It's linux without the customization.

It's linux without having to tinker with shit to make it work.

A lot of people want the second one, the first they can deal with.

That's Demis Hassabis you retard, leading AI researcher at DeepMind. Another episode of /g/ anons exercising their god complex while simultaneously accomplishing nothing noteworthy of their own.

Hard to say really, one could argue it helped further *nix in general because of the BSD subsystem driving *nix compatible software creation, but it's also possible that many developers (myself included) use macOS instead of Linux because it's *nix-like but perceived as being more polished.
>>
>>61423643
We need to get more normie hipsters on mint or ubuntu then, best of both worlds and they can still act smug and superior
>>

>perceived
It is more polished. There isn't a single operating system where the track pad works as well as it does on macs.

The OS is also more power efficient than Linux.

But many of the problems with Linux are problems with the community itself. Not only is there an unwarranted culture of elitism, but every part of the Linux world is so fractured supporting and developing on it can be a real pain. I've maintained Linux servers before and written software for them, it's a surprisingly performant kernel that really does a lot of things well, but supporting anything that's not RH, Ubunut or SUSE is an absolute nightmare.

>>61423797
I say perceived because one could argue it is subjective, I personally think it's a much better development platform, but others feel differently. There is no arguing XNU is the most advanced piece of kernel engineering in common use today though.

No games.
That's why linux isn't used on desktop.

>muh wine
it's shit, no windows babby wants to waste time configuring a linux os to install wine and configuring wine which doesn't even support games released during last year, when windows can run them and the newest shit natively with no additional requirements.
