Should I learn C#, or will that be dead in four years too?

C# is gonna be around for a long time. There's untold billions of dollars of legacy code in C# that's not going anywhere because it works and was fucking expensive to build.
>>
please dont go anywhere near M$ languages
>>
I struggled with learning programming, C# was a graceful mid level language that enabled me to learn and understand both lower level languages and higher. Know I make good money working with C# to make games. There's still a ton to learn and it's super versatile. So if you're new to programming or not, I suggest it. Don't use mono develop tho. VS Code or Visual Studios. Both free.
>>
Totally depends on what you want to do. If you're looking to learn programming generally, I personally think C# is a great place to start. It's well-designed with the ability to stay fairly abstract, but it also has the ability to go quite low-level. The runtime is powerful, if that's your thing, and it has a great community.

That said, if you're looking to do something specific with it that isn't writing games, you'll probably want to at least consider something else. C#'s strongest domain is probably video game writing or general Windows application writing (does anyone still write "generic Windows applications"?).

Is it worth learning c# on Linux, though?

Probably not, though I think it's still okay for learning games for Unity.

You really have to include what you're trying to do. Don't learn C# just for the sake of learning C#. If your goal is literally just learning, it's fine to learn OOP I guess but if that's your goal you might as well learn Java or C++.
