll always play second fiddle to support for regular wand controls which isn't optimal. Valve already said they're designing their games basically for these controllers.
>>
Had a random thought today: VR fishing simulator. Could be the first time this type of game is actually enjoyable. Driving the boat around the lake, finding a spot, setting up, casting, reeling, etc. If the graphics and environments are good I think I could spend a lot of time with this. Also add a feature to pause if you flip up the headset for a swig of beer. If any devs are following these threads wanting ideas, there's a freebie for ya.

There have been some pretty fun fishing games over the years.

It's always been one of those things that sounds silly but is actually very cathartic.

I don't think anyone has ever done a real gamer's game with the concept, though. Gone the EA Sports route and gone fully over-the-top, like they did with snowboarding (SSX) or driving (Burnout).
>>
>>61549574
You're right, I remember that dreamcast one was cool with the controller. Seems like they've been trying for immersion for a while...I bet if some developer does it right it could be a hit. Add in weekend tournaments, teams and stuff like that, would be the icing on the cake.

>fishing e-sports

suddenly this is a thing that I want.
>>
>>61549726
Imagine that you start off with lakes (realistically modeled after real lakes and their native species of course), move up to off-shore fishing, then deep sea fishing. Cooperative multiplayer would be neccesary for those tiers of course. Joining boats would be like joining a clan. Could even MMO-scale it and have seasons with lots of players competing, most successful boats win.

There's a fishing app out there I believe. It's not very good.
>>
>>61543692

What's so hard to believe? Both headsets were too expensive for anything but the enthusiast crowd. And the enthusiasts are going to buy the best experience.
>>
>>61549345

Depending on where you live it's cheaper and easier to just actually go fishing.
>>
>tried out VR
>it's literally nothing
>for game/productivity it's shit because input precision is low

I find it's only good for the on-a-rail first person movie/video clip but it's not worth it for the price right meow.
