The cable still needs to go around into my backpack, its doable but really annoying to set up. You need to keep is tight enough so there isn't any extra hanging cable but loose enough so you can freely move your body.

Honestly the QC35 is a better option. The only flaws are it being too linear sounding and the optional botnet app. The app is only needed to update firmware and adjust the noise cancellation so once you update you can delete it.

I'm looking for custom IEMs but don't know where I should be looking.
Don't (think I) care if they're silicon, acrylic, or whatever.
1 or 2 drivers is good enough for me.

HD579 is the one to get these days.
Better than HD599, and cheaper.
>>
>>61428903
Audibly transparent solid state amps are more affordable and more reliable than audibly transparent tube amps. The only real reasons to buy a tube amp are if you subjectively enjoy the sound of even order harmonic distortion and can identify it reliably in a blind test and/or for driving rare super hard to drive electrostats. I cannot recommend tube amps to the average user.

Much more expensive, diminishing returns, the value vs price of 558 is much better

579 has near-identical, possibly better (less bass, more treble, more neutral), and significantly cheaper.
>>
>>61429324
The 598 can be found for a lot better prices sometimes, like how the 598SR was just going for $110 on Prime Day. I just saw that that 579 can be had for ~$100 for a "like new" one on Amazon, though. Not bad at all, but I'm not sure I'd prefer the FR of it.

It's not hard to find reviews of HD599; It's generally considered better. I prefer HD598, said no one ever.
HD579's reviews are harder to come by, but the general opinion is that it's a HD599 without some flaw on strong bass overtaking everything else. The FR shows them as virtually identical, and the HD579 is way cheaper, making it very appealing as a candidate.

Yeah, the bass thing is stupid. They actually sound pretty decent with it turned off though, pretty comparable to my V6s if you account for bluetooth losses.

At that price point Grado SR80e or MDR-V6 are good options.
SR80e are more 'musical' especially if you like the distinct punchy, warm coloured sound with forward mids. Grados are a very subjective taste dependant headphone, great for rock.
MDR-V6 are closed, less coloured than the SR-80's, analytical, bright, detailed and have tight bass but are a bit recessed in the lower mids.
Both are easy enough to drive without an amp.
>>
>>61432963
That post is BS. It literally quotes schiit and then interprets it the opposite way.

It does so right from the very start, see:

>Schiit says: While there is no inherent phase shift within Parks-McClellan filters (note: as in most sigma-delta DACs), there is no optimization of phase either.
>proceeds to interpret as if schiit said their hw FUCKS WITH THE PHASE or does ANYTHING particular to it.

There's no need to even read the rest of the post, it's full of shit.

>>61432674
No.
There are definite advantages to a multibit converter, even for audio use, but most people who ask have have an incorrect idea of what a multibit converter is. Schiit does not mention any of the real advantages that a multibit converter has over the single bit types.

>>61432963
DC signals and general stability, at least with any sort of 1-bit delta sigma design. Far less sensitive to clock error, and simpler reconstruction filtering required. These reasons and others are far abstracted from the listener. Delta sigma converters are not restricted to one bit either; there are probably more multibit ΔΣ converters these days than otherwise.

As an aside, ilkless knows little about signals. He is more interested in psychoacoustics.
>>
>>61436977
>advantages
That are inaudible and multibit introduces other problems that cause it to measure worse than delta sigma.
>>
>>61436999
Multibit and delta sigma are not mutually exclusive. Why would you think that?
If it helps, you can just think of delta sigma as noise shaping and oversampling converters, and the "multibit" converters as working fine at Nyquist rate.

The usual error involved with variations of ladder converters are matching errors and glitching. Transition to many-bit sign-magnitude and segmented string-ladder converters are intended to soften low level linearity errors, but still tend to greater spurs than the few-bit (ΔΣ) converters which can more easily compensate for matching errors.

If you want to shut down useless electronics chatter with psychoacoustics, the audibility concern is valid. Electronics design in general is not interesting as far audibility is concerned anyway.
>>
>>61437408
>arguing semantics
Schiit makes the same distinction that I do. Let's not do this.

Either way, prove that the multibit mode measures better than a comparable delta sigma dac. Theory doesn't matter if the end result isn't any better.

I have the impression that you have misinterpreted my words or simply do not understand.

The "theory" would suggest advantages a segmented converter (what Schiit uses) could possibly offer is with jitter susceptibility and processing cost, whereas a one (or few) bit ΔΣ would work better if computation were inexpensive and if matching parts were more difficult than creating a high stability clock source. That the latter is true is what made D-S converters dominate since the late 1980's.

I offer no defense of Modi Multibit because it is underperforming and overpriced, if the baseline is a common smartphone.
It performs like it was made back when designing a audio DAC that could offer 16 effective bits was a serious challenge, but with today's technology. Bad engineering, in short.

I don't think they did so just for the sake of presentation, they could have just as well put an iridium wires inside and a glowing crystal or something for presentation, altho it would probably not have same effect as tubes but it's a fucking 50k headphone so only rich arabs would get it, not even your most rabid audiophile so they wouldn't care to put whatever as long as they thought it's worth the performance.

