To get back to OPs question, afaik routers don't store data except metadata, but that crap already gets stored multiple times as your packets hop around the net. In my country ISPs are obliged to keep meta for 6 months.
What really bothers me is that they can imprison you simply because they have a file that they say you did something. To me that's insane. It's also illegal since such proof can never be "beyond reasonable doubt".
