I want one of those new model F keyboards, but the lack of macros is turning me off.
>>
>>61441763
Just slap an xwhatsit in it or an old model. Actually, don't those new ones already use that?

xwhatsit capsense utility 9.0 lets you set as many Macros as you want.
>>
>>61439862
I just picked up a new full set of pic related
Problem is I have 0 boards for it to go on.

Need my first board:
>Budget
Preferably less than $100 but limit $120ish
>switches
MX is a must prefer cherry reds or blues
>OS
macOS (free work computer)
>layout
60-70% preferred (split space would be clutch)
>ISO vs w/E
No preference as I got a full set of >terminal
>Endgame board
Clueboard with all the splitting

Was thinking of a fc660m
>>
>>61442184
Tada68 since it comes with a bazillion switch options
>>
>>61442184

If you end up choosing the FC660M, it'll be a great choice, but if you already wasted over $100 on caps, why just grab the Clueboard and never have to upgrade ever again?
>>
>>61439885

How is it without the feet? Isn't it too flat and uncomfortable to use?
>>
>>61442380
Because I'd have to wait a couple of months and I have no soldering iron at home :///
>>
>>61442335

Only gateron

I'm getting this board for work

My Industrial Model M is dead. I don't like how the beige Model Ms look.

What keyboard can I buy that doesn't look like shit? All the keyboards I see are either edgy gaymer keyboards with LEDs. The ones that are lightly colored always have logos plastered all over them.

Also why do so many keyboards have a shitty typeface for the keys?
>>
>>61445587
what's wrong with your industrial?
>>
>>61445594
I accidentally spilled water on it a few years ago when it wasn't being used. There is a mineral buildup probably since we have hard water. It keeps pressing the Alt key or doing other strange things.

>>
>>61445587
if you really like your Model M, you can get replacement parts from clickykeyboards or unicomp, but you'll have to do a bolt mod.
>>
>>61445667
I'm not modding a genuine Industrial Model M, even if it doesn't work.

The most I'd do is swap the case on my normal Model M.

>>61445634
I can't seem to find any places I buy from that sell them.

>>61445618
They don't have the black and metal IBM logo like the real ones do. The blue and grey look like shit with the Industrial colors. I don't understand how that combination came about.

What's the recommended wrist rest for a 60%? I'd read a couple bad reviews on the grifiti's quality control but that could just be certain users eating doritos at their computer non stop. Are the glorious ones worth twice the price? Any I may have missed that are worthwhile.
>>
>>61445966
forget about it, either use it with the stock keycaps as a decent budget board or get a cheaper keyboard and replace the full set of keys. also they kinda dropped the ball by using OEM profile instead of cherry profile but i guess they didn't want to make their other keyboards unsellable to normies by marketing cherry profile as superior
>>
>>61447420
Get better posture instead, wrist rests are A meme. Or at least go for the ultimate meme and just use a folded dish/hand towel so you can actually wash it when you do your biannual trip to the laundromat.
>>
>>61447491
Posture is fine and I'm sincerely unsure if there's a laundromat anywhere near me... I thought that was something that died out in the 80's or 90's.
>>
>>61447420
wrist rests aren't good for you. Either get a better chair, or do what that other anon said and use a towel of your choice
>>
I bought this set of caps the other day:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mechanical-keyboard-pbt-keyboarded-a-large-black-keyboard-keyboarded/32740037614.html

Few days later I get a message saying that they're not in stock and he'd give the same price for another color. I said I'm set on the black ones and asked when they'd be in stock. He said:

>Hi,will not in stock.I am so sorry

Yet they're still for sale and even 10% off now. What gives? These are the only double shot pbt white on black keys I could find on ali. Any suggestions for another source that isn't super expensive?

Ok, so whats the verdict on these "Kishsaver" boards?
Is it literally just new model F with a modern layout and usb, or are they built with better parts and allow you to program them and shit?
Because from what I'm seeing is its just a smaller model F in black for more money.
Don't get me wrong, I would like to have one. But fuck that price and commitment.

>>

>>61447911
that's odd. if you went with kit 1 you would think they could just send one of the other kits without the colored keycaps if they have any of them in stock.

if you're ok with the rainbow set, you could ask if they can send one of those instead, but of course if you want the white on black you should try to clarify what they mean if they'll never come back in stock or if they mean you can pick a different kit or what

4704 Keyboards 2.jpg

>>61448609
The banking terminal 4704 model Fs were made entirely of metal unlike the plastics of the normal one. I wish he'd clone the full size 4704 tho. But those keyboards are better built then the original and are more of a reproduction of the classic style so they have the same layout. The small 4704 model Fs are much rarer and sell for $1000+ so this is for those who want something of better quality in a more modern package like the slimmer bezel. Besides adjusting for inflation the normal model F cost $990 back then, and the kishy ones costed a lot more
>>
>>61448609
They are fully programmable. They have a custom board in them that was designed to retrofit vintage model f keyboards.
>>
So, I got my Magicforce a day early and I have to say I don't think I could go back to Blue switches after switching to browns. They feel perfect.

