Axon 7 vs LG V20:

Axon:
>Capacitive buttons that don't take up the screen
>5.5"
>Loud front stereo speakers
>Nice loud amp with AK4490 DAC
Axon 8 may be coming out soon and may be better

LG V20:
>Removable battery
>IR Blaster
>Gimmicky 2nd screen but can be useful
>Nice and loud, has to detect high Ohm headphones to get there, but has ES9218 "Quad" DAC
>5.7"
>AMAZING camera and microphones
LG V30 will suck

Both are 2k, Snap 820, microSD, LineageOS support, and $400.
And I can't fucking decide. V20 clearly looks better on paper but the Axon 7 is sleek and sexy.
Help me...

I love my v20 and would recommend it to anyone desu
>>
>>61414189
Some questions about your V20:
What do you use the second screen for?
Does the LG double-tap lock, accidentally lock your screen when double tapping in apps?
How long have you had it?
Does it bother you that the Hi-Fi DAC doesn't turn on if you low impedance equipment?
>>
>>61414302
>secondary screen
Spotify and quick access to flashlight and the remote for the ir blaster. It also shows recent apps but I'm not totally used to that yet
>double tap
I think the double tap lock is only on the home screen, not tapping anything anywhere at any time.
>how long
I got it June 24th.
>dac
You can turn it on manually and it'll turn on whenever you plug in any set of earphones.
>>
>>61414368
Pretty sure the DAC auto adjusts even when you turn on Hi-Fi mode.

How is the battery life?
Does the LG software look ugly?
And what version are you running, because I'm pretty sure they are never going to update that phone again.
>>

>>
>>61414411
Battery life is very good, I get home with about 50% after an 8 hour shift using Bluetooth for half of it.
I think the software looks fine, but I only have an old galaxy s2 to compare to for other Android interfaces and it's much better.
It's currently on Android 7.0, I don't know if it'll ever get an update.
>>
>>61414522
They said they ended support for it already.

What are some glaring flaws or things you don't like? For me I can't stand the on-screen buttons wasting space, and that there's no side power button.
>>
>>61414575
The side volume buttons taking getting used to again because I had a G3 for so long and got extremely used to the intuitive buttons on the back of it. They're hard to find by feel through clothes.
Sometimes the auto brightness doesn't realize I'm in a dark room, it keeps the screen bright as hell based on how bright the light from the screen is reflecting off my face.
The default LG keyboard was kinda rubbish and deletes entire paragraphs in a split second but that was solved with a different keyboard app

I haven't really had it that long yet, it doesn't have very many flaws to me aside from the volume buttons being small. Also, the camera is fucking excellent.
>>
so far it's pretty comfy. came from an S4

my only complaint is how insanely strong the vibration motor is. I had to turn it off for typing. maybe I was just used to my fizzling S4 but holy shit

Other V20 user here.
>second screen

the DAC is manual and works on everything

>glaring flaws
The Sprint and Verizon ones are locked down so no root or LineageOS for me. The SIM card is kind of hard to remove. I don't like LG's white on black UI.
>on screen buttons
They aren't that bad, honestly. The screen is pretty big so I never feel like there's wasted space.
>side power
Yeah it takes some getting used to. I never have to click the power button though since just putting my finger on the fingerprint reader turns the phone on and unlocks it.

Been getting into emulation on my phone lately and I think ppsspp is using the little cores on my phone.

In fact, the big cores barely get used at all. Is there any work around for this? Phone is a Zuk Z2 Pro running Resurrection Remix 5.8.3
>>
>>61413600
I had a G3 and a G4, a friend of mine a V10.
All of them suffered of bootloop. All of them overheated. All of them had shitty battery life. The G3 overheated so much that the GPU died and I had the whole motherboard replaced. G3's first battery died and took the MicroSD with it; the second one swollen at the point that is destroyed the digitizer on the top and in the middle.
LG, never again.

That's why it's not recommended. It's basically an iPhone without most of the benefits of buying an iPhone. If you're going to buy Android there's better and cheaper options.
>>
>>61418317
I mean your fucking data. All those photos you've taken, music, videos. Your files.

