Libretto a shit compared to the 90's LifeBooks
>>61406675
How much mem? I recently paid big buxx for the oddball 16mb module. Also picked up 4gb flash + adapter. Still to put 'em in.

How well do they run a gnu-linux?
Since all the batteries are dead now, can the batteries be replaced?
How is the heating? Does it keep cool?
>>61406675
Would it be possible to gut this thing and put something like a Raspberry Pi into it and install Linux? My dad has one of these in the attic and I kind of wanna mod it.
>>61407550
They run a little warm, they're passively cooled, and they have no ventilation.
>>61407584
Don't. Those things are too rare and expensive to replace.

>Don't. Those things are too rare and expensive to replace.
So much this. It wouldn't really be worth the effort anyway since you could do that with pretty much any old laptop. A netbook form factor would be good for a Pi and you can get broken ones fairly cheap..
>>61407584
please don't my man
librettos were an ultra expensive and pretty niche, I've been hoarding old tech for about 8 years now and I've seen exactly two in my bi-weekly trips to all kinds of surplus shops and recyclers, they're a dying breed
would probably take more effort than it's worth anyway, the hardware in them is pretty cool and already plenty good enough for a lot of tasks, and you can always install a wireless card and work remotely with PuTTY and an X server for more computationally expensive stuff
don't think the form factor's that great for multimedia stuff anyway, the clitmice on the display panel are a pain to use for an extended time period

Consider fucking suicide now
Man I wish we would be stuck with 1990-1997 computing forever. Comfy as fuck and so A E S T H E T I C.
A real shame they put so much toxic flame retardants in the plastic back then though, or I'd love to collect vintage computer hardware.

What is this pussy ass n9xxer bullshit.

16mb Myself, Paid like $70

Its got a 144mhz Pentium MMX, why waste that on a shell for MS-DOS.
>>61406705
I have one of the Transmeta Lifebooks with the Trackpoint.
Really good little machine.
>>61409839
That's some hot shit right there, I've been waiting for a deal on one of those.
So does anyone in this thread actually own one?
Can anyone tell me how well it would run diablo or age of empires?
>>61412656
Bump
>>61407550
OP here, You could actually refurbish the battery yourself. The battery just pulls apart pretty easily and then you just swap out the bad cells with good ones (same voltage and specs of course) Haven't gotten around to it myself yet, Works just fine on the AC adapter
>>61410113
>Not using MS-DOS 2.0

I paid more for just the module -- probably about $80 shipped from Germany. The Libretto I actually bought new at CompUSA. Used it for years with FreeBSD and remote desktop.

Elaborate.
>>61413846
>not hooking up toggle switches to the CPU itself and using it like a portable Altair 8800

The stuff they put in plastic that makes it turn yellow as it gets old is pretty much liquid cancer.

>Some brominated flame retardants were identified as persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic to both humans and the environment and were suspected of causingneurobehavioral effectsandendocrine disruption.

Is it bad to have around if you don't touch it?
>>61414164
It's fine if you don't make a habit of licking your computers

Dont you fucking tell me what to do
