Assuming there is no bootloader password, you should be able to hit the super key and s while the machine is booting up to be taken to single user mode. This should give you access to a Bash shell that is logged in as root. I assume you will know what to do from here.

It's really fucking easy. Reboot into recovery mode (boot while holding command+R), click the Disk Utility option, then open the terminal. Run resetpassword, select the volume containing the account you want to reset the password, select the account, and type the new password twice. This should reset the main password (but not the keychain password, so you won't be able to get into any online accounts).
