I have a tablet that has a partition in its internal storage.
I usually move apps to it as it counts as SD storage, but now it's acting up. It seems as if it vanished, it flat out stopped being recognized. It had done this before, but it was usually fixed upon rebooting. Now it's not the case though, after the all reboots I go to the storage tab in settings and for a moment it shows up, but it doesn't get past calculating before is vanishes and only the main partition is left. In its place is left a Mount SD Storage button which isn't greyed out, but it does nothing.

Is it corrupted? Is it dead? Can I do anything about it?
I've gone as far as going into recovery and factory reset and wipe all data but the second partition is still completely gone.
Running 4.2.2 if that matters.

My laptop recently updated to windows 10.crap and it completely ruined my sound. The treble is too high and many notes off key, and is all around flat and low volume.
I've tried uninstalling my sound drivers, checking and unchecking everything in my speakers enhancements box, played with every setting there is. Windows says there is nothing wrong with it, I even downloaded the previous version sound driver (RealTek High Definition Audio Device) and no change.
There is a mute key, and when the machine is muted, a little orange light comes on. The mute key still works, but the light does not come on now. Not sure if it helps but the problem might not be the sound driver.

Chances are, your manufacturer used a pre-made settings for your audio driver, like from vaio, toshiba, hp, etc
Go to your manufacturer site, enter your model and check for drivers to download, get the ones from 10 or 8 if the formers aren't available and install them.

Can somebody give me a good tutorial on bitcoin? It's entirely possible I'm retarded, but I don't get it at all. I've been reading up on it for about the past month.

Let's say hypothetically I wanted to buy something with Bitcoin. I read on /v/ you can buy Xbox Live with Bitcoin (I don't know why you would do this considering they have all your information) so let's use that as an example.

I need to make a wallet. But wallets can be online or offline, but even offline wallets report to the blockchain? So are they offline or not?

How would I get bitcoins in the first place? When the bitcoin meme was just starting I tried to make an account at Coinbase and they wanted a blank check. I don't feel comfortable giving that out, isn't this supposed to be anonymous? Or at least better than using your straight debit card?

I tried to download the bitcoin client but it was like 250GB. I'm on a bandwidth cap being in Ameristan, this isn't a go. Do these people who use bitcoin on their cell phones walk around with a 250GB install? Big microSD cards?

Basically help.

Lolwat. Rome murdered the shit out of the stupid question armies with their superiorly organized armies and managed to beat the stupid questions at sea despite the stupid questions being the major naval power of the era and the Roman having never had a navy before, after this stupid questions completely surrendered to Rome. Hamilcar Barca, a stupid question general was so butthurt over this, he made is sons swear to hate Rome forever, and fucked off to Spain.

40 years later Hannibal convinces stupid questions that war with Rome was a good idea again, and then dragged a bunch of Elephants over the Alps and rampaged around Italy for a while being ignored by the Romans who sent Scipio Motherfucking Africanus to Africa, which was named after him that's how badass he was, and beat the shit out of the stupid questions so bad they call Hannibal back, where Scipio trounced him at Zama. Rome then made stupid questions their bitch, and sent Hannibal packing to Asia where he died a lonely old man.

Rome then destroyed stupid questions cause they just felt like it one day and stupid questions were a bunch of Jews anyway.

>>
>>61533915
PGP is a assymetric encryption standard. You encrypt outgoing emails with the public key of the recipient. You can also sign outgoing mails with your private key and the recipient can use your public key to verify that is was signed with you key. Public keys a distrubuted via key servers and ad-hoc personal means. How you actually use it is generally down to how the addon for your mail client works.

Should probably say that the only good reason to use PGP and email for encrypted messaging these days is if you're communicating with someone who demands PGP'd email for whatever reason.

If you just want a private comms solution, XMPP over TOR or one of those hipster privacy apps like Signal would resolve a lot of externalities that PGP doesn't address, and it's a lot easier to teach other people how to use them.

I'm 24, about to start uni doing the comp sci meme. I have an AA in web design / graphic arts shit I'll never use. Hence why I'm a little old to be just starting uni.

Anyway, I'm thinking either start researching obscure security shit, get the degree, get a job as a sysadmin, work my way up... maybe start doing security consulting / pentesting once I have a couple years of sysadmin / devops under my belt.

Or do I go all in on app design and try and come up with some niche app that will make me millions right away?

I would think shitting out meme apps to get a couple thousandth of the market to shell out a few bucks each would be easier than pitting yourself against adveseries that either took you seriously as a threat vector or don't care enough to pay you for breaking their shit.
>>
>>61535579
dont fall for the app meme, that market will probably crash soon since pretty much everything we can think of already has turned into apps, go the security/sysadmin road, theres still lots of work there

Oh..... really! And that's why there is only one app of each type right? Because why would there be more? It just wouldn't make sense!
This isn't your rationalist magical realm, marketing is more effective than functionality at selling fungible products.

The first route is a lot more work, definitely. And the second would require a bit of luck. I just think the first could be potentially more rewarding if I actually succeeded. I do find the field very fascinating and it keeps me up late at night. Unless you consider a bunch of money with not much else to do rewarding (the second option). I mean I do have hobbies I could spend time and money doing if I really did hit the jack pot on a meme app. I dunno.

>>61535623
>probably
Thing is, we just don't know yet. There may still be some great ideas for apps not yet invented hiding in plain site.

I do agree with you though, malware/ransomware/botnets are all growing exponentially right now. 2017 has been the ugliest year yet. So I do think job security wise it'd be a good field to get into.

Thank you both for your advice.