It's so much better to just put your SD card in your new phone and continue where you just left off without worrying about data loss if your phone decides to fail on you.

>>
>>61418350
There's the mi6 as well, or the Meizu Pro 6 Plus.
For example.

Both cheaper and better value "budget flagships" than the 1+5.

I haven't considered any 1+ devices since the 1+1, they just keep jacking the price up with each new release. I'd rather get a Meizu or a Samsung S7 edge.
>>
Its been years since I've even considered buying a Oneplus product. I did get to use the Oneplus X and remembered the USB transfer to be horrifyingly slow. They cut corners on every part that reviewers don't normally look at and cheated on benchmarks. Couldn't pull of MIRACAST without dying. Now at over twice the price for a phone that still doesn't fit my needs, the Oneplus 5 is not a phone that I would ever seriously consider.

It's a phone where if you drop at least $100 more you're going to get something with far better everything compared to the Oneplus5. There's really no reason to pick it when there's so many good alternatives to it nowadays.
>>
>>61418065

>>
>>61418350

At that price the OnePlus just doesn't stand up as well against competition. When it comes to aggressive pricing Zuk seems to be doing really well with their Z2 being the cheapest phone with flagship specs.

Give them a few years and they'll be pricing themselves against Google or Samsung at this rate...
>>
>>61418451
>>Same price as other flagships
It's still relatively cheaper than flagships. Mi 6 is about the same or more and don't compare it to older chinks. You could also go G6 for a while before it bootloops
>no headphone jack

I don't know how they did that but on 4chan on Firefox I'm only getting barely noticeable stretches on later elements like images when I scroll upwards very slowly and then abruptly change direction with high scrolling speed only to go very slowly after a few centimeters. And even then it's barely noticeable. I really don't understand how they got this crazy effect in the video. So no, I don't consider it to be the big problem everyone seems to have with it. It's not rape-shed slippery, but it's not exactly an easy grip either. I newly tried out the s8 and it was slippery as a motherfucker. You needed a titan grip to keep that thing in your hand.

What happened to the days where these producers would put a nice exclusive pattern on the backs of their phones to make them easier to hold? It angers me.

Alright.

Pros:
>runs very well considering that it's a slightly older model, games, 3D applications, ect
>easily rooted and has a lot of cool rom options
>the screen is fucking fantastic
>replaceable battery
>you can fire a memory stick in that bitch to expand it as much as you want
>good speakers that aren't place in awful positions
>long lasting, like I said, mine's 3 years old and runs as fast as the day I got it
>can take a beating, I drop mine almost every day - I'm clumsy

Cons:
>standard auto-brightness is a little on the bright side, get an app for this if you want more precision control
>stock rom is ooold, I advice getting a custom
>standard battery life i mediocre, a day tops - get a custom one like I did, mine now almost pushes a week
>S Pen is still a meaningless meme that you'll never use

I could answer questions if you have any?

Here's my review of the Motorola G4 Play.

>payed 133 Euros for it.
>first impressions: way thinner and lighter than my chinashit phone (Vodafone Smart 4 Turbo)
>battery is 2800mAh and half the size and weight of the 1800mAh chinashit phone
>minimal bloatware was installed (all the Google crap but nothing else)
>two sim functionality is nice (use one shitty sim to sign up for shit on the internet)
>camera is WAY BETTER than my chinashit phone (it's why I paid those extra 20 Euros)

Only bad things:
1. system upgrade notifications galore at the moment; all taking forever
2. it didn't come with a pair of cheap headphones which I count as a negative cause you can never have too many pairs of cheap headphones

otherwise very meh experience; which is good

I'm not the one that brought the iphone user's demographics, so take your issue up with the anon i was replying to. he thinks the iphone is only meaningful to americans and chinese, which is clear bullshit and i was only proving him wrong.

my next phone will be between the note 8 and the iphone 8. i've been using the note 4 for 3 years and it's served me well, but the battery sucks, there's bloat and is very laggy.

the iphone has consistently shown to be a pleasurable experience for the user, which is why it's so popular. not to mention good battery and is almost never laggy. if i were to upgrade to the note 8 in august, i know i'm eventually going to have to deal with battery issues and a gradual decrease in performance over the years. i know that at least the iphone will not have these issues.