>present certain trade-offs
In this day and age, the performance trade off is how many bits should your delta sigma converter have, 1 bit or more. The R-2R derived converters used in the Schiit and other DACs are the fringe loony players. Of course, they all still work if you assume good design, the R-2R would only be many times more expensive to implement for good enough performance.

Schiit doesn't really delve into the multibit mess themselves, and focuses more on the filters and coefficient calculation. It is just marketing copy and not a technical disclosure of the device, but it is pretty lousy to read.

>Multiple Speakers in a Room
>Dolby® Headphone uses powerful digital signal processing (DSP) technology to create the sensation of multiple loudspeakers in a room. The effect is closer to home theater sound than traditional headphone audio.

>Listen for Longer
>By creating the sensation that you're surrounded by sound, Dolby Volume makes it easier to listen in comfort for extended periods of time. The listener fatigue you often get with headphones disappears.

Sign magnitude rocks. I pity you poor fucks who are stuck with ∆Σ converters.
>>
>>61450065
also, dolby headphone doesn't seem to really make the bass louder, but it makes it feel as if there is a subwoofer in front of me and not just in my head, so it seems to improve the soundstage immensely

what are some cheap noise cancelling headphones/earphones? do these also reduce noise even when not listening to anything?

i think i'm going to use dolby headphone with the "reference room" (smallest room) setting, doesn't distort the sound much, and a neutral equalizer
>>

but the default with a neutral equalizer doesn't sound very good, there is hardly any bass at all unless i turn the volume up to tinnitus-inducing levels

R-2R? Man. I had one of those plugged into my printer port.

>>61450357
Corrective EQ literally did nothing wrong, ever, but all that 3D audio crap should probably stay off.

>>61450343
Something tells me you won't use them for critical listening or recording, so why not.
>>
>>61450415
nah this doesn't make sense, you're ok with distorting the sound a lot by raising/lowering the volume of certain frequencies, but you're not ok with distorting the sound very slightly to widen the sound stage without altering volumes and while making it less fatiguing to listen to
>>
>>61450415
yeah ill mainly use them for gaming (rainbow 6 siege) and listening to music (mainly classical)

>>61450399
did a little research online and people have said it should cost more than it is for the quality of sound it produces but what do i know
>>
>>61450065
yamaha eph-100 are already considered to be a bit bassy and look at what equalizer i would otherwise use, but with dolby headphone i can use a completely flat equalizer
>>
>>61450464
Yeah with that they probably mean $50 which still isn't a lot. But try them out, see how they are.
>>
>>61450343
They're good closed headphones for the price.. They're very uncomfortable though.

Earpads are pure shit. If you care about comfort you're gonna have to get new pads.

Also if you don't care about the color you could have gotten the Teac CT-H02 (clone of the Tascam) for slightly cheaper.
>>
ITALYanon, 50$ budget, i had sennheiser HD 202 ii but they worn out and they are now uncomfortable. Are the Superlux HD681 EVO a good replacement or i will KMS after i hear them?
TY guys
>>
>>61450692
any recommendations on ear pads?
>>
ok fine, i might just need to get used to the "flat" sound (no dolby headphone, no/minimal equalizer)
>>
>>61450726
>681 EVO
Bass. Just bass. 662 EVO's better.
>>
>>61450726
HD 681 (red ring) with these velour pads is good. The stock pads it comes with are crap.

I do not recommend the EVO. If you are lazy and do not mind lesser quality, get the Samson SR850.
>>
>>61450787
I can find no reviews on them. Have you tried them?
>>61450907
Yeah, the evo have also tissue pads. Why not them?
Are those hp confortable? Any other brand instead of superlux?

The pads on the EVO aren't the problem. It's overly bassy. The original 681 is lacking in bass in comparison, however other than that the sound is quite good for the price, and they are very open. Could benefit from a bit of EQ for that peak in the treble range.

>Are those hp confortable?
With the velour pads they should be decently comfortable. Stock pads, no.

>Any other brand instead of superlux?
Not really, unless you want to increase your budget.
>>
>>61450747
I'd recommend sony 950 pads, lyx pro has 30 pads, or brainwavz pads

I own offbrand 950 pads + offbrand brainwavz angled pads. Recently got the Lyx pro pads and they're great as well.

The 950 pads I own are most likely a little less thick than the oem pads while the offbrand pads of the brainwavz are just as good.

Not sure if they would change the audio quality for the better or worse but these pads tend to very comfortable.

Thanks for your rec. So I tried the DT770s today. I did find the bass that I was looking for, but the high frequencies were too loud. I was able to control them somewhat by using a bit of EQ. That won't help the slightly recessed mids, however.

I tried out ATH-M50x which were nearby. I found that they sounded more "colorful", had more mids, and the highs were more controlled. The overall sound was smeary at times though, just like everyone says. Frequencies leaking out into each other.

After researching a bit, I found out about Custom Studio Pros but they don't seem to sell them here in Japan, nor in 32 ohms. Might take a crack at Custom One Pro Plus, but I can only try them at Akiba. What do?