Oh, and about the stock thing. I asked when they'll be in stock again and he says:

Is there a way to show the actual caps/num/scroll-lock status ON the key instead of the top indicator lights? Ie. enabling caps lights up the key, disabling it turns it off? Seems like a standard thing to want to do, but I can't find anything like it in the stupid config app.

Anyone recommend a TKL wrist rest for the cheap? Like <$10? Preferably cloth topped if possible.
Wrist rests seem to cost more than the full-sized counterparts though just being the same thing, but smaller. And seeing a lot of those wooden wrist rests go for as much as they do for being just a literal block of wood with a finish baffles me.

Also anyone recommend any keycaps with a stepped capslock key? I can't seem to find those anywhere, I'm starting to consider cannibalizing some caps from other keyboards.

You're probably not using file-managers like Midnight Commander or other software (mostly CLI) that rely heavily on the function keys.

I couldn't live without the numeric pad either.

I get why lamers / gamers want 65% keyboards but to me it just seems retareded. I guess I could have one without the numpad if I had a separate numpad on the other side of the mouse but that seems a bit silly compared to just using a real keyboard.

Why don't more manufacturers use a floating key design with switches exposed at the sides. Seems easier to clean one you get the caps off.

Those prices at kbdfans are kind of ridiculous, they sure know how to take advantage of being the only game in town (there are others, but kbdfans is basically the biggest).

$99.00 for ABS, not even PBT, keycaps? There's plenty of good keyboards with MX switches and a full set of ABS keycaps available for less than that.

On a completely different topic, my Ducky Shine 5 arrived. I'm honestly find the rather ugly font on the ABS keycaps that came with it disappointing. I guess I should have checked more closely before ordering it.. but it kind of looked better on the pictures.
>>
>>61455274
Actually those prices are reasonable since before it used to cost $180 for a set like that. Prices have gone down now that max key has bought SP's old SA molds, and will continue to do so when more and more people enter the game. Its just that molds are expensive to produce. You can get it cheaper if you order from maxkey directly since KBD fans is just a re-seller, but I hope you understand chinese. Also MAXkey sets can be found on aliexpress, taobao, keyclack, and originative
>>
>>61455358
Of course it's not reasonable to charge as much for just keycaps as a keyboard with keycaps retails for. Why they want that much is their problem and it changes nothing.

To me it doesn't matter that much what they charge, though, buying a keyboard is pretty much the only way to get ISO keys anyway.

even though they are ABS, you can't compare them to normal cheapo keycaps. compare them to the ones SP make (or don't make, because all their production capacity has already been booked). no one is forcing you to buy them.
>>
>>61455440
You really have no idea how expensive double shot molds are do you? Its 3,000-10,000 per key since each one needs its own unique mold. Not only that PBT is very brittle and will easily break during the process, so to keep costs down ABS is used instead. It took ducky three years to develop their double shot PBT keycaps. Only two others (Tai-hao and vortex) make double shot PBT, and Ducky's implementation still has issues. High quality stuff is expensive to make, but obviously you're just a dumb yuropoor so stick to whatever OEM shit you use.

Is it possible to find a japanese-style bottom row (and optionally japanese uniform stagger) but no arrow keys?

My main gripe with an HHKB would be the wasted potential for modifiers, which are instead replaced by a huge spacebar for no reason, and empty space for even less reason. This would severely limit my layer autism. Meanwhile, most jap layouts come in a tkl-type format, thus eliminating the main need for meme layers since stuff like the arrow and navigation keys are right there.

tl;dr below
I posted about a week ago that I bought one of these (pic related) and I've been pressing these keys since. Tacticle and clicky are my jam, fuck linear.

I think I've decided that I like cmx greens and cmx tactile greys. My only wish is for a key with an even more tacticle response than cmx tacticle greys and a higher resistance than cmx greens. Gateron greens seem the way to go, but the curve graph on input(dot)club's website doesn't show much (if any) of a maximum resistance (input force required to activate) higher than CMX greens.

Is there a tactile or clicky switch that requires higher force-input than gateron greens that isn't linear?

All I know is I'm probably the only guy in this thread that typed on tactile grays every day for a whole year. You really don't want heavier than that.

Grab some buckling springs for the click. The grays are what I got to have something kinda quiet with a similar feel. They're not heavier but they are more satisfying.