>>61421300

V20 user whose run both stock and AOSP
>second screen
Kinda useless. The only good things about it is it'll switch the statusbar to it when fullscreen apps run so you'll get an extra bit of screen thanks to that. The signature slide looks nice, but really only use it for flashlight app, which is rare
>double tap lock
That works anywhere theres an empty space on your homescreen or status bar, like stated before
>how long have I had it
Since last year, September
>DAC
Works great, never had a problem with it, both on stock and custom rom, though custom rom has no toggle to switch it off, on all the time
>battery
I usually keep it connected to my Gear S2 for a full shift at work and come home with around 50%, and thats with texting, snapchat, and internet
>LG software
Ugly. But there are themes on the LG World app, and on the Play Store. Some are actually even decent
>version
7.0, though obviously AOSP will run on 7.1
>glaring flaws
Appparently no root on the new ones. No idea if theres a way around that. Camera glass is fragile, from what I've heard. Never broken it, but its scratched up a bit, which has never happened with any other camera on a phone before. LG software can be sluggish, though if you can find a V20 secondhand thats still rootable, AOSP is smooth as fuck
>On Screen buttons
Not terrible. nothing much else to say
>side power
I personally like the power button being on the back. Feels more natural and like stated before, with fingerprint unlock, its fluid to use

Software updates have locked the bootloader down. Dunno if they've unlocked it since I last heard, which was a long ass time ago, I don't pay much attention to news other than updates to my ROMs. AOSP messes up the second screen. Since there is no "second screen" feature in AOSP, it stretches the image of the primary screen over the second as well. Devs just disabled it, so all you have is the primary screen. Someone is working on reverse engineering the second screen and apparently they've gotten somewhere with it, but it probably won't be ready anytime soon. The cameras work just like stock, both normal, front and wide angle. Though only a few camera apps, the stock aosp one included work with the wide angle camera.

>Nokia's Lumia 1020, Windows Phone was still looking hopeful at the time.
I'm still content with my Lumia 640. I understand its shortcomings; however, I really don't need a lot of power out of a smartphone. I hardly do anything with mine besides read e-mail, text, call, etc. I refuse to use social media, so I'm not even irked about the lack of Snapchat. If anything, that's a feature.
That being said--when is Microsoft going to finally call it quits in the mobile game? Seems like they must be hemorrhaging money at this point. People see me use my Lumia and proclaim that they've never actually SEEN a Windows Phone before. Surely they cannot continue to produce smartphones much longer.

QWERTY/ full keyboard HELP

So Im kind of an oldman when it comes to phones. I need a new one and I text a lot. I like my physical keyboard.

I'd like a smart phone. I know my options are limited. Sliders are low on choice. I know blackberry, but they're a bit pricey. Im trying to guage my options. I know attachments are possible too. Im willing to get a phone that is all touch and adding an attachment, that would be great. Im pretty much looking at droid, not iphone. Im in the US and sprint would be my carrier.

Why don't you wait and see. So far the Nokia 6 has been a very solid phone. Nothing to indicate that the 8 will be bad.
>>

Your best option is probably to wait and see what happens with the Keyboard Motomod.

>$120 retail

What the fuck costs so much to make this? Is it Lenovo's proprietary license for MotoMods? Something like this shouldn't cost more than $75-$80
The point of a modular phone is to get people to completely buy into the Ecosystem, charging these prices is pricing people completely out of your product in general, they're lucky the Moto Z Play and Z are good phones in general
>>
>>61426305
It's a niche product from a small start-up, so they dont benefit from economies of scale. If Lenovo themselves was making it they could charge way less.

