Did you ever experience ssd failure due to NAND wear? Should anyone be worried in 2017 about losing all data after downloading too much anime?

Also SSD-Z thread.

I have 4 SSDs in different PCs and all of them works perfectly. This is the oldest one, bought in april'13. 3 other is 850 evo 250(D:) and 500GB(different system), and cheap adata(sf550 IIRC) in a laptop.

Came close to it once with a Crucial M4 from 2013, replaced it with an Intel SSD. Apparently I have 150 TB written (on NAND, host writes are a bit lower but why is there such a disparity?) even though I don't even have my page file on it. The hell's going on?
>>
>>61519324
If a web browser like chrome uses your ssd, it will write and read the shit of it. Check your resource monitor during browsing

Nice tool you're shilling here.

I've had 2 SSDs die.

One was a first gen Kingston SSD. No trim support and only 64gb. My system bsod'd and I rebooted and kept using my PC, but after a few more crashes I realized my SSD went read-only. I paid $130 in 2010 for it and warrantied it in 2013 when it died. It got replaced with a much better but still cheap Kingston 64gb ssd. Some whore stole the 64gb SSD replacement after I fucked her.

Second one was a mushkin chronos 120gb SSD with a sandforce controller similar to the ocz vertex 3. It died after a single year and was outright failure.

Now on a crucial mx200 that seems to be doing fine

it's such a shitty ssd that it's not even in the database :^)

i have 2 kingston 64gb ssds from ages ago as my primary drives

one for win 7 one for debian

havent skipped a beat but thanks for giving me anxiety pal
>>
it will matter less and less as we move towards affordable 50TB SSDs.
>>
>>61519985
All 1TB and bigger SSDs are TLC.
It's only a matter of time before they make cells even less reliable, just to achieve cheaper production costs
>>
I dunno about wear but my Mushkin Chronos died about a year after use. Just wouldn't boot one day. Then I tried it again and it worked...for a few hours, then wouldn't boot. Eventually it refused to do anything. I was a lazy ass and never RMA'd it. It wasn't much faster than a SATA 3 drive anyways.

My Samsung 850 evo is going strong a year later.
>>
I'm not sure. My OCZ Arc 100 went full read only mode. The data was 100% accessible so I was able to move it to new SSD. According to the SMART, the disk was healthy, and it was about 1 year old, so I think it couldn't be wear issue but who knows...
>>
>>61522270
my crucial ssd did the same thing. i'm back to using a western digital hard drive to boot from and it's not hugely slower at booting up desu.
>>
>>61519215
You probably should worry about SSD wear given that you use a SSD with defective firmware that writes a few hundred GB a day even if you don't use it much.
>>
>>61519215
>Should anyone be worried in 2017 about losing all data after downloading too much anime?

If you download that many chinese sex cartoons a failing ssd is the least of your problems.
>>
Basically:

MLC NAND: ~3,000 P/E cycles
V-NAND: ~6,000 P/E cycles

256GB 960 prp m.2: ~1,500,000 GB writes
512GB 840 evo: ~1,500,000 GB writes

Normally the controllers will reduce hotspots by engaging in wear leveling, outlive the NAND, and turn your SSD read-only once all the NAND cells are worn to oblivion.

>tl;dr
You'll probably die or replace your SSD before it wears out.
>>
>>61522315
The worst part is I can't RMA this drive... because the data is fine. I have on it my private files, work data, keepass database, apps, games, scans, medial records... I tried to explain that to OCZ, but they insisted to send the drive to them. Nope. Warranty for hdd/sdd is a scam.
>>
>>61522479
They have to test the drive to make sure you're not shitting them. Couldn't you have backed up your stuff and formatted it?
>>
>>61522506
Nope, full read only. I tried to DD it but with no luck. Not a single sector was overwritten.

I've just realised thanks to this that I plugged my shit into the wrong goddamn SATA port when I took everything apart to clean it the other day. Only running at SATA 2 speed.

Hello fellow R*dditor! I'm with you on this, I too hate all these animeposters on this board! Say, why don't we ditch all these losers and back to /r/ragecomics/ instead?
