When I was younger I didn't organize ANYTHING but I backed up everything, so I have like 10+ years of dumb bullshit that needs to be cleaned up and indexed properly. When I get bored I go through them. Even to this day I still have a giant sort queue but it's better than throwing things in one directory, they're losely sorted.

Other than that I try to work on software projects or learn things.

I use a variety of tools:
void-tools' "Everything", a file indexer/search utility to search by name, location, and metadata.
SpaceSniffer, you give it a directory and it presents you with a visual representation of the size, this tool has replaced windirstat for me
Something called "DupeFinder.exe", I don't remember which website I got this from but I'm pretty sure it's dead now, it's a simple and fast utility that compares lists of directories, finding exact duplicates which you typically want to delete.
"EmptyFolderNuker" givei t a path and it will search recursivley for empty directories, includes directories that only contain empty directories too which is nice.
Visipics, this is another dupe removal tool except for images.
hydrus-network, this is where my images eventually go, it's a tag based media indexer that's really good an cross platform
Emby (formerly MediaBrowser) for my video content, I manually organize it on the filesystem into a /TV, /Movies directory then manage it via Emby, although that's just for other devices, on my desktop I just access the files directly with mpv and my file explorer
Foobar2k with a tree style, union merging, library layour plugin; same deal as Emby, I organize my files on the filesystem with the help of the next tool
MusicBrainz Picard, a great tool for automatically sorting your music library as well as fetching tags, cover art, etc.

As for my queue, I download things to a 'dump' directory, a script monitors it, when it gets to be too big it creates a timestamped directory and loose sorts things by their filetype "images, video, audio, etc.". I like this system because, while I have many files to sort, they're broken up into chunks that I can tackle whenever.

Pic related is my current sort queue after improving my organization habits, not the monstrous backup folder, although stuff from there comes here eventually, the timestamp reflects the date of sorting not the date of the content.