The real question is just how bad and miserable conditions people will put up with for a shit amount of pay. People will be put into space and further out for purely economic reasons. The real question is just how badly they're going to get fucked in terms of profit for the isolation and exposure to space doing the job compared to the people paying them to do it. It's like how if you got a job at mcdonalds starting min wage, you'll never work your way up to owning your own franchise off that paycheck, where as the franchise owners can afford to live like kings. The health effects from being in space don't seem like they'd be worth the risk but they'll find someone to fuck over on it easily.

I'm just saying that your logic is flawed. There are plenty of reasons for micro$oft not wanting people to use a business distribution for home use. It definitely does have the telemetry reduced. Got some 0.5mm pads but it might not be enough. My intention is to perhaps get a lower temperature on a r9 280x that's getting to 85C and I seriously don't know what else to do other than getting an aftermarket cooler that might be as pricey as buying an equivalent GPU these days.

>>
>>61538873
you should still see a significant improvement if going from hdd to ssd aslong as you have some sata connector made in the last 5 years
>>
>>61538821

stock intel coolers can be quiet or they can be stupidly loud in my experience so this question depends on how loud yours is, aios have a consistent pump noise which doesn't change in volume which may be louder than a fan in low speeds but the trade off is that it's a less high pitched whining/whirring noise and more of a lower pitched noise

either way you'll certainly get far better cooling for an equivalent noise level

I'm not sure how you expect to use thermal pads to accomplish that. 85 isn't hot for a GPU either. There are lots of people running around with 5+ year old cards that hit those temps on a regular basis.

Yup, finally confirmed it's the USB header. But for some reason unbeknownst to me, my GPU doesn't work without it plugged in. I tried it unplugged with both the 460 and the 580 to no avail. Guess my only solution is buying a new motherboard. Which also means a new case and psu because of proprietary HP garbage.

Side note: Pretty sure I fucked the 6-pin female on my RX 460. Everything was unplugged but at some point plugging it back in I sort of heard a nearly silent pop. Couldn't smell anything, but now the power light is red instead of blue no matter what I do.

Fucking kill me. Now I have nothing until I scrape up the cash for a psu, case, and lga 1150 mobo.

Hard drive bays rarely block airflow (they are designed that way)on the other hand SSD rarely get hot (warm maybe but SSD heat issues are more common on mSata and m2 factors than in 2.5")
If your hidden bay is mounted on the back-plate of the motherboard it would be a PITA to swap that drive if you ever want to upgrade.

Am I better off getting a used xeon or buying a new pentium/AMD for roughly the same cost?

The used xeons are more power hungry but significantly more powerful.

No

Would it be possible to make a decent 1080p monitor that can draw power through the HDMI port so you can save some outlet space?
>>
>>61540281
If you can make a monitor that uses less than 0.25 watts, yeah.
>>
>>61540281
HDMI, not unless the standard changes, which is probably won't.

Better off hoping for USB-C.

So if I don't want to use boost::any I have to use a get[type] function to return the value string converted to [type], right?

Remagnetize with some strong magnet. Preferably neodimium one.

use it less by getting ssd

>Will they work better than an air gap? Yes. Will they work as well as a 1mm pad? Not even close.

Good to know. It's a shame there's not much documentation around.

>I'm not sure how you expect to use thermal pads to accomplish that.

By replacing what's already there, I guess.

>85 isn't hot for a GPU either. There are lots of people running around with 5+ year old cards that hit those temps on a regular basis.

Well, I followed the suggestion after asking about a week ago because everyone was freaking about those 85C at max, and apparently any smells are not "normal". Whenever it reaches that temperature it is fairly noisy and the smell is probably the thing that psychologically makes me think I'm going to burn the goddamn house down. It's like that awful smell from blow dryers. My thinkpad probably produces as much heat and I never give a shit because that's pretty much all it does.

My Dell E7250 died. Bought it second hand for only 400 eurocoins, the guy had swapped the screen to a FHD and slapped a 500 SSD in it.
Now when I plug in the charger, the light of the charger goes out, and when I hit the power button, nothing happens.
I read somewhere there's probably something dead in the motherboard, and some Paki in a video about another laptop shows it's some kind of minuscule part you have to swap, but you have to solder it.
Now I'm an ultrapleb with technology, but I'm also a poorfag.
Can someone give me some advice?

Is it a good idea to vent your frustrations with a boss on leaving a job or could it repercussions later on?
>>
>>61541049
yes, very easy
>>
>>61541067
Find new job first? or does that sound too crazy?
Repercussions are just that you cant use your old job as reference if you burn bridges
>>
>>61541067
When you say vent your frustrations do you mean cursing out your boss and calling him a shitbag before you leave?

It's dead now. 1.7.13 is officially the last version unless someone steps up and takes over development.

Just call them out for undermining and generally somewhat poor employee treatment. Because they tend to think they're hot shit for some reason.

85 is a little on the warm side for that chip but not unreasonable depending on ventilation and how shitty the stock cooler is. Not hot enough to make burning smells anyway.

The GPU chip uses thermal grease to interface with its cooler rather than a pad. If the paste was applied by machine at the factory, it may have a square, pad-like appearance, but it's not a pad. A pad doesn't have sufficient thermal conductivity to substitute either. If you have a visible gap between the GPU and the cooler, it's because you didn't put the cooler back on correctly.

The smell might be from one of the smaller brackets / heatsinks underneath the main cooler not making contact with something they're supposed to. You might be able to use your pad on that if it turns out to be the correct thickness. There could be a solder joint that went cold somewhere too. It's uncommon but not unheard of.

You should send the thing back if you can. Cooling on these big video cards is complicated and touchy.
