I would suggest a 2015 or 2016 Macbook Pro. Has all the important specs, maybe even an actual HDMI port, no lame strip, and pre-Sierra.

Thanks for all the responses. I mainly use it for remote administration and some light dev work associated with my job. Anything better then the air I currently have is overkill but the display on the pro is just incredible.
I almost picked it up yesterday but got sticker shock. All the windows machines were 1/2 the price but the build quality isn't the same.

If OP is considering buying a Mac in the first place, it's because of the OS, which I assume includes running popular proprietary programs. A GNU/Linux distro almost certainly won't be acceptable. Maybe Windows could however.

I bought a Macbook Air and withim 3 months I jizzed on it and the hard drive died. I took it to the apple store and they told me it would cost 750 to fix. I told them to fuck off and bought a 200$ netbook, which has been more than happy to accept my bukake. Moral of the story: $2,000 is too much for a laptop that might just break at any time.

Its still great and except that I bloated it like fuck with tons of softwares the battery wears off too easily, I'm very satisfied.
