I second protonmail as an alternative. They're great, and their new VPN service is top notch. I haven't signed into gmail in ages since I switched. As far as drive, I would say use dropbox for stuff that you aren't concerned about privacy-wise, and a flash drive for photos and personal docs.

I also recently ditched my android and got a basic dumb phone for call/text only, and have switched to using nothing but librebooted thinkpads for my computing needs.
