I have the ATH-M50s and the Beats By Dre Pros. Both do what they're supposed to do I think (M50s flat and clear, Pros bassy) but I want something in-between. Doesn't have to be bluetooth enabled or anything.

Budget isn't an issue too much as long as it's under $400. Whatever headphone is recommended I will likely buy used anyways.

It still costs twice as much as my set up, and it's stupidly huge. I'd also question if it sounds better with my headphones (600's) but I don't actually know, or care, based on the things I just stated.

>>

I looked into the Fulla 2, but buying direct from Schiit is 99+16.20+Brokerage fee(Schiit says $6.50-10, we'll assume 6.50) and possibly customs.
So 121.70USD and any customs, which translates into $153 CAD.
Suddenly it's not quite as affordable.
I dunno, maybe it's worth $150 but it's a kinda demoralizing number.

Probably just retarded Amazon sellers.
The one experience I had way back when was I went to a hi-fi shop in Toronto to buy a pair of ATH-M50s (don't judge me, I was a pleb and they were THE recommendation back then) and the white ones were $10 more than the black. I asked the dude if there was any difference and he said "It's the Apple tax, people will pay $10 more for white headphones"

dunno if anyone has a better recommendation. I remember this was recommended to me when the ATH-M40X and M50X were also recommended here so eh times may have changed. >>
>>61499503
EQing headphones properly takes considerable time and effort when you factor in the learning curve. Not everybody wants to put in that time and effort. Some people are willing to pay a premium for headphones they don't need to EQ.
>>
>>61499527
Plus, there's no guarantee you will always have your EQ settings with you.
Not for me though, I'm quite happy with my EQ'd headphones.
>>
>>61499503

If someone is bashing something too hard or praising something as if there was no tomorow there's a good chance the damn thing is actually not bad and it's all just shitposting, think about it, no one ven bothers shitposting about Beats, Skullcandy etc.

tl;dr: take everything you read here with a grain of salt.

K712 owner here. They're not in your face like beyers, it's hard to compare them to hd600 because I last heard them a while back but from memory they weren't quite as detailed. Can't someone else just do it and share it with me? I can't assume there is THAT big of a difference between copies of a particular headphone that you couldn't share the EQ profile. Sure, you'd get the best results from individual fine-tuning but a blanket EQ profile would probably still offer plenty of benefit.

Skullcandy is legit good though the only problem is that the build quality is fucking dogshit.

Anyone who spends some decent time reading that forum will come away with these takeaways:
- It is not a shitposting haven like /hpg/; the tone is generally sincere;

- The members are in near universal agreement that most Beyerdynamics are treble-heavy dogshit.

pretty disappointing build quality for its price, even the K7xx series are not much more impressive.

honestly I'm more impressed with my MDR7506's build than with the weird plastic parts K702. Especially that weird clear plastic holding the headband together, along with using a dumb elastic for the headband too, the silver accents are still plastic, .etc

I wouldn't recommend AKG headphones to anyone if only for the build of the headphones itself, nothing about its sound.

>Why does prog rock have such good imaging?
>Is it just a mixing thing?
Yes actually, it's nothing carved in stone, but most engineers follow a few guidelines when mixing genre A or B, things that sound good and/or are already expected by the listeners, for example, it's very common for heavy metal bands to have their songs mixed in what is called "wall of sound", as opposed to more balanced pop song mixes, also, Prog happens to be a genre full of tech nuts, people who spend their lifes messing around with effects, synthesizers etc, so you can expect the musicians to want some intricate mixing, however even if that's not the case (which i'm pretty sure is rare as hell), chances are that the engineer working with them knows what the public for the genre expects and will do this kind of thing anyway.

I do warn you that i gave a rather simplified answer (sleepy as fuck right now), if you want to better understand why a certain genre is produced the way it is reading on it's history can give you lots of clues.
Also, if you have the time for it, watch this video, it makes understanding the basics of mixing a lot easier (and it's also hilarious for various reasons):

Take everything you read here with a grain of salt, a lot of the hate towards Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, AKG etc you see here comes from shitposting and ill informed Anons taking it seriously, always test before buying and go with what you like. Imho DT990 are not bad, not my favorite but i can understand why someone would enjoy it, about your gear, unless you are listening to music with some serious dynamics (like some classical stuff) i'd say you are fine straight from the computer, also hearing noises like hissing and distortion might indicate you need a DAC, otherwise, have fun, maybe in the future you will want an amp and a dac to hear how it sounds and will be used enough to your headphones to tell if there's a difference.

As someone who has the 770 (for office use), the 880 and the 990 I can safely say that, at least to me, the 880s are by far the best of the three.

The DT770 has excellent isolation, I can't hear jackshit when I'm at the office and no sound leaks. They sound good and their excellent at what they do. They're recording headphones, after all.

The 880s are some of the best headphones I have ever listened to and have - hands down - the best bass I have ever heard in my life. The bass is extremely precise, fast, dry and packs an enormous punch. The way it is meant to be. If you listen to nigger music then you will find it lacks volume, if you listen to real music, e.g. Marcus Miller's (inb4 nigger) Free album you will know what I mean.

The 990s on the other hand... The only thing I enjoy them for is watching movies. They are, in every aspect, inferior to the 880s (again, if you like nigger bass they may or may not be good for you) and they leak even more sound.

I suppose there's a reason why the 880 is considerably more expensive than the 990.

If you go beyer, either buy the 770 if you need isolation or do it right and go for the 880. Don't fall for the impedance memay either and buy the pro version. It has tighter clamp and costs less.

Fair enough, sadly right now adding an amp on top of the headphones would be too much money

Here's the he-400i in a direct comparison. Notice the smoother midrange and lack of treble roll-off.

No Amazon in my country, cheapest I can get them is like $240.

no?

That's pretty flat.

HD600 is more neutral here. I should add that a tripcode advocating for a cause hurts said cause.

Why am I not surprised.

If I cut some of the sideslats off of my DT990, will they start sounding better?

MMCX is standard connector type normally used in RF. Is very popular for use with in-ears, not normally full size headphones. Finding a cable with the connector will be easy.
>>
>>61507652
Well shit. In that case, I'd make sure the shipping won't jack up the price a bunch, and even then, I might be willing to spend a bit more to buy from somewhere more reputable for peace of mind.
>>
>>61507745
It may reduce the bass response. That's probably a bad idea with already super bright headphones. A better idea would be getting headphones that aren't shit like HD600.
>>
>>61507824
Shipping will only be like $20 so I guess I should just pull the trigger?

The only thing that can make those shitcans sound better is gratuitous amounts of equalization.

Hifiman's store on their site also has it $150 (I know the Taobao ones are also direct from Hifiman anyway too), so whichever way has cheaper shipping, I'd say go for it.

Not the anon you replied to but when Z reviews says that something is boring, then it's most of the time that the headphones aren't flat enough to be "professional" listening headphones, while it's not colorful/enjoyable enough to be the kind of headphones you just listen to because it's fun.
Although you already probably knew that.
It's all his opinion though, no such thing as objective review of headphones since people can have different tastes, some people likes stax and some likes other inferior products.
Jk but seriously best you have is go to some big audio centre and not buy a pair from the Internet because someone else said they're good. Better to be able to test shit before you buy it, my first normal headphones were fucking ferrari headphones, the smell of the box was more enjoyable than those shit headphones.