IBM doesn't make them anymore. You'd have to buy them from unicomp. There is a version with a slimmer, lighter case, but I like it with the big fat original one. You can order them on amazon or get a custom one from unicomp's website

Unicomp makes new Model M's pretty cheap, and there's a Model F reproduction project that's pretty cool going on right now that should have stuff delivered in a couple months.

All these posts about buying switch testers make me wonder: Don't you people have brick-and-mortar mech keyboard stores in your local areas?

I live in a damn third-world country, and in my city there are like 6-7 stores where I can just stop by to test news imported arrivals.

I seriously cannot fathom getting into this hobby without trying out a bunch of keyboards first before buying.
>>
>>61471508
That's Asia, in English-speaking countries brick and mortar specialty stores are rare in general. So all we have is trying out Razer, Logitech or Corsair at our local general electronics stores.

Looks pretty weird toqh.
Nice job on picking the colors though. Seriously retro.
>>
>>61471536
Specialty stores are rare?
Even in shopping malls?
God, that honestly sounds... boring.

>>61463947
I always heard Outemu browns were shit, I might have to buy a cheap 30$ keyboard I was looking at with them
>>
>>61471578
It is. Shopping malls are generally nearly 20 different clothing stores, about half a dozen health and beauty stores (massage parlours, hairdressers, etc), maybe 2 or 3 general electronics and/or media stores, a couple department stores and a supermarket.
>>
>>61471578

My mall has 2 kid toy stores, rest of them are clothing stores and starbucks.
>>
>>61468287
Well no shit then, I don't wear socks either when it's +20 around here.

Different people, different priorities man.
I for one will never ever get a HHKB because I'm already used to having 4 modifier keys (the usual 3 plus Capslock remapped into the Hyper key). Losing one would break my daily workflow.

Given the fact that they can't even read a datasheet in order to get stabilizer placement to the standard, I wouldn't be surprised if they're keycaps have some slightly off measurements too.
>>
>>61471578
They aren't that guy is a retard. Here in north america we have microcenter, tiger direct, and ncix. They carry all sorts of keyboards, and you can even make requests.
>>

lol

>english speaking countries
Yeah it pretty much is. If you want to include the UK I know the keyboard company has a physical location, as well as as cooler master (but those are mostly just topre keyboards)
>>
>>61472821

Dude, there's barely even any stores with plenty of keyboards in the UK.

In Europe it's mostly media markets with logitech/trust/corsair/razer shit, and usually laid out with mostly red switches.

There's no microcenter equivalent here, and I've been to the one in paterson.
>>
>>61472842
Doesn't UK have micro direct? Its listed by Ducky as one of their resellers. Thats the only European country I've been through so I'm going of from memory

It's been bankrupt for years now.

Why do vendors keep selling plate-mount/3-pin switches when PCB-mount/5-pin are superior in every situation bar handwiring?

t-thanks, I did pay for expedited shipping cause it takes a month for shit to get here normally.

Bought it on ali through kbdfans, should I message him to ask if he can write the actual worth to be lower for taxes? I dunno if chinks are willing like that

Is mechanical keyboard good for typewriting/better than others? Never had one, recently started typewriting course and my keyboard is less than satisfying to put it mildly

Switch Testers give you an extremely accurate impression of what each switch is like on a switch tester; better to try even just a couple full keyboards and make an informed choice from there. Also, your penis is small, small.

How would this kit compare to an Anne Pro in terms of quality? I planning on getting an inexpensive PBT keyset with it from the same seller.

Got this bad boy for 3 years already, mx reds.

Now I am looking to replace the cable with something sleeved (or maybe do it myself? dunno), the keycaps and while disassembled give it a proper cleaning.

I spilled coke once on the board and the area under the keycaps is pretty nasty, can't clean it using conventional methods so I figured using 99% isopropanol might clean the whole PCB.

Anyone got experience with this? And any good recommendations for a white on black keycap set?
>>
after looking around on prices, this seems to be the best value for money where i live http://www.coolermaster.com/peripheral/keyboards/masterkeys-pro-s-white/
All the enthusiast brands dont get sold at local online stores where i live and would cost extra to import.

Anyone recommend the "Glorious Modular RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard" ?

Bleh, it has ABS keycaps though. The Pok3r gets you "proper" PBT.

Autohotkey like the other anon said, or you can buy this.

https://1upkeyboards.com/filco-pegasus-hoof-controller.html
>>
>>61484586
fair enough, wasd also has the vp3 you can get the pok3r without caps if you already have them or want to put the money towards a better/different set.

personally the 1 yr extra warranty and backlighting is worth more than buying a set of pbt keycaps(but i had some already to be fair)
>>
>>61484627
If the warranty is all that important why not buy a poker from ducky agents
