Lots of shitty software like to open URLs upon installation/uninstallation so if you don't want to see an Adobe site telling you that Flash was successfully installed this would prevent it. It's not the best solution as it might momentarily flash an empty command prompt and sometimes you actually want to know those URLs but it's better than just letting the browser handle it.
Something like
int main(int argc, char **argv){
printf("There was an attempt to open following URL:\n%s", argv[1]);
...
is a much better choice. I personally use it alongside with saving those URLs into a file.
Makes me wonder why don't web browsers offer an option to ignore them by default. Something like "Do you want to open this URL?" would be nice.