Also, someone who really wants a slide out qwerty keyboard will buy it whether it's $80 or $120. It's not like there's many alternatives available.
>>
>>61426450
>Chinkphones
That's like saying that iPhones are chinkphones
>>
>>61425908

Moto Z isn't compatible with sprint, so that's not an option.
>>
>>61426429
If you want it to sell, whether you're the only name in the market or not, is to offer it at a price that will move units, otherwise your fucked because you still have to pay the factory, employees, marketing, etc etc
To price yourself out of your own market, which scuttles the market, is stupid
>>
What's the most performance-cost effective Xiaomi phone right now? I don't have much money but my mobile games are quite demanding, my current toaster can barely handle it.
>>
There's so much news about the Pixel XL 2, but do we know anything at all about the regular Pixel 2? I'm getting a bit tired of gigantic phones and kind of wanna go for something 5".

Is that one also going to be made by LG? I've never had an LG phone bootloop, though I've probably just never kept one long enough to see it happen, but I'm still really leery about it.
>>
>>61426878
As reference, my current phone is Zenfone 2 Laser.
>>
>>61426896
Mi5/s
>>
>>61426959
To expensive to be cos-effective. Redmi 4x or Redmi Note 4 Global are better in this aspect.
>>
>>61426742
>otherwise your fucked because you still have to pay the factory, employees, marketing, etc etc

You realise they need to make a profit to do that? Doesn't matter if they sell thousands of them if they lose money on every item sold.
>>
>>61426994
Obviously they have to price for profit, but you mean to think that board for a tactile keyboard and the MotoMods connection is that expensive to make? Fuck no it isn't, it's probably the licensing fee that takes a chunk out of the asking price because those boards don't cost a lot themselves
>>
>>61427035
>Fuck no it isn't
And you know this how?

>licensing fee
I really doubt there is a licencing fee, Lenovo is literally paying people to develop Moto Mods
>>
>>61426959

Is Mi5 this one? http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_5-6948.php
My budget is about $200, and if I stay being stingy until end of month, I can push another $50.
Should I grab the Pro version, or are other versions good enough?
>>
>>61427177
Have you ever taken apart a slide out keyboard phone? No? It's made with the same cheap shit they used for tactile wireless keyboard/remotes which cost about $15 off Amazon, they're not using some revolutionary new material, the only issue would be the proprietary connector for MotoMods
>>61427242
I'm actually going to have to agree with the other anon, get the Redmi Note 4 Global
>>
>>61427307
This one? http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_4-8531.php
How big is the difference between that and Zenfone 2 Laser?
To be honest, I don't mind spending extra bucks if my phone can stay usable for 2 years, hopefully more. That was my mistake, I bought my current phone just on August last year and it can barely run recently-released games now.
>>
>>61427396
The 625 is a good SoC and the Adreno 506 GPU is good as well
What games are you playing?
>>
Can you recommend me a phone between 200-250€? It goes for my sister so no orders from China because she wants warranty.
>>
>>61427422
Mostly 3D fighting games, with some parts of Live2D.
>>
>>61427307
Those $15 keyboards are simple and usually pretty low quality, with the Moto Mod you've got the connector, key backlights and especially the slide-out mechanism adding complexity and cost
>>
>>61427453
Not THAT much cost, not $120 cost
Maybe $20/unit cost, backlit keyboards don't cost as much as you think, and the slide out mechanism is plastic, why are you defending them?
>>
Is the OP5 any good? It looks great for the price but I've seen shit about jelly scrolling and a mediocre camera.

>>
>>61427307
>>61427453
Also once again you have to consider economies of scale, those cheap remotes are being made by some big Chinese company that probably sells hundreds of thousands of them. The Moto Mod won't sell anywhere near that amount, the potential market just isn't big enough (only a fraction of people own smartphones that support Moto Mods, only a fraction of those people would buy a slide-out keyboard)

>>61427506
>Not THAT much cost
>Maybe $20/unit cost
all you're doing is making assumptions and pulling numbers out of your ass and then claiming that's what something should cost.

The fact is, it's a niche product from a small start-up, that is relatively complex to manufacture. $120 is a reasonable price. Just compare it to other Moto Mods:
Hasselblad Camera $249
Insta-share projector $299
Speaker mod $79
Battery packs $59-79
