I'm started to not like this any more.
Winfags of /g/, give me a reason not to intsall GNU/Linux right now (using an older Windows version is not something I wish to do).

You have an hour.

I clicked each one and they opened up games asking me to agree to their EULA/TOS or whatever.

Doesn't matter now anyway, I'm just updating my old arch linux postinatall script from a cuple of years ago and then I'll be using that again with the hour.
>>
You can stop the installs of apps automatically by disabling automatic updates in the store app. It's retarded and you have to manually update store apps from then on, but it stops the downloads.

Or alternatively, a quick tinker with the group policy settings.

I was annoyed MS did this, but I'm stuck using their OS and it really is something some third world toilet avoider would come up with and think a good idea.

>Right Click>Uninstall
I had already done that before, they just re-installed themselves out of nowhere.

Admittedly this was a final straw, I set up pi-hole last week and was concerned at all the weird MS addressed being pinged hundreds of times a day while my machine is left doing nothing but I'm out of the house.
>>
>>61536655
Im pretty sure the only time you have to deal with it is on a fresh install and the occasional large (i.e. bigger than patch tuesday) update.
>>
>>61536651
I would switch, but I work as a 3d generalist and like to work on projects at home too with similar software- I'm keeping an eye on support for linux but it's still just not quite there yet and I don't know the if wine works well with the programs I use. It's just too much drama for something that already works well, albeit with a shitty start meu.
>>

>Im pretty sure the only time you have to deal with it is on a fresh install and the occasional large (i.e. bigger than patch tuesday) update.

OP here, this was not a fresh install. I'm well aware of the fresh install issue where if you remove them before all store updates are done it reinstalls.
>>
>>61536612
Microsoft probably will never do something TOO evil with the telemetry.
But it's still a bunch of services with possible vulnerabilities running that you can't actually truly disable.

It's kinda like being forced to use internet explorer.

Yes, in all fairness I did mentioned that before too but the option to disable automatic app downloads is by no means clear. I've got it to stop, but that was either by disabling app updates or disabling app recommendations in some section of the settings menu. I'm still unsure which, iirc the latter still didn't solve the issue.
>>

Ignore pajeets trying to get you to use LTSB, they do is so you register on their site and reinstall every 90 days which the reset time gives them extra chances to transmit data back before you can turn it off.
>>
>>61537024
Why not?
Doesn't it remap the address space used for communication between the kernel and the actual device to the address space of the virtual machine?
Won't that mean it can have the same performance as if the driver ran in the kernel?
>>
>>61537295
Yes. Ignore the Microsoft shill desperately trying to confuse summerfags into installing Windows on baremetal.
>>
>>61536021
Microsoft decided we are not their target audience...

And frankly the only reason I'm still on windows is because setting up Linux the way I like takes me over 10 hours, and I don't have that amount of time now that I work...

That and the fact that I use outlook (and not going to switch to gmail), and therefore I don't really escape the ms-botnet.

I do have over 30 games on steam, but I don't have time (or energy) to play anymore.

When I get back, I just shitpost here until I fall asleep.

on top of that UI in Linux is generally garbage and it clashes with how Windows works on fundamental levels like pointer acceleration so it feels weird. It's an option for sure, but not the only one.

what is it with you windows shills moving the goalposts as soon as you get called out for being retarded

also nice whitepaper from 2007, I'm sure the current state of virtualisation is just as bad as it was a decade ago

>>61537295

the performance penalty in terms of gaymen is 1-5% at most and that includes the drawback of not being able to give the vm a full unused cpu core/thread, although you can get very close with core pinning at the expense of losing a core/thread or two to dedicate to the host os, you'll generally have a harder time finding a disk setup that has decent or close to native disk performance than you will a setup which has close to native cpu or gpu performance which is basically >97% out of the box in most cases

the thing you have to remember is things like iommu, sriov and vt-d is that they aren't designed for gaming applications, they're designed for some fairly serious server virtualisation where virtual machines need *high* performance pass-through of things like raid and network cards, if nvidia geforce cards inability to be passed through without using quadro firmware isn't a strong indicator of that I don't know what else is

Stick with it if you either need some specific software that has no Linux counterpart (Photoshop, visual studio, ms office) or you're scared of Linux, out simply getting your hands a little dirty.
Otherwise it's a good idea.

sure thing, courtesy of leddit http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/8633319? (note the disk), typical scores for this card range around 15k (pic related), with a variance of around 12k on the low end up to about 18k world record
some more https://forum.level1techs.com/t/how-fast-is-kvm-host-vs-virtual-machine-performance/110192

anecdotally, testing game benchmark results on native and in a vm show no time difference, and testing with something like fraps benchmark tool shows no difference in average/low/0.1% frame times and shows no extra noticeable frame time spikes (when viewed in frafs benchmark viewer)
I did have some awful disk 4k random performance which affected some games during loading or disk writes but that has since been resolved, and I am pinning 2 cores and 4 threads to the host machine making my 6c/12t cpu a 4c/8t cpu as far as the vm goes which obviously is going to be a severe performance hit in cpu heavy games, although you can give 6c/12t to the vm the host os still needs resources to run and may result in less than consistent performance depending on host load, the rule of thumb generally is gpus are passed through and will act almost exactly as if native and everything else depends on individual setup and individual needs

I don't get why Winfags stick with Microsoft Spyware 10 just because they have one vidya game that doesn't work with Linux. Okay, I get it. Playing this game is worth more to you than having a private or secure desktop. You'd rather have Microsoft monitor what you do and install/uninstall things on your box than give up this game. Alright, so why not just dual boot? You can do 99% of your stuff in Linux and then boot up the botnet when you need to play Call of Cucks 7: Modern Dildoes or whatever it is.
